So was Athina, when she built the first flute in the “world”, but when she blew air into it and saw her face in the mirror of a pond so ugly, she threw it away. The shepherd Marsias found it and became the best whistle player, so good that he dared challenge Apollo in a contest. Apollo agreed to compete on the condition that the winner will hang the loser from a tree and skin him alive. Obviously the god of arts Apollo won. Poor Marsias. Never challenge God!
Clarke is still largely making their original whistles with the same construction Robert Clarke used 200 yrs ago. Still made from rolled tin sheet with a wood fipple block, so in that regard the craft never died. They’re not made by many other companies though, nor played by many serious players, because in regards to air efficiency and clarity of tone it’s simply an inferior design when compared to many modern whistles. With some modification you can get them to play ok, and a few people swear by them, but you won’t find many people recommending the Clarke original. They have another whistle that still has a rolled conical bore, but with a modern injection molded head called the sweetone. You’ll see that whistle recommended as a starter instrument quite often, and it’s what I started on as well. Sorry for the essay of a comment lol
@@gabeoleinik4435 no, that was interesting info! I will look into them, I find it more interesting when music instrument have an old soul(made not to be machine perfect), especially would like to make one! in the traditional way, handtools hammers, etc, the whole romance. but info on that is...hard to come by...and google just shows you products its trying to sell you these days...google is broken.
That’s looks, and more importantly, sounds as nice as any professional whistle I’ve played. And l own and have played quite a few. Really good Sunshine. 🎅🏻
You're a hero, and so was Hector.

Great work man!
Id be interested in seeing the old way of making tin whistles.
like out of real tin but seems like no ones bothered to revive and capture the craft?

Oh no. Don't start my brain off thinking about that. Next thing you know, I'll be turning a tapered wooden mandrel and learning how to solder 🤔
@ thats a great idea, I just recently bought my first lathe.
#"we are normal people"
It would be nice if someone could get the measurements for the holes and their sizes.
Your hands are golden, you have built an excellent whistle that sounds good and is also aesthetically very beautiful! Greetings from Italy.
Thank you so much 😀

Wow. Thank you 😁
How long does it take to build your whistle - and how much would you want for one?
great fabrication ! sounds good to my lug 'oles !
Great video
Can I buy this whistle off you please
Whats the inside diameter of the aluminum pipe are you using?
Also how did you find your spacing for the sound holes , you've done such a nice job I want to build one myself lol
Can I buy one of these?
Great video! Can you tell me what kind of chuck is the one on your lathe? Is something commercially available? Thanks!
Thanks. It's a multistar micro chuck. They stopped making them around 15 years ago.
