You should visit Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan where these old Spanish era houses all over the Philippines were preserved and made into a resort hotel .. amazing how they were able to bring and preserve them in this place ..

The architecture you talk about that's like a fusion of spanish and asian styles is a traditional filipino style house called Bahay na Bato.
It evolved from Bahay Kubo, which is basically a wooden house that stands on bamboo or tree trunk stilts; similar to what you see in other southeast asian countries like Thailand or Indonesia. When the spanish came, a lower floor made of stone was added onto the house, but the upper floor & interior remained wooden, and the stilts either became arches or was replaced by stone walls depending on the house. The roof also evolved to became tiled instead of thatched. Meanwhile Chinese influences added those sliding windows & the style of tiles used for the roofs; which is why many bahay na bato has that curved tile roof shape you see in many east asian traditional houses. However the actual style of the roofs remained similar to the traditional Bahay Kubo; the only difference is that now it is tiled & it also got that east asian curve to it.
There's also another type of Bahay na Bato which is exclusive to the northernmost islands of Batanes, which pre-dates spanish colonization. Those houses, along with the Idjangs, are similar in style to traditional okinawan architecture from before okinawa became part of japan. The Idjangs are all gone so we don't know what they really looked like, but there are still some Batanes-style Bahay na Bato still standing today.
There used to be way more Bahay na Bato before WW2, but unfortunately there's only a few left nowadays. The war coupled with economic deterioration really dealt a huge blow on heritage buildings.

We've been twice in Bicol, both summertime. We went to the inner side of Mayon Volcano where there's a walk leading to a wonderful waterfall. We paid entrance, I think then sometime in 2016, about 10 pesos. It was a delightful adventure, for less money.

You were in Vigan. They have a lot of old ancestral houses there. If you want to see great, big, awesome ones, go to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan (Bagac, I think?). Mind you, the entrance fee is pretty steep but it’s beautiful in there. There are restaurants . You may not be able to film everywhere with a big camera but a cellphone will be allowed. Who cares though? You may want to just do a cultural trip, sans film making.

Actually, if you go around there in the residential areas in camalig proper, or just near their town center, just near sumlang lake you'll find more heritage houses like these from spanish era that are well preserved by the owner families.

  • @graceantonio3573

😂❤😊 AH MERGIM YOU HAVE CONVINCED ME! I MUST TRY SUMLANG LAKE RESTAURANT THERE, SOCORRO! WHAT A NAME FOR A RESTAURANT, ITS A COMMON FILIPINO WOMAN NAME BUT IT ALSO MEANS "SORROW" OR HEARTFELT PAIN LIKE GRIEF. YET, THE BEAUTY OF THE PLACE & THE FOOD IS A REAL CELEBRATION! MT. MAYON IS SPECIAL, ITS OUR "COMPETITIVE" VOLCANO BEAUTY AGAINST MT. FUJI OF JAPAN AHAHAHAHAAAA! WE ARE PROUD OF IT! A FEW FRIENDS & MY BROTHER HAVE COME NEAR BUT NEVER CLIMBED IT. THERE WAS A TIME IN THE 70s IT WAS LIKE A "CHALLENGE" DUE TO THE DANGER OF "NPA INSURGENTS" (NEW PEOPLE'S ARMY) BUT I GUESS THAT HAS DIED OUT NOW, I HOPE. GOD BLESS YOU! YES, BICOL IS A WONDERFUL PROVINCE & I REMMBER HOW THE "BICOLANA OR BICOLANO" WAS THOUGHT OF AS VERY FILIPINO NATIVE IN OUR CULTURE IN THOSE BYGONE ERAS OF 70s TO 80s THAT HAD THE "POP" CULTURE OF APRECIATING OUR PROVINCES. MT. PINATUBO IN PAMPANGA ERUPTED THEN, I GUESS THAT RAISED AWARENESS ABOUT MT. MAYON TOO. TCARE!
