People: Can you be more clear on what we're getting exactly? Butch: ruclips.net/video/9LR9ha_BgLc/видео.html ruclips.net/video/P_4nOSqPUww/видео.html ruclips.net/video/qhwNAMgX6ms/видео.html
I think Butch's time at Nickelodeon has gotten him too accustomed to the idea of pitching a vague idea for a series and having other talented people fill in the blanks once it's officially greenlit.
@@MrParkerman6 they were. He had absolutely nothing for Danny phantom when he pitched it. No design, pilot, script or anything. He pitched a normal high school kid with a supernatural twist. (basically 90% of the supernatural genre)
@@user-mp1is6ys7m I feel like Butch got lucky with his jumpstart in animation. I think theres even an interview I saw in another video where Butch says he literally randomly made the fairly odd parents in 15 minutes. Just for the sake of having a show that's his own.
@@blackham7 he really didn't even run or help the show so it really only was for bragging rights (which caused a lot if people to not get the credit they deserve) especially with this "I created your childhood" thing
Yes. Butch Hartman created the entirety of "Danny Phantom." Absolutely NOBODY ELSE was involved, especially not Steve Marmel, Mark Banker, Sib Ventress, Steven Sustarsic, David Silverman, Marty Isenberg, Matt Wayne, George Goodchild, Ellen Lichtwardt Goodchild, Scott Peterson, Kevin Sullivan, Marc Drop, or Amy Keating Rogers. One show taking multiple writers to develop, that would be silly.
Leaf-Razor it's not just a writer's it's the voice actors and actresses the artist the colourist the music department and the sound effects the supervising producers among many other things.
Leaf-Razor The kind of sad thing is that many of these writers have shown their thankfulness for being able to work on TV shows like Butch's. It's a shame that they aren't getting as much recognition by creators.
I'd argue it was more Steve Marmel's show than Butch's in the first two seasons, as Marmel wrote the bulk of the episodes and seemed to have the most direct involvement out of any one crew member. I don't think it's a coincidence that the show took a significant dip in quality when they lost him.
Gosh. This may sound awful but I’m SO GLAD people are waking up to Butch Hartman. His arrogance and his grip on everyone’s nostalgia. How he doesn’t give credit to other people on his shows. How manipulative his ideas are. How he can’t take criticism. How he isn’t REALLY that great of a writer. As someone who’s gotten a lot of backlash for criticizing him, watching big youtubers talk and criticize him and actually DISCUSS him has me LIVING
@@lilylopnco Have you seen all the RUclips videos on him from other creators? Definitely ones that are clocking a million views, many many with over 100,000 views. I actually can't even tell you how many creators have done videos on him by now. Check them out, though, because it's very entertaining. Only bad thing is trying to comment on videos 1-2 years old, but screw it.
"You trusted me with your childhood. Will you trust me with your future?” No, I believe that honor goes to Hanna Barbera, Jim Henson, Tom Ruegger Cartoon Network, Arlene Klasky, Gabor Csupo, Paul Germain, Craig McCracken, Peter Hanna, Lauren Faust, Genndy Tartakovsky, Bob Clampett, Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Stephen Hillenburg, Bob Camp, Joe Murray, Danny Antonucci and of course, Steve Marmel.
To compare it with Mr. Enter's campaign again, you can tell he has devoted so much time and effort towards the project. He has DOZENS of scripts, concept art, a book published based on the series, a DeviantART group, a theme song...you can put money towards the project and feel confident that you're not wasting your money whether or not his goal is met. Even with the livestreams, where he can't guarantee to return your money, he says that he's still putting that money towards an animatic for the project. Is it perfect? I don't think so. I think he's capable of doing something good with the series and I find it noble that he's planning on paying his animators a decent amount for the pilot despite it not being professional (treating animators well is always a plus), but I'm not sure that five or so years in the reviewing community indicates that he knows how to select animatord or voice actors, which isn't good when the team is mainly going to be comprised of freelancers and such. Doug Walker is a well known reviewer and his original productions are infamous, from what I've heard! Not to say Mr. Enter is incompetent or that the pilot HAS to be TV ready (pilots have more room to be flawed anyway), but like Butch, he doesn't really have expertise in the aspect of the industry he's trying to get into. Unlike Butch, however, he fully admits this. He doesn't tear down his project, but he also doesn't make big promises he can't keep. He's transparent and people can get somewhat of an idea of the quality of the project before they put their money into it. He's more realistic than Butch too. The donation amount is HUGE and I'm a little worried that he might not reach his goal, but he's fully aware he can fail and has a plan if he does. He's only asking for money for one episode, not a whole season or the entire series. Butch is so vague. I don't know how much investment or time he put into this. He could have woken up that morning with the idea! He has no plans publicly available, no concept art or web designs. Heck, he didn't even trademark Oaxis Entertainment! Anyone could probably buy the domain name and trademark the name if they wanted to! It's even more concerning that he's hiring backers for his project. In Mr. Enter's case, he's a RUclips reviewer with little to no connections in the industry. Growing Around is an indie project and it's okay if the pilot isn't as high production as a television cartoon because he's just starting out. Butch is marketing himself as a professional in the industry and he's hiring random people on the Internet! Well, WEALTHY random people, but that's not any better! He must have at least a few connections, but he doesn't state that anyone he's worked with is going to be a part of this. No Jerry Trainor or ANYTHING. And this is supposed to be a high quality streaming service for families! I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this flopped. The campaign seems empty and soulless. If he can't even stay passionate about The Noog Network, then how can I guarantee he's not going to drop Oaxis as soon as it doesn't meet his expectations? Like, not even failing to get off the ground- getting a small amount of success and not becoming as grand as he hopes it'd be? It's troubling that Butch seems to be less prepared than someone with a lot less experience than him. Enter and Butch have both brought me joy over the years and I have fond memories of them. I have a lot more investment in Enter's project than Butch's, though I suppose it's not the fairest comparison considering I've been following Growing Around for years and I can empathize as an autistic creator who has their own passion project. Butch is decent, I suppose, but I can't honestly say that I hope Oaxis succeeds (besides wanting his backers to have not wasted their money if he meets his goal). I would donate hundreds of dollars to Enter if I could. Butch would be fortunate to get a quarter that I found under one of my couch cushions. I hope I've gotten my message across well enough. I'm not the best at wording things and I don't want to come across the wrong way or anything like that.
+Cali Spaniel You worded that comment well. I agree with virtually everything. I'd suggest spacing out paragraphs according to which sentences are about the same idea. You made a huge wall of text, but thankfully, the individual sentences are pretty well-written.
The ironic thing is is that if he just straight-up said, "I'm gonna make a 'No Queers Allowed' family streaming service" and went for the Fox News type audience instead of doubling down on making vague as hell promises of a "family-friendly" streaming service to his chronically broke and childless fanbase that he used to make cartoons for, he'd have been 100% funded *yesterday*.
Why does the joke of Butch saying "I'm Butch Hartman" remind me of the Spongebob Movie of Mr. Krabs saying, "Hello, I like money." Reporter: "Why create Oaxis?" Butch: "Hello, I'm Butch Hartman."
