    $60 for 15 orings to seal the inner cover to the block from Subaru. Make sure you use lock tite on the internal fasteners! FSM does not tell you. Did this job, everything came loose, and mashed the valves after 1000 miles. Good luck with the build. Putting this motor in a 24 Hours of Lemons Chevette.

    Can't wait to see the motor all apart. I've only rebuilt 4cyl 16v dohc cars so this is a whole other world.. I know I could just Google it but I'd rather watch you. 👊❤

    mine was misfiring and a plume of white smoke coming from the exhaust so I'm sure it was a blown head gasket. but if you are wondering if it could have come from the water pump, you can start with a compression test. also if you remove the spark plugs and crank the engine you will know you have a blown head gasket because coolant will get blown out as your cranking it.

    Doing this today, not looking forward to this project a single bit. Almost looks designed to pop the head off without removal of the inner cover- will find out soon

    Hey do you think it would be possible to do this job without removing the oil pump or rear timing cover? I am in a bit of a situation, I had this job done by my mechanic a year ago and a year later I am having issues. I took it to a different mechanic and when they pulled the front timing cover what they found was, the rear timing cover was cracked (repaired with epoxy) and there were missing and broken bolts from the oil pump. When I called my original mechanic he said that he never removed those to do the job. I am trying to figure out if he is lying, we have been buddies for a long time and he has never done me wrong before, It looks like it would be possible to do what he says, but I was hoping you might be able to give me another perspective on this.

      I have worked at Subaru for about a year now but been in the industry for 14 years and whenever I do those I use a 5 mm socket on my 3/8 ratchet using some kind of pressure to hold it against the bolt like if the engine is still in the car use a pry bar trying to get some front crossmember on to my ratchet and it breaks it free

    Hi. good channel. interesting to see less than textbook work and difficulty in a limited space. You mentioned a link to get the factory service manuals (I have an 01 vdc)?

      +thomas tweedel check my other videos in the series, or just google Subaru service manual. It'll pop up with a few different forums that have the link

    Better doing it when the engine is out. It's not complicated in 4 hours is the engine out there. that's how difficult it is

    • @juanlanda2441
      @juanlanda2441 5 лет назад

      to remove the engine, is it better to drop the cradle and powertrain assembly, or separate the transaxle and use a cherry picker?

    • @hurvayz
      @hurvayz 5 лет назад

      @@juanlanda2441 There is a plastic blank on the engine-gear connection at the top. there is a hydrodynamic transducer about six screws screwed around the perimeter. It will loosen when the engine is turned. Then the motor is already slightly separated from the gearbox and the drive remains in the gearbox. I strongly advise you to take this action because if the motor with the inverter is removed, the main shaft can be damaged during mounting.

    Why not put a new timing chain set as well. Since your that for down. New water pump, New timing chain, the oil pump, I mean that is so hard to get to that it would just make sense.

    • @Dirtcheapdaily
      @Dirtcheapdaily  7 лет назад +3

      +Michael Dunn I don't really see any reason to replace the chains or oil pump. Neither show signs of needing replaced. They're hard parts that don't have a tendency to go bad. Plus, for the cost of new chains, new tensioners/guides, oil pump, along with all the rest of the headgasket job, I could pick up a JDM crate engine with just 40k and now have to worry about any of it.

      +Mr Crabs *cough* no torque *cough* *cough* lol.
      I'm pretty partial to the h6 because of the torque. It's what you use around town in day to day driving. Even in my boosted 2.5, I would hardly ever get into real boost during my daily driving unless I got on it.
      I've driven a few wrx's and they're kinda gutless at low rpm compared to all of my 2.5's

    • @winstonfrug8144
      @winstonfrug8144 7 лет назад

      Dirtcheapdaily h6 is a torque beast! but speaking stock form turbo motor the ej207 is without a doubt the strongest of the subaru fleet :)

    • @Dirtcheapdaily
      @Dirtcheapdaily  7 лет назад

      +Mr Crabs that's probly true. It probly gets the best gas mileage too.
      That's something I'm sad to say really sucks about the h6 hahaha

      @winstonfrug8144 7 лет назад +1

      Dirtcheapdaily true! i just wish they did enough off the shelf performance bits for the h6! but the ej207s are easy and cheap here in aus compared to usa etc..
