Watch the BBC first on iPlayer 👉 bbc.in/iPlayer... Facebook is a company that has grown from nothing to be worth half a trillion dollars in just 15 years. Today nearly a third of all humans are using it, and yet we rarely get to see the people actually in charge of the biggest social network in the world.
The company has suffered a series of deepening scandals and intense media scrutiny. In 2018, their mission - to connect everyone on the planet - seemed to be going dramatically wrong. Data leaks, fake news and hacks on user security were threatening to destroy everything Mark Zuckerberg had built.
Yet throughout this difficult time, the company allowed the BBC’s flagship science strand Horizon to follow key members of the team trying to fix the problems and secure the platform.
This film goes behind the scenes and follows the teams inside Facebook. It tackles difficult questions, like how our data is used and what content should and shouldn’t be on the site, but also shows how Facebook works, what the teams are doing to secure it, and reveals a hidden technological playground, where some of the smartest engineers in the world are being hired to build systems and technology no one has built before.

“Money as a secondary thing.” Yeah, right... 😁
lol biggest lie of all time.
Well, if you have free gym membership, food, places to hang out. You’re happy. Why not?
Nghia Nguyen of course!
of course money can be a secondary concern. Money itself comes those who do the right thing, even when money wasn't their concern
@@hinditime8034 Yeah, right. Facebook does "the right thing". You are delusional, wake up.
This says nothing about actually working at facebook!
said the guy who don't work at Facebook
Facebook just fired the Tech Lead!!!!!
le timing ikr
No no no .... Tech Lead fired the Facebook
LOL, old news but I'm not surprised either. He's extreme nihilistic.
RILLA bruh watch his. Video explaining
"Money is secondary for us." Some employees almost look embarrassed by the blatant lie.
No they didn't - they are all emotionally retarded and they believe whatever helps them feel special and chosen
@@dancroitoru364 mad cuz you can’t get a job there
Hardworking Liars not for connecting only for data mining... And selling to highest bidders...
Nice game
N we get no money n no choice
At Facebook you can lose your job for something you said on Facebook.
That applies to any job though
What's up with fake Gordon Ramsay dude?
This reminds me of the intro in Silicon Valley about Hoola. Trying to be unique for the sake of being unique, forcing employees to do supposedly "fun" things
*Hooli
i was like... holl up... that ramsey??
Uncle roger like it.
Silicon Playground
It’s cosplay my guy, it’s Facebook, it’s for fun🥳
Welp...this video did not age well...
....then when the cameras are turned off: "Okay guys, let's figure out how to sell more people's data..."
Well they do work like this actually
Connecting + controlling people
Worked as a contingent worker at facebook and it has been a great experience.
What company?
Disappointed in the lack of criticism. They haven't or weren't allowed to talk with actual or former employees. No figures on staff turnover or whatsoever.
When your employer provides you with food, game rooms, a place for your children, your pets and hangs up a hammock in your office, it's them saying "WE OWN YOU NOW! YOU'LL NEVER LEAVE AGAIN!"
never leave until we no longer need you or (i suspect) you refuse to do the overtime at any time that we demand ..
Can you say, "Company Town"??✝️⚜️
Unless they drop the ball. Then it’s time for “a chat”…
Facebook is literally the same, simplest looking site to exist. How are there so many people working at this company when their contributions are unnoticeable. What goes on there?
My question exactly!
I assume you are not in tech. Here's the thing, the "same site" requires a lot of scaling up resources when they grow from say 100k users to a billion users. Also Facebook acquired a lot of companies on which these engineers work on(like Instagram, Oculus VR etc)
Am I watching an ad? Feels like they're trying to recruit lol. How much did BBC get from this?
Billion dollars...