Oh man the Danny Phantom controversies! Remember when the OBHF/DPOF mods went on a ban-spree for anyone who drew or was associated with any kind of slash art or slash fanfiction, even if it was like legal and not smutty ships (e.g. Tucker/Danny or Sam/Paulina)? Then there was this whole True Fan vs. Anti-Fan thing, where the True Fans only used the cartoon canon in their discussions and creative works, while the Anti-Fans were everyone else. Then, a Real Fans movement on deviantART started where all the fans were supposed to be able to come together regardless of (legal and not smutty) ships, but the mods brought the banhammer on those members too (albeit gave members a choice-choose Real Fans or OBHF). His religion was always cited by the mods as part of his personal views-the very pure family-friendly thing AND the canon-only thing. I think part of this was a result of user DarkDP making some porn of his characters, but I really don't think it was exclusive to that. I idolized Hartman as a kid. I was breathless when I met him in 2006 at Comic-Con, during my peak Danny Phantom phase, but this recent resurgence of Hartman has me uncomfortable. In part, this is because it's all of a sudden mainstream to be nostalgic for Danny Phantom when I got poked fun of in middle school for it, and in part it's because-like you guys said-it feels weird that he's touting himself as "the creator of your childhood" and using that to market himself. Like, Hartman seems like a nice person. He's extremely successful. However, I'm really skeptical about his direction with both Oaxis and his full time RUclips Creator status.
Shut Up, Sprinkles! You had a “icon/hero worship “ phase like all of us, it’s normal, in reality even the people we look up to are flawed average joes and Janes trying to make a living, and by the end of the day people deserve respect but NOOOT to be viewed as God’s, every single one of us are just merely faulty mortals living our lives and we have to remind ourselves that
People calling PieGuy an edgelord tho. Now I can only imagine him as an edgelord from like 2014. "My pies are filled with suffering and baked with the heat of hatred"
I get so many Daddy Derek vibes from Butch Hartman. Both seem to be no negativity, can't take criticism, heavy Christian creators with visions that no one understands. Their attackers are always wrong because they are bullies. I used to watch Hartman's RUclips channel and follow his Twitter until I got these vibes from him. Even as a Christian myself, I am very wary of those who constantly reference family-friendly, wholesome Christian content because those same people often use their religion to spread hatred and lgbtqa+ phobia, which I wholeheartedly disagree with. Also with the whole Teen Titans Go!, Chloe, and other videos like that made by him, I feel like he does it because it has all been said and done before. I saw the video where he watched the Teen Titans Go Movie trailer, and it felt so fake. I honestly would not be surprised if he watches reviewers like you two and many others, learns general opinions on these shows, and spits it out to his audience in order to relate to them. This is mainly what made me stop watching and following him.
Yeah, I also get weirded out when Fellow Christians go all in like that. I guess I'm not the only one who get's uncomfortable about that, nice to know.
When Butch Hartman left Nickelodeon, I had to tell my mom because he was my idol growing up. I explained, "He left Nickelodeon to become a full time RUclips creator, lol."
When you guys started talking about animal violence on Planet Earth, all I could think of was the FOP episode where Chester and AJ get into a fight just before the Crimson Chin/Crash Nebula crossover event, and AJ's dad blocks the animal violence on TV.
A lot of the stuff Butch advocates for and complains about online can be contradicted by scenes from his own shows. He said that he doesn't like hidden adult humor in kid's show, but meanwhile there are literally compilation videos of all the dirty jokes in Fairly OddParents. He once complained on Twitter that not every show is a light-hearted zany comedy (translation: "Why isn't every show like mine? I'm a genius!"), but meanwhile he created Danny Phantom - an action show. He once talked about not liking toilet humor in cartoons, but there are dozens of examples of them in his own shows. He always insists that the ghosts in Danny Phantom aren't real ghosts of dead people but just inter-dimensional monsters, even though the show has contradicted this several times with ghosts like Desiree, Sydney Poindexter, Ember, the ghost dog; and other implied ghosts like The Lunch Lady. This bugs the shit out of me because it's like, "I watched the show, Butch! I know what I saw!" I used to think that he had just forgotten some of the details regarding the lore because it has been a long time since he worked on the show, but he keeps pushing that narrative and it makes me think that he's actively trying to retcon his own show because of his new born-again "family friendly" worldview.
Ryan1231 I can say he hide/shadow deleted my comment that literally was pointing out his retcon nature of Danny Phantom and it was worded very politely I even brought up other contradictions he made in his shows and statements , so I bet he is trying to retcon it do to his beliefs and hiding comments that point it out
24:34 well actually in one of Butch’s videos he talked about Breadwinners negatively, saying there’s too much butt and toilet humor in it. I think the reason he doesn’t talk bad about any of his shows is because of his ego and his determination to keep everything cheerful and hip and cool. Like the guy advertises himself on his social media as “the guy who created your childhood” that really shows how highly he thinks of himself, despite he only made two shows that were beloved by most people but both suffered from seasonal rot (especially FOP, and DP got bad after Steve Marmal and other crew members left so Butch was probably responsible for the worst of it), TUFF Puppy got mixed reviews (I really liked it) and despite decent ratings the Sponge’s ratings killed it and it died on Nicktoons, And Bunsen got worse reviews and mate the same fate. Also, he actually has in fact addressed FOP fans’ criticisms of adding new characters, he stated “oh well I had to keep the show fresh”, when he goes and criticizes TTG on becoming a comedy because CN wanted a comedy
I agree with the whole Butch Hartman didn't create everything thing. My mentor Stephen Silver did a lot and I mean A LOT of character design work for FOP and Danny Phantom and I never heard Butch giving Silver any credit or acknowledgement whatsoever.
Butch seems like a genuine and nice guy but as has been said before, he's got a bad case of over-confidence and egotism. The whole "created your childhood" is extremely evident of that. I was more of an Animaniacs & Johnny Bravo kid. His shows didn't define my childhood. That aside, because these shows were so successful (somewhat) he paints himself in perfect light. It's good to be confident in your work but every creator has their gripes. Where many of the fans didn't like the dog or Chloe, he blames Nick b/c it's what they told him to do. He doesn't want to take the fall. His youtube career hasn't helped either. I'd say the majority of people who subscribe aren't doing it for the content, but because it's Butch "I created your childhood" Hartman. People saw him, his channel, and subscribed which is why he rose up so fast. He should open up more. He's made a castle of confidence that nothing, not even himself, will break down. Explain the errors and the failures. It's good to inspire others but if you paint yourself as perfection then you're letting those around you reach for the impossible. People learn more from mistakes and failures. Unfortunately, this kickstarter may be the failure that Butch needs for him to realize that.
A man who created 4 TV shows (2 went downhill, 2 got cancelled) and he expects people to back this unrealistic project? I'm sorry, but Kickstarters always make me skeptical
It is kinda hard for me to understand what nowadays can be seen as family friendly or not. Back when I was a kid we had in my country shows like Alfred J. Kwak, The Animals of Farthing Wood and very old anime shows like the once produced by Nippon Animation, who actually can be quit dark and depressing sometimes. But they were considered as kids/family shows.
