  • “Deep Night”
composed in 1929 by Charles E. Henderson and lyrics written by Rudy Vallee
Recordings have been made by Rudy Vallee, Ruth Etting (w/ Eddie Lang on guitar!), and more
There is also a beautifully haunting video on YT of Leon Theremin playing it on a.. theremin.
Here I’m playing a Gibson L4 built in 1920, a lovely oval hole archtop guitar. Recorded with a 1940s Electrovoice Ribbon Mic. Additional engineering by Adam Bradley Schreiber / Hylaphonic Sound.
My recording is available for download via bandcamp and streaming on Spotify.

That's how memory works - this is the title music to the 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde. It's haunted me my whole life. Thank you

I love your style and choice of material. The chordal, plus melody combination, really works.

"Your music makes me feel like I'm traveling through time! Excellent performance. I love the sensitivity of the acoustic sound you achieve."

I aspire to get this fluent with chord work. Thanks for the inspiration.

INcredible. One of my favorite songs of all time. Beautifully played. I'll be trying to slow this down and learning your version, and for that, years of thanks ahead, sir..

Just found your channel man! I love finding these small obscure channels that still play forgotten early 20th century pop music with acoustic archtop and flat top guitars!

Hi! So much lovely music from that era. I know I love it, and I like to think anyone could, even if they don’t know it yet :). Just trying to channel and share in my own way. And yes I do particularly enjoy playing them on instruments from the era.. feels like they’ve got stories to tell. Glad to know you appreciate it, thank you

I keep coming back to this one and thinking: “If he has an album of this stuff, it’s a must buy.” Beautiful playing on a wonderful song (one I think I first heard done by Grant Green).

Wonderful. I must say that oval and round hole Gibson archtops are underrated. In fact, I have never heard a bad sounding L4.

I almost bought one myself, it clashed with my voice so I went with a flat top. Great dynamics here