Does it do good in the world
Statistically social media has increased mental health disorders and caused a decrease in activity that helps mental health, it has also affected our social ability as a species
If that was truly there philosophy, they would shut down the company
I don't agree, whatsapp, now owned my Facebook is tremendously helpful to me to stay in touch with some of my relatives in India. Their products do help forge connections. But social media can become toxic and we need to address it, I would actually like to work at Facebook to reduce the toxicity on their platform for a better experience for the user.
3:00 I had literally the same face as this dude when he said about fb is not for money
😂
All is see is privacy thiefs!
I thought sorting hat told you the house you are in and not give you the option.
So pleased I left FB in 2016.
I don't miss it.
It's an evil company that take NO responsibility for the harm it creates.
Little Townie can you develop plz ?

Not a company designed to make money? That’s an odd statement. I suppose they shouldn’t be upset about Apple’s stance on privacy.
good point
So from a thousand peoples most of enjoying their best life there
cant wait to say "Hi, my name ______ and am from Africa"
Hi Underscore!!! How's life??
To be honest, is it just me or is this portraying Facebook in a positive way and making me want to work there.
Money is a secondary thing
Today: We need to take revenge on Apple for limiting our data collection.
People getting hacked every day or experiencing technical issues and need help.
Everyone at Facebook: 🤷♂️🙉
This is an ad for why you should TOTALLY trust FB, and always give them access to all your information. Because they're just trying to build a better world, guys.
Bs
I receive profiles of “People I may know.” This is a wilful marketing lie as it’s obviously far more likely I won’t know these people due to the sheer size of Facebook.
Someone wants to look like Gordan Ramsay haha
Can't spell culture without cult
9 months ago, I was rejected for by FB for position with salary X (at that time my salary was only 0.8X)... Thankfully, now I am able to obtain similar salary in job that I like much better than the one I applied at FB... Indeed many roads can lead us to Rome....
It's bribery, if it wasn't for these massive employee benefits then these company's would be liquidated because of there crimes

Why this good video just got 600 views?
Cuz it's on the BBC show
FB Guy: "We don't tolerate d***s."
Mark Z: "Someone fire him!"

Imagine being soulless and empty and bitter and still alive and realizing that bitterness and desperation and emptiness is never going away but you're still breathing and everything seems to hard and you suddenly can't stop hating yourself for beunv weak and vetting overwhelmed easy and then you can't even blame a scapegoat cause you still feel guilty and trying to ignore the feeling adds to more inadequate feelings and then you start to feel frantic and try to keep up appearances but that makes you feel inadequate too...then you start to get confused and think why can't your brain help you feel good. You're sure you're not wrong in knowing that everything has a right to live.....not you

Bit like working for the BrusselsBroadcastingCompany but with billions being thrown about.
What? “We r not a company that’s design to make money” 3:01
This is low key mad
almost all work is some degree of mindless sheepishness or insanity..
I dislike hackathons because they too technical to get anything done without advanced backend and or front end user experience development.
I wonder why Chinese phones have a default Facebook services app hidden underneath.....
They better spend more time with customer service/tech support peeps like us.
We're the ones closest to their users 😉
I thought He is Gordon Ramsay
2:52- 3:11- reminded me of Frances Haugen
My 12 years old account has been disabled. I have all my old pictures and important documents. I have also linked my Facebook account with games. Now I have lost everything. I am also owner of 2 big Facebook groups. I really wants to talk with someone on Facebook who can help. 😢😢
It's probably just me, but I didn't find anything about this attractive.
3:08 "we think about money as a secondary thing" and look away... to me, he does not even believe what he himself is saying

I worked out of their office in Sydney this week in Barangaroo. It was as drab as any other sterile office. It’s not like this everywhere.

Dear team, please provide subtitle as we know that a very few subscribers are deaf/hard-of-hearing. I know it will be a heavy task to satisfy their need, but they will appreciate you that "YOU REALLY CARE FOR THEM". It is my purposeful request to you to add subtitle to every new video you make! I hope you will fulfill it!

I wonder If they have a decent contract or of its just zero hour bull
i think that we can be confident that they offer a very good starting contract in order to attract the most talented people..
however i suspect promotion prospects probably remain entirely unpredictable or non-existent.. and that there is some clause about making you redundant the day that you are no longer innovating anything or willing to do overtime on demand..