Which is why "family friendly" is so hard to define. What does it mean to certain groups of people? Is it only positive, funny content or can there be serious topics like death/mental illness? There is so much that some people just don't want to see but others would be okay with as long as there is no swearing, violence, or sexual content. And different ages of kids are allowed/able to handle more "mature" themes/visuals. And then we can get into the idea that some adults don't like that "hard" stuff and want to watch "clean" shows but don't want to have to watch "silly" children shows. So again, what does the all-encompassing "family friendly" term even mean? That is certainly something that needs to be defined. Sorry for the long comment.
Dave102693 I still can't believe Dragon Ball Super is TV-14 over in the West. The Manga is also Rated Teen yet it's way tamer than the "A For all Ages" DBZ Manga.
So I listened to Butch's podcast (if you're interested the relevant stuff starts about halfway through at 20:00 minute mark, you can find it on soundcloud) about Oaxis and there are some things that I think people don't know he's clarified and talked about (though it doesn't help the case much) 1. He said he and his wife have thought about this for a while so it doesn't seem (?) like an abrupt idea 2. He said that the main reason the kickstarter was made was because he went to investers, they asked if he had a social media presence (probably to know if he has an audience) and he said he had about a million followers on all platforms and they said that he should start a kickstarter. *TLDR; it seems to be an attempt to attract/assure venture capital* 3. He briefly mentioned the noog network and echoed the question about why he would make a new network when he has that one, but from what I've heard he didn't really address the issue 4. He does seem aware that Oaxis is basically the G rated version of Netflix and calls it that himself saying something along the lines of 'it's the same thing but we will do it on a much bigger level and we'll centre on it'' which i'm assuming he means the entire network will be focused on that instead of it being a side thing (which i'm not sure makes much of a huge selling point) and that the uploadable content will be monitered by humans called 'Mama and Papa' bears who he said would likely be parents/stay at home parents 5. He said the kickstarted money would go to -building the platform digitally and making some content (around 80%) -he said he wanted it to be LIVE about a year from now, 2019 (????) 6. Phase 2 after the first kickstarted stuff is the RUclips uploadable thing, basically he said it would be the family friendly version of RUclips shows on his platform 7. Apparently lots of new shows 8. When asked where he thinks Oaxis will be in five years, he said he thought it would be one of the premier streaming platforms mathcing netflix (!!!) and though he seemed to have the foresight to see that that might sound arrogant (which he said) he thought it was just 'confident'. 9. In terms of acquiring content he said that he would acquire libraries of content that fit their model 10. The examples he gave about potential shows are school of rock (with tweaks), napolean dynamite, the greatest showman, etc. This is all so confusing. He seems like such a benign guy, but the way he talks about his ideas seems like he has his head in the clouds but no real concept of reality, which is confusing for someone who has been around the industry for as long as he has been. He seems to have overestimated the kind of experience 20 years of showrunning would apparently given him in running a network, but in reality it seems to have done very little in influencing his actual thinking. He seems more invested in being the next Walt Disney (and says so himself) than he does in doing anything tangible. Can anyone say Delusions of Grandeur? I wanted to support Butch. I think starting a (small) network would have been a great idea if he'd only kept his feet on the ground, started small, stayed humble, changed his business model, and tried to invest in a next generation of animators instead of focusing so excessively on the idea of him being the face of some huge influence on culture. I think it could have even worked if he kept the 'family friendly' thing but redefined/articulated better the concept. Right now it just seems like a big con and i'm not even sure he knows it. He seems so bent on his vision being the correct one and his past career giving him the supposed influence to pull it off that he's not aware of the immense flaws present in the entire thing. I just really hope this doesn't end in some huge mess, and if it does, something worthwhile can be made out of it.
Butch is a conservative. Have you seen what Twitter users he follow online? Of course? Unlike Tara Strong. *BUTCH DOES NOT USE POLITICS ON HIS SOCIAL MEDIA SITES WHEN TALKING ABOUT CARTOONS!* lol Also, 4Kids is an old school dubbing company? WHAT! I don't remember people ever parsing them as old school when they censored One Piece up the ass. lol
Also, Boi! Butch is just being Butch. Let him see the numbers on his Kickstarter and if all else fails? He can try again with investors. He will still thank his fans for supporting him even when it all fails.
Aqua Burst07 No you're right. Mama and Papa bears sounds creepy and so easily abused 😂 I think he needs moderators for the downloadable feature (basically part of what the RUclips algorithm does, but people). The LGBT+ worries are very valid. Regardless of what side you are on in that debate, people NEED to know upfront what they are signing up for or supporting. I imagine it would be pretty horrible to be a part of/an ally to the LGBT community who has supported this and Butch only to find out down the line that you will be completely excluded. Also the whole slash forum issue, even if you could make the argument that Butch didn't intend for it to get as bad as it did, it still shows how poor he seems to be at managing filters. Hope he's gotten better. Though I don't entirely agree on the 'family friendly' issue, your points make a ton of sense. I think more mature things can be used to make great plot points and that's fine (and can be great conversation starters for kids and parents), and I can get why people would be widely cynical to the idea of a need for 'FF' content. I do however think there is some semblence of an audience for people who would enjoy that and i'm pretty behind the idea in general. I just think he could have made his selling point much more compellingly. Instead of a vague corporate concept like 'family friendly', why not detail what he means by that and focus on things people can agree on and get behind? Great stories with great characters, comedy and moments aren't dependent on the presence of disturbing themes, sexualization or excessive violence and some people don't care whether they're there or not there when watching them. I doubt people who aren't squeemish about that stuff would intentionally look for it ('I really wanna watch someone's head ripped off today!'), they just don't care if it's there especially if it's integrated into the story well and makes it better. So even if 'family friendly' is subjective and cliche I think Butch can find a good middle ground where he caters for people who explicitly want 'safer' content and also people who could care less about content being safe or not and just want good shows. And while you are right that the media can't do a parents job entirely for them, being a parent is still really hard and even people with the best intentions find themselves in positions where they don't have the time to monitor what their kids see as much as they would like to (especially single parents, parents with a lot of kids, lower income families who have to work a lot) and no parent can catch everything or even a lot of things with how widely available media is today. So if this is important to them, this would be really convenient. Also 4kids. Yikes. Ironically one of their (less horrible) dubs got me into anime, so i'm kind if thankful, but you are very right. The sailor moon issue is burned into my brain as a hilarious but painful example of censoring gone wrong (that moment when two female sailor scouts who are in a lesbian relationship are called 'cousins' in the dub but the company forgets/fails to remove all the romantic subtext so it goes from obvious lesbian couple to heavily implied lesbian INCESTUOUS couple 😂)
The whole "family friendly" sends up a red flag. Butch is a devout Christian, and he was notorious for opposing slash fiction on his website in ye olden days of 2004. I can't help but think he'd consider having gay characters to not be family friendly. Maybe he's changed his mind, but I can't be too sure.
Brandon Roberts what I don’t like about people today is that you can’t really have an opinion (no matter how wrong and backwards thinking it may or may not be. Talking about everyone on the Internet not just butch). Also what I don’t like about people nowadays (and this time I am talking about stuff against butch) is that they don’t think you can not laugh off all of the drawings/fanfiction of his shows without going insane.
