    The red color from the SSS comes from the Subsurface Radius. The default value is set for skin materials, where the red light goes deeper. You can plug colors there to change the way light behaves.

    I wonder what your thought process for making this video was. Like, what makes you come up with a pickle texture to begin with xD?

    • @RyanKingArt
      @RyanKingArt  2 года назад +5

      Well, when you make as many procedural materials as I do, you start to notice lots of materials all around the real world. Like the concrete sidewalk or the walls of a building. And I eat pickles pretty regularly, and so I thought it would be a really cool material to make.

    hi ryan. i found a minor problem... i built a pickle to scale (about 6 cm long) and when i apply my scale on it, the pickle points are gone. is there a easy way to scale the whole material?

    • @RyanKingArt
      @RyanKingArt  2 года назад +2

      Yes, you can add a mapping node right after the texture coordinate node. Then use the scale values to scale the entire material at once.

      @@RyanKingArt Ryan, I haven't gotten around to baking cucumber yet. Been fiddling with your asteroid. I made 4k textures, did a render. The quality was noticeably lower than with procedural material, plus there were artifacts on the sharp edges. I added the Subsurf modifier to the model. It increased memory size by 1.5 times compared to the procedural material. The result is still of poor quality, although the artifacts have disappeared.
      The only good thing is decreased rendering time. The procedural asteroid rendered in 10 min 14 sec, while the asteroid with baked maps took 5 min 28 sec (128 samples, 1920x1080 resolution).
      But the task is not only to reduce the rendering, but also to get rid of too dense geometry.
      You know, my PC was very good in 2009. 😃