Gaming Master Anthony And the fact is that I don’t care if he is against LGBT or a devout Christian and is going to be against those kinds of characters as long as he outlines it in his kickstarter instead of trying to manipulate us into supporting him if we really shouldn’t be based on our own opinions
Filtrations ah, got you. And what I meant about him going insane is if he actually sanctioned the pretty explicit and/or horrid fan art. (Like the Danny Vlad shippers)
I feel like he'd have better luck running a fun and cool Christian family network or something. At least it's a niche market and could give them direction, plus draw interest since there's not very many decent Christian cartoons out there. I'm not a fan of indoctrination but kids in sheltered religious families deserve good cartoons too. There's a few churches out there that want to make cartoons but they're obviously not sure how to make cartoons. Partnering with them would make for some pretty interesting material. Imagine Dorbeez or Veggie Tales or Gaither's pond with Butch Hartman influence, streamed on this online platform. He could try to get in touch with Doug TenNapel to make an original cartoon. Honestly I'd love to see that.
Speaking of the Fun Box, this also kinda reminds me of that FOP episode where Timmy's dad was a dictator and wanted everybody to be happy, and negativity wasn't allowed. :0
58:50 John Kricfalusi actually did make a kickstarter of his own years ago, to fund a single cartoon. Granted, that campaign IIRC wasn't nearly as vague or as much of an ego trip as Butch's, but he still did it. And what happened was that his cartoon did get funded and was slated to come out in February 2013... and it never came out in a completed state, at least publicly. Yeah, many people were already done with him long before the sexual allegations came out.
I would like to think that's just a coincidence. I want to give that benefit of the doubt. I don't have any evidence one way or another, but now that you've brought it up, I can't help but notice it.
Definitely not a coincidence, if you ask me. “Family-friendly” is likely a whistle for “no gays, trans people, etc,” as well as anything with any kind of nature themes.
I was goin to commend about that is probably a coincide butl i remember him saying that today cartoobd touch matters that shouldn't be touch in kids cartoon and give the kids negative role models. So he could made it on purpose.
I should point out, sometime yesterday he all of a sudden got two $10,000 donations, jumping his total to $47K in a week's time. I have no idea what to make of this. Honestly, if the campaign succeeds, it'll go one of two routes: that of Cans Without Labels, where it's trapped in eternal limbo and is never actually publicly finished (though at least this time, the creator wouldn't be an objectively awful person - I hope), or that of the Noog Network will no one will care about it.
Investors buy equity in a business. They earn money when a business that they invested in succeeds. That doesn't happen with Kickstarter. Donators are customers, not investors. I'm not necessarily accusing Butch of this, but it's not uncommon for creators on Kickstarter to "fluff" the excitement of their campaigns by having a large amount of money artificially donated, to inspire more people to get excited and donate. Anyone who wants to give that much money to a project is not going to go through a means where there is no return on investment. I guess you could argue that maybe an agreement was made with some investors that they go through Kickstarter to fluff the numbers but still receive equity, but that seems like a stretch, and, let's be honest, no smart investor would put their money towards a project that is still in the idea phase, much less an idea that doesn't seem to have any substantitive plan for execution.
Im getting some serious Mighty number 9 and Keiji Inafune vibes from all this, maybe thats either too harsh considering how little we know about this, but then again at least Mighty Number 9 told you their plan and details from the word go
LOL I had this same comparison. Basically veteran decides to strike out on their own and banks on their past accomplishments to get some money. Then crashes and burns later, disappointing at best, nothing comes out at worse. At the least though MN9 had a better list of tangible rewards.
Actually, John K did try a crowd funding campaign back in 2013. Nothing to this scale, but it was for a short Cans Without Labels starring some characters of his (some of which appeared in Ren and Stimpy and other projects). The campaign got funded over the original goal ($136,723 out of the original $110,000 goal) and he did get quite a ways through production (you can see various WIPs with just a quick search), but still to this day, the short hasn't come out. And due to what's come out about him recently, I doubt the short will ever see the light of day. To be honest, from what I've seen, the short itself doesn't even look that good. The story is all over the place, the humor is trying WAY too hard to have that "edgy" quality Ren and Stimpy had, the animation is fine but nowhere near deserving of the 136 grand. So yeah. Shame.
TheRetroOreo The cartoon was pretty terrible IMO, to the point where I don't even feel bad about it being trapped in eternal purgatory. I'd argue the animation is a rare instance where it's too good. It's overexaggerated beyond belief and everyone acts like they're sugar high, to the point where it's extreme overkill. Even Looney Tunes mellowed down every so often.
That’s an insult to Eric Cartman Butch is like Mayor Shelbourne from "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" Timmy Turner is an annoying dumb egotistical and hyperactive version of Flint Lockwood
I wouldn't say he's a fraud, just a guy with big dreams and ideas but doesn't realise the current situation or the realistic expectations needed for them. He kinda thinks everybody wants what he wants, and everyone's like him, and he's still stuck on the days past when he was much bigger and influential, and he kinda stays on that rollercoaster that ended a long time ago. I believe this is genuine, just in a very wrong and misinformed place, generally worrying from a business perspective, and a lot of hard work in the wrong direction.
Oh my God the *fun box* mentality annoys me, because from the first three seasons of the Fairly Oddparents you couldn't believe it was the *same guy* helming it that helms this crap and his RUclips channel. Again, a *Jurassic Park* crowdfund would sound less stupid! Also, who clamored for more Fairly Odd Junk?
I like Straight Sol, she doesn’t buy into anyone’s bull crap😆. I like Butch Hartman to but this campaign he started had me feeling iffy right after seeing that first ad for Oaxis he did.😄 “The overall value is the sum of it’s parts” Not the one most successful of them.
If Butch wanted to make a streaming platform that promoted Christian values, then why didn't he market Oaxis from that angle? You have sites like Christian Mingle and all those Christian movies and music. It would have also given a more concrete picture of what the project is.
The Christian community is very willing to support stuff like this, especially from people who are successful in the secular celebrity world. Look at Kirk Cameron. I think you're right. If he hd gone to the christian community with this, he would have had greater success. I think that he didn't (doesn't) want to attach the negative stigma an expectations to the project that would come from being labeled a christian organization.
I honestly wouldn't consider myself a Butch Hartman fan, I liked FOP in the earlier years and I honestly think Butch was his own worst enemy when it came to Danny Phantom, as it was pretty clear his vision of what he wanted that show to be vs what Steve Marmel and the other writers wanted it to be were two totally different things. It really doesn't help that when you look back at Danny Phantom's history, you can see the show took a massive nosedive in quality during its polarizing 3rd season. Vlad had became a generic cartoon villain, all the episodes were one shot villain of the week episodes with no major season story arc, the newer ghost villains weren't as interesting as the ones that were introduced in the first two seasons and well, all the characters had become shallow one note versions of themselves in that season. Plus I remember all the online drama that was going on during that time, DarkDP's art, Steve Marmel leaving the show, the mods on Butch's forums going on a banning spree over slash fan art etc. It just seems so goddamn weird that Butch would try to capitalize on Danny Phantom's popularity now that he's left Nick, I honestly don't think 2000's era nostalgia is strong enough for people to really fund something like this. And I honestly can't see this project going anywhere because well (and Butch may not want to admit this but) he's trying to compete with Netflix and Amazon Prime, and he is doing it in the worst possible way imaginable. I am not against family friendly content, but it's really up to the parents to monitor what their kids should and shouldn't watch. It's not the entertainment industry's job to babysit your kids and monitor their viewing habits. Another thing Butch is failing to take into consideration is the fact that, people sub to streaming services to watch already existing popular media whenever they want however they want, with exclusive shows being a bonus. And his service isn't offering any of that, plus the whole "We'll monitor all the content to make sure it's family friendly" thing? Yeah, that's gonna end up biting Hartman in the ass hard when push comes to shove. Because what he considers family friendly, might not be what other people consider family friendly and vice versa. This project is just a goddamn train wreck.
On DP don't forget he keeps pushing the narrative the ghosts was just monsters from another dimension they just called ghosts as it was cooler sounding , when the series clearly stated up till season 3 some was of people and creatures that died and then others was heavily hinted at being dead. But when season 3 rolled around that stuff pretty much vanished among quality going down so you can tell who was the good writers and such had vanished
Lloyd Landrum recently stubled upon this video ruclips.net/video/pZF1t7dO5TI/видео.html and he just says that he doesn't use the ghosts of dead people because he's a Christian. So I guess that explains it. Lol.
Ada wong which shows he shouldn't have even called them ghosts in the first place then and just had the show be completely different from the start by making it about monsters or the like instead , which also shows how ignorant/stupid he is in hindsight in ideal making even back then ALSO I must point out he at varies times pushed the ''ghosts aren't ghostes in Danny phantom narrative''' so he has worded it different at different times
That's definitely a lot more fiscally feasible. Honestly, just using existing streaming services like Netflix already tears up a lot of the glaring questions lingering around Oaxis. I can believe that Butch can find the people and the investors needed to start a studio that is dedicated to filling up the Netflix Kids section with quality shows. I absolutely do not believe that Butch can start or run a Netflix competitor.
i have a personal experience with butch he was promoting his fornite content cop sorry i meant clickbait cop which is so ironic i cant even start to talk about it so i left a tweet basically very politely reminded him of his clickbait the next tweet he posted was saying how ' its easy to criticise, but its hard to make' idk whether it was a response to me or not but im assuming it is and if so if hes saying i cant criticise him because he made some video ( why did i just waste ages writing )
WOW...I had a feeling Pieguy had been holding back with some of his opinions on Butch, and it sure came out here. Very good and entertaining discussion!
After some thought, I think he'd have a better chance by gaining the rights to air Fairly Odd Parents and Danny Phantom and put it on his own site. Maybe even get the rights to a few other older shows (that aren't aired anymore) that would bring in viewers. If it gets decent traffic in 6 months, he should then open it up to indie animation studios or have something like a greenlight system.. to bring new original content. He should focus on what he knows first, which is animation. I also think he should run shows that might be PG-13 as well... I mean the audience he is relying on are his former audience (who are now in their 20s).. might as well have things that might capture a few adults in this age group.
I don’t have much faith in this project. I’m a fan of Danny Phantom, b u t it’s not enough to get me attached to a project which may have empty promises/things he promises that he may never be able to fulfil. I kinda feel like the upload feature is kind of iffy especially and vague (the whole thing is vague, but) like... do people get compensated/monetised any way for that? It would technically only benefit him/his business rather than the person uploading it, if they used advertising as a way of income... Some people put a lot of work into videos and he’d technically be getting free content for his website that you have to pay to use if they didn’t.
While i admit Butch Hartman is a nice guy, as well as talented, and as a kid, ive always loved his distinct art style and i do watch him on RUclips so i can learn from his experience as im attempting to build a career as a cartoonist. And im not afraid to admit it, i used to watch Fairly Oddparents as a kid and i used to have a really good time watching this show, same with Danny Phantom, although i didnt watch alot of it compared to Fairly Oddparents. But, as FOP went on, it started to get worse for being overly loud, annoying, repetative, in your face, and frustratingly mean spirited and i never saw FOP again eversince i stopped watching it in late 2009 during the first quarter of season 7. For Danny Phantom, i got nothing because i havent seen it in ages. But, i would i wouldnt mind giving another shot after all these years. The best i can despite what i've said, I say Butch Hartman is in denial with his own work and refuse to admit that FOP has overstayed its welcome and it's not as good as it used to be.
You know if he said he’ll do his best to buy back the rights to Danny Phantom and FOP and Tuff Puppy and Bunson is a beast. I’m pretty sure he would have reached the goal ASAP
seems a bit odd that for a project of this scope that his name is the only one attached to this thing. I'm guessing he had a difficult time getting venture capital since his proof of concept is essentially non-existent
Bravo! It's just shows. People need a vision and a plan, some light shed on donors to know if this is a good idea or not. Well, I'm actually not interested in this project but I do agree surprises should be avoided when talking about money.
Wow PieGuy, you’re really goin places with these guest discussions this month. You guys made some great points about all this. This campaign worries me. I loved some of Butch’s work as a kid, specifically early Fairly Oddparents and Danny Phantom. TUFF Puppy had some flaws but it was alright. However, his latest show, Bunsen is a Beast was very meh, and FOP post season 8 was terrible. All that aside though, the campaign, and the way Butch is presenting it, just makes me feel uncomfortable. By the way I like that recurring point you both made regarding how a show takes a team to make it good. I will add that Butch has mentioned some of the actors of the shows and had them as guests in his videos, but you’re right, he doesn’t say much about the other show runners, at least not to my knowledge. I understand how you both feel about trying not to sound to harsh about the situation but still wanting to get your point across about how shady this campaign feels. I don’t want to be too hard on Butch either, but I totally get why it’s hard not to. Anyway, this was a tense, but good discussion EyeofSol and PieGuyRulez. Hope each of you are having a good day.
I love how Butch says he created people's childhood Sorry hun, my childhood entertainment was Netflix, Blockbuster, Chris and Martin Kratt, multiple books (and marvel comics), Valve games, and Wii games I didn't watch FOP until I was older, and I just saw the mpreg episode and the dog episode before fucking off out of there The only Nick show I watched when I was little was Avatar, because I frequently visited my friend and we watched it at their house. Love that show.
i love how y'all were talking about 'what is he not getting from the noog network that he plans on getting from oaxis??!' and then it came out he wants to make it a christian streaming service
Honestly, they way it is portrayed, he is pulling what Keiji Inafune pulled with mighty number 9 only on a grander scale. And after that, people arent going to be as easy to trick. I personally dont want to be the downer, but... the way its looking... isnt good.
Well you see, this budget isn't supposed to pay for everything! It's a "phase one" kickstarter, which translates to "we spent all your money and still don't have a product to show you, so give us more." And you feel like you have to give more, because if the second, third, fourth, etc phase of kickstarter fails, then all the money you spent on the prior parts goes to waste. It almost forces the people who gave to the first one to continue giving more and more to keep their investment intact. It's really scummy as a tactic frankly.
Butch Hartman: Which reminds me, I forgot to block the unfamily-friendly stuff- *ghosts appear on Danny Phantom* - BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK
This whole situation is reminding me of the whole Mighty Number 9 fiasco- people supported because they were nostalgic about Mega Man and wanted more Mega Man styled content from the creator, and then the whole thing spiraled into disappointment when the game turned out to be awful. I’m going to say Butch’s Kickstarter is even worse with the vagueness and no promise of ANYTHING like FOP or DP, and I’m willing to bet that if it gets off the ground... well, let’s say it’s likely to be worse than “better than nothing”.
If I remember correctly Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero's kickstarter happened, at the same time (Megaman and Shantae have similar playstyles) and Shantae got less money but was a lot better. A game without its original creator was better than a game that was supposed to a successor, to a game it's creator made.
I've already given my opinion about this on a separate video, and basically all my points are already touched upon in this discussion but I need to add: I did NOT hear about the contest for this until now and agree, it sounds SUPER sketchy! I am becoming thoroughly more jaded by Butch the more I hear about what he's attempting here.
there's one of two things butch can realistically do with the money: 1. produce a pilot and use it to pitch the streaming service/network to investors. 2. use the money as capital to entice investors to build the service/network from the ground up, and produce the shows later. he needs a much bigger source of cash that crowdfunding can't provide. there's no way he doesn't know this, but why he wouldn't disclose this to his backers and fans i do not know.
No LGBT, no illuminati, no swearing (especially goddammit), no devilish imagery. I'm certain of the fourth one because I remember Michael Jackson's mother being angry at him for the imagery in the Thriller video, saying he was, "Praising the devil."
not just that he's openly Christian but that he's openly "born-again" Christian and quotes the Bible in his videos. But yeah I think everyone thinking that "family-friendly" isn't going to mean white Christian and hetero families almost if not entirely exclusively is extremely naive
"People have caught on" *5 years ago* that didn't age well People clearly haven't, considering Disney's nonsense for the last several years, Also yeah Mr. Enter is what makes the content great, the personality makes the youtube content more than anything else usually,
its so egotistical to say i created your childhood. this is a seperate thing but i dont even like the fairly odd parents ( haven't watched danny ) the animation is lazy the plot is terrible anyway whatever
I respect Butch for coming up with Danny Phantom and Fairly Odd Parents but this kickstarter along with reading comments here and watching both this and another video on the whole thing, I'm starting to see why people have a negative impression of him and even start to agree with the criticisms. I've also been saying that he needs to stop with his clickbait stuff as well. As for the kickstarter, we'll have to see where it goes but I agree that it really looks like it's gonna flop.
I really really love the way you guys talk about the Oaxis campaign. Like a few months ago, I heard something about it on facebook. But it was vague sinds here in the Netherlands we dont hear much about overseas tv industries and what not. After seeing this vid and some other vids Pieguyrulz made, I now understand why youtube is full with negetive youtube video titles of butch hartman. I also had to laugh too. Pieguyrulz, you deffinatly crack me up. I thank you both for telling the truth out there. I was really looking up to Butch. After this, I really dont see how I ever could've "trusted him with my childhood". Oh wait, luckely I didnt. Lol. Point is, he should've treated his fans with more respect and dignity. Thank you guys. The only negetive bad thing I have to say about this video you 2 made is: its too short!! I've enjoyed your discussion so much that after the last second of this vid I was like "no!! Is it over already?! Keep it up!!
Actually, in the video where he critiques his own fairly odd parents pilot he mentions hiring more talented writers, designers, etc. So I wouldn't say never.
Thanks for the informative video, I heard about the Oaxsis kickstarter earlier today and I had very big questions - can I really call it that since that phone case company owns the name, I hate to see Butch doing things like this, I love those shows, but based on things he has been doing and saying recently, I sadly say we should NOT hope for more Danny Phantom, and for more proof - check out the failures of the new Teen Titans, the new Power Puff Girls, and the new Ben 10 , hopefully he is humble when this thing fails on July 18th because the Kickstarter said the deadline was on that date
I just realised Oaxis and Butch Hartman reminds me of another nostalgia driven kickstarter: Mighty No 9 Both are very personality driven, vague (Mn9 was clearer, to be fair), irresponsive, and seem to really drive in the 'I'm bringing back this thing that I am related to (and claim to have full-on-created myself)'
So let me get this straight!!!!? It will cost you $10,000 just to get animated Butch Hartman style and supply your own voice? .....and you don't even get final approval on the design or vocal selections they use? Duh Fuq?????? 🤔
I was subscribed to him since the beginning and over time, I felt the way he was talking to his viewers was very condescending and it put me off so much. This kickstarter just amplifies those feelings for me. Yeah I liked DP and FOP but there's only so much I could take. I do not miss being subscribed to him. I understand others will feel differently and that's fine.
I think by now Nick knows people want a DP reboot. I hope they give the IP to someone that deserves it and will do great things with it if they do decided to give it a reboot. Don’t sell it back to Butch. That’s how we got season 3
Great video and and a really important discussion topic, but the entire conversation was very repetitive (especially being an hour long) and I think a regular 10-15 minute colab video might have been a better idea? But at the other time, it's an issue that needs to be talked about "fast" in order to spread information.
I tried to contact Butch in hopes of getting some of my own ideas greenlit lol I thought it was an indie supporting/ first-time animators sort of thing.. But nope.. lol. My great idea he never answered, and a good thing too. He probably would have just passed me off as an "Amateur" despite the fact i been writing for 13+ years lol
Agree with a lot of this, but I’ve seen a lot of people making videos on this spreading false information. Don’t get me wrong he didn’t promise much but he did promise a new animated show called elf detective which he’s been pitching for a few months now I believe. I think Kurotheartist is on the team for that, not sure, I’ll have to fact check that.
He didn't actually promise that. The possibility of Elf Detective being on Oaxis has been largely inferred by fans as far as I can tell. Butch himself never made any statement of that show airing there iirc. That said, I could have missed where he did say that since I don't follow him heavily. I just know for certain that he did not state that anywhere in his kickstarter, be it the promo, video or even the page itself.

I think Butch's time at Nickelodeon has gotten him too accustomed to the idea of pitching a vague idea for a series and having other talented people fill in the blanks once it's officially greenlit.
Huh. Believable thought.
His ideas were never vague though.
Is having a show where a child is neglected by his parents and abused by his babysitter, family friendly?
About as family friendly as a show where a teenage boy fights the living dead and almost gets hunted by his own parents.
Depends on the tone. A lot of family movies have kids dealing with abusive adults. Cinderella, Matilda, Harry Potter...
Toon4Thought He keeps trying to somehow retcon the in show stated canon of Danny Phantom over the years seemingly because it doesn't fit his beliefs
Cinder Ella is a teen, not a kid.
@@MrParkerman6 Beast was 11, is that better for the list?
True but they may not want to come back he could get new writers
He didn't create the entirety of Danny Phantom
He literally gave credit to another person in his recent video
Luna Gale?... you were right about butch. I'm sorry I yelled at you once.
Will you trust me with your future?”
No, I believe that honor goes to Hanna Barbera, Jim Henson, Tom Ruegger Cartoon Network, Arlene Klasky, Gabor Csupo, Paul Germain, Craig McCracken, Peter Hanna, Lauren Faust, Genndy Tartakovsky, Bob Clampett, Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Stephen Hillenburg, Bob Camp, Joe Murray, Danny Antonucci and of course, Steve Marmel.
Don’t forget Walt Disney.
Stan Lee?
Oh wait
Don't forget Rob Renzetti too dude.
47Cartoonguy Charles M. Schulz?
That slogan was from a thank you letter from one of his employees
Yeah!
THANK YOU for giving Mr. Enter the credit he deserves. C8
Do you have a link to Mr. Enter's stuff?
The ironic thing is is that if he just straight-up said, "I'm gonna make a 'No Queers Allowed' family streaming service" and went for the Fox News type audience instead of doubling down on making vague as hell promises of a "family-friendly" streaming service to his chronically broke and childless fanbase that he used to make cartoons for, he'd have been 100% funded *yesterday*.
Gwendolyn Stata That is depressingly accurate
Why does the joke of Butch saying "I'm Butch Hartman" remind me of the Spongebob Movie of Mr. Krabs saying, "Hello, I like money."
Reporter: "Why create Oaxis?"
Butch: "Hello, I'm Butch Hartman."
PieGuy should just open EVERY VIDEO EVER with this quote.
Wow ... Daddy Derek huh ? Its been years since hes been relevant
Daddy Butch
When Butch Hartman left Nickelodeon, I had to tell my mom because he was my idol growing up. I explained, "He left Nickelodeon to become a full time RUclips creator, lol."
He didn't leave Nick, he was kicked out.
I told my mom that too.
When you guys started talking about animal violence on Planet Earth, all I could think of was the FOP episode where Chester and AJ get into a fight just before the Crimson Chin/Crash Nebula crossover event, and AJ's dad blocks the animal violence on TV.
The show has a lot of scenes that are perfect analogies for this plan TBH.
I know what I saw!"
I used to think that he had just forgotten some of the details regarding the lore because it has been a long time since he worked on the show, but he keeps pushing that narrative and it makes me think that he's actively trying to retcon his own show because of his new born-again "family friendly" worldview.
*BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK*
Ryan1231 I can say he hide/shadow deleted my comment that literally was pointing out his retcon nature of Danny Phantom and it was worded very politely I even brought up other contradictions he made in his shows and statements , so I bet he is trying to retcon it do to his beliefs and hiding comments that point it out
Yup. More than half of the ghost are dead people, and or entire cities and kingdoms genocide outta of existence.
What's the bet that the winner of the contest is just going to get a cell of Cosmo's arm

Simpsons did it! Simpsons did it!
I agree with the whole Butch Hartman didn't create everything thing. My mentor Stephen Silver did a lot and I mean A LOT of character design work for FOP and Danny Phantom and I never heard Butch giving Silver any credit or acknowledgement whatsoever.
I think he referenced him a few times
Video or it didn't happen.
Unfortunately, this kickstarter may be the failure that Butch needs for him to realize that.
wanderingent Hubris, Butch suffers from *hubris*.
He didn't blame Nick for those characters. He is simply stating a fact that they were Nick' s Idea, which they were.
He actually stole the “created your childhood” tag lines from one of his fans lol
To be fair he worked on johnny bravo
A man who created 4 TV shows (2 went downhill, 2 got cancelled) and he expects people to back this unrealistic project? I'm sorry, but Kickstarters always make me skeptical
Gnarwhal 1 got cancelled 5 TIMES
@Winter Ice season 3 sucked ass
Most shounen shows/manga are labeled "family friendly" yet aren't seen as such in the west (like the United States for example).
Dave102693 I still can't believe Dragon Ball Super is TV-14 over in
the West. The Manga is also Rated Teen yet it's way tamer than the
"A For all Ages" DBZ Manga.
"Family Friendly" CAN'T be defined, CUZ it is COMPLETELY Subjective.
So I listened to Butch's podcast (if you're interested the relevant stuff starts about halfway through at 20:00 minute mark, you can find it on soundcloud) about Oaxis and there are some things that I think people don't know he's clarified and talked about (though it doesn't help the case much)
1. He said he and his wife have thought about this for a while so it doesn't seem (?) like an abrupt idea
2. He said that the main reason the kickstarter was made was because he went to investers, they asked if he had a social media presence (probably to know if he has an audience) and he said he had about a million followers on all platforms and they said that he should start a kickstarter. *TLDR; it seems to be an attempt to attract/assure venture capital*
3. He briefly mentioned the noog network and echoed the question about why he would make a new network when he has that one, but from what I've heard he didn't really address the issue
4. He does seem aware that Oaxis is basically the G rated version of Netflix and calls it that himself saying something along the lines of 'it's the same thing but we will do it on a much bigger level and we'll centre on it'' which i'm assuming he means the entire network will be focused on that instead of it being a side thing (which i'm not sure makes much of a huge selling point) and that the uploadable content will be monitered by humans called 'Mama and Papa' bears who he said would likely be parents/stay at home parents
5. He said the kickstarted money would go to
-building the platform digitally and making some content (around 80%)
-he said he wanted it to be LIVE about a year from now, 2019 (????)
6. Phase 2 after the first kickstarted stuff is the RUclips uploadable thing, basically he said it would be the family friendly version of RUclips shows on his platform
7. Apparently lots of new shows
8. When asked where he thinks Oaxis will be in five years, he said he thought it would be one of the premier streaming platforms mathcing netflix (!!!) and though he seemed to have the foresight to see that that might sound arrogant (which he said) he thought it was just 'confident'.
9. In terms of acquiring content he said that he would acquire libraries of content that fit their model
Sounds like he's setting up himself for massive failure.
All of those points make me have 0% more confidence on this project, they just show how truly blind he is.
Butch is a conservative. Have you seen what Twitter users he follow online?
Of course? Unlike Tara Strong. *BUTCH DOES NOT USE POLITICS ON HIS SOCIAL MEDIA SITES WHEN TALKING ABOUT CARTOONS!*
lol
Also, 4Kids is an old school dubbing company?
He seemed to laugh off the knowledge that there's a lot of weird fan art of his content.
Gaming Master Anthony No one has gone insane. From what I read he just stated what Hartman did.
Kristin Norman you make too much sense, which is why Butch would never listen to you.
Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen PieGuy get this worked up before. For good reason, though, this whole kickstarter is ridiculous
Speaking of the Fun Box, this also kinda reminds me of that FOP episode where Timmy's dad was a dictator and wanted everybody to be happy, and negativity wasn't allowed. :0
LexiatheCat Hmmm maybe he was trying to tell us something
58:50 John Kricfalusi actually did make a kickstarter of his own years ago, to fund a single cartoon. Granted, that campaign IIRC wasn't nearly as vague or as much of an ego trip as Butch's, but he still did it. And what happened was that his cartoon did get funded and was slated to come out in February 2013... and it never came out in a completed state, at least publicly.
Yeah, many people were already done with him long before the sexual allegations came out.
It's just people making animations for your entertainment. You'd expect to them be normal people....
Brandon Roberts He really is...
Oh, I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for pointing that out!
Well I wouldn't blame you tbh. I only heard of it in sparse details anyway
Dave102693 Actually, it succeeded; it's just that John straight up didn't deliver what he promised.
anyone think its weird how butch hartman keeps talking about reconnecting the family during pride month??
yoi I do
I would like to think that's just a coincidence.
Maxwell Shapiro it's sad because true.
Toon4Thought ay I follow u on Twitter!
What real investor goes through Kickstarter?
Dad, is that you?
Fun box, oh fun box, small and square and dark. Fun box, oh fun box, check out these neat fun locks!
Family Friendly entertainment reminds me of the Family Values from the 80’s. (shivering)
The ultimate crossover. Mr. Enter pitches Growing Around to Oaxis.
Oh god please no don’t
hereonly2comment i like Mr. Enter, he's cool and he actually has a plan
Im getting some serious Mighty number 9 and Keiji Inafune vibes from all this, maybe thats either too harsh considering how little we know about this, but then again at least Mighty Number 9 told you their plan and details from the word go
Except the part where the game sucked.
LOL I had this same comparison. Basically veteran decides to strike out on their own and banks on their past accomplishments to get some money. Then crashes and burns later, disappointing at best, nothing comes out at worse. At the least though MN9 had a better list of tangible rewards.
I am definitely not interested in his Oaxis plan... I grew up on Butch’s shows but honestly it doesn’t seem like a very good plan.
It's an idea that thinks it's a plan.
SenorMateo he has 12 % of a plan, that's barely a concept
No Clue why not?
12 percent? That's being quite generous.
Yez PieGuyRulz and EyeofSol collab! It must be my birthday... :,)
He could make new content like Tuff Godparents, Danny Puppy, and Fairly Phantom.
Fairly Phantom sounds like one of those Netflix shows.
That isn't "trying" that's succeeding, succeeding at scamming.
Butch Hartmann is like Catman. He just doesn't realise that his time is over and that he never was a superhero. xD
That’s an insult to Eric Cartman
Butch is like Mayor Shelbourne from "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs"
Timmy Turner is an annoying dumb egotistical and hyperactive version of Flint Lockwood
I used to like Butch, but now I see him for the fraud he is.
TheApoke That’s really harsh lol. Not saying he doesn’t deserve criticism, but he does have some good qualities.
TheApoke I wouldn't call Butch Hartman a fraud but he is out of touch with reality.
He's making a vaguely religious, nostalgia-guided cult??? ..lol
That's kinda ironic
Praise be to Hartman!
Praise the -man! heh
I dont know what you think of him, but Butch has a holier than thou vibe to him a lot of the time to me especially with his twitter.
I like Straight Sol, she doesn’t buy into anyone’s bull crap😆. I like Butch Hartman to but this campaign he started had me feeling iffy right after seeing that first ad for Oaxis he did.😄
“The overall value is the sum of it’s parts”
Not the one most successful of them.
Lol.
Ada wong which shows he shouldn't have even called them ghosts in the first place then and just had the show be completely different from the start by making it about monsters or the like instead , which also shows how ignorant/stupid he is in hindsight in ideal making even back then
ALSO I must point out he at varies times pushed the ''ghosts aren't ghostes in Danny phantom narrative''' so he has worded it different at different times
I almost feel sorry for the guy. He should do like RT and start a studio instead. Then he could go to VRV after five years, lol.
He ALWAYS says that. He thinks you can't critize for something you haven't done yourself.
She sounds like Sam from Icarly
Vonny V wow.... I can't unhear this now... X'D
No, she sounds like Marzgurl.
When a RUclips review is more likely to make a show then a professional making a streaming service
WOW...I had a feeling Pieguy had been holding back with some of his opinions on Butch, and it sure came out here. Very good and entertaining discussion!
let give the man who attached his name to doogal a quarter of a million dollars everybody. in no way this cannot end well.
58:54 That is hilarious in hindsight given what his finished Kickstarter project just amounted to.
Good god, Butch's politics is 1984 levels of emptiness and one sided.
You could say he's trying to take over the world with smiles.
Good information and strong points. I've subbed to you both!
Dp fanbase was pretty much a cult
Witch is why i got the hell out
The dynamic you two have is really refreshing.
I would love to see more video colabs between you two
seems a bit odd that for a project of this scope that his name is the only one attached to this thing.
I love how Butch says he created people's childhood
Sorry hun, my childhood entertainment was Netflix, Blockbuster, Chris and Martin Kratt, multiple books (and marvel comics), Valve games, and Wii games
I didn't watch FOP until I was older, and I just saw the mpreg episode and the dog episode before fucking off out of there
The only Nick show I watched when I was little was Avatar, because I frequently visited my friend and we watched it at their house. Love that show.
i love how y'all were talking about 'what is he not getting from the noog network that he plans on getting from oaxis??!' and then it came out he wants to make it a christian streaming service
Not to sound negative but. It’s gona frikin bomb
Honestly this Kickstarter would have a better chance at succeeding if he had named it “Help Prove Butch Hartman is Great.”
Butch Hartman: Which reminds me, I forgot to block the unfamily-friendly stuff-
*ghosts appear on Danny Phantom* - BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK
I am becoming thoroughly more jaded by Butch the more I hear about what he's attempting here.
there's one of two things butch can realistically do with the money:
1. produce a pilot and use it to pitch the streaming service/network to investors.
2. use the money as capital to entice investors to build the service/network from the ground up, and produce the shows later.
he needs a much bigger source of cash that crowdfunding can't provide. there's no way he doesn't know this, but why he wouldn't disclose this to his backers and fans i do not know.
He's super rich, dummy. He doesn't even need the quarter million in the first place.
butch did a your oaxis questions answered video that was only 2 minutes long and gave no real answers just more vague statements
you sound kinda like sam pukett and I love that
I wonder how much religion taps into his definition of "family friendly", considering he's openly Christian.
He has another streaming network, but I never bothered working at it.
It's not Android compatible either.
swarlock the thing is he could of fixed it.
The first show in the service is a gardening show, of course!
Butch making a kickstarter...
Das tuff.
"People have caught on"
*5 years ago* that didn't age well
People clearly haven't, considering Disney's nonsense for the last several years,
Also yeah Mr. Enter is what makes the content great, the personality makes the youtube content more than anything else usually,
49:21 XD That laugh
its so egotistical to say i created your childhood. this is a seperate thing but i dont even like the fairly odd parents ( haven't watched danny ) the animation is lazy the plot is terrible anyway whatever
The animation isn't lazy, it's a stylistic choice. A weird one, but never the less......
39:43 look mom im on tv
This is like, a very good discussion. Great points/opinions, Butch Hartman or not.
He made a response video could you two make a video on how feel about his response to questions on his kickstarter
"No one thing is every great because of one person!"
*Cough* Charles Schulz *Cough*
I just realised Oaxis and Butch Hartman reminds me of another nostalgia driven kickstarter: Mighty No 9
Both are very personality driven, vague (Mn9 was clearer, to be fair), irresponsive, and seem to really drive in the 'I'm bringing back this thing that I am related to (and claim to have full-on-created myself)'
I what does he mean by family-friendly shows G and PG became closer and closer so what does he mean
Xthe Man here in Brazil, nudity is considered G and woody woodpecker is PG
Subscribed because of mr enter if you are not familiar with me, remember,
"Is spongebob the simpsons?"
EyeofSol sounds a lot like Marzgurl
Amateur means you don't get regualrly paid for something. Professional means you regularly do. Neither has anything to do with experience or talent.
Fair enough, but then why isn't that information on the Kickstarter page? Don't you think that would be important to tell your potential donators?
He didn't actually promise that. The possibility of Elf Detective being on Oaxis has been largely inferred by fans as far as I can tell. Butch himself never made any statement of that show airing there iirc. That said, I could have missed where he did say that since I don't follow him heavily. I just know for certain that he did not state that anywhere in his kickstarter, be it the promo, video or even the page itself.
