At a Christian college learning about animation before I backed out. My professor gave me this piece of knowledge: “People don’t want to be preached at when they watch cartoons. They want to hear good stories.” Just because you’re a Christian doesn’t mean you have to push Christian content. Pete Doctor(big name guy at Pixar) is a Christian, and even He admits that He doesn’t feel the need to insert his beliefs into content he makes. And the movies he made still taught good values. I like Butch, and as much as I found it cool that He’s a a Christian...He’s really not going about what He wants to do the right way.
Sorry, to disagree but all writers insert their beliefs when writing a story it's outright impossible not to do. What matters is how the belief is implemented, also as a Christian their is nothing wrong with putting your beliefs in a work of fiction (atheist do the same thing).
Brandon Ontama i get your point, but it is possible for a writer to make a good story without throwing their beliefs into it. For instance, i’ve seen fanfic riders cringingly doing stuff like making straight characters lgbt, or gender aside, rewriting characters to the point of being unrecognizable. It’s possible to not throw your personal beliefs into your writing if the story calls for it. It’s like Vic Mignogna playing an atheist. He’s a devout Christian irl, but he doesn’t downplay or try to pretend his character Edward Elric is a Christian.
I agree that people don't want to be preached at when they watch cartoons, BUT I still think inserting your beliefs can still be done without it coming across as preachy. Heck, showing your moral beliefs is essential to making a good story. But you need to do it in a way that doesn't feel forced or cringey, but rather make it under the surface, and displayed through the story itself instead of the dialogue. If you tell a good story, people won't mind that you're showing them what you think is morally right. In fact, it makes the experience better, and more fulfilling.
Brandon Ontama you can insert values in a story line, even a little bit of yourself but he has a point. I’ve never once walked away from a Pixar movie thinking “I felt they were pushing christianity on me there”. Writers can insert multiple personal experiences but also make them told from a 3rd person perspective so well, you don’t feel pressed to go with. Your pov is pretty one sided.

In the UK Fairly Odd Parents and Danny Phantom aired on the BBC. Specifically during a show called "Dick & Dom inda Bungalow". A show that prior to getting the rights to those shows, was already in trouble almost weekly for having offensive content (for instance one of the presenters wore a t-shirt with "Morning Wood" written on it and this happened before they got the rights) I've spoke to people involved in making that show, they had to send footage of the show to Nickelodeon, and as executive producer Butch himself had to sign off on allowing them the rights to show it. So Butch was completely fine on allowing that show to air FOP and DP. He took the money back then.

Literally -- on one of his very first videos when he started his channel. Now he's actually doing it! Whether or not i influenced him a bit, i'm glad its a dream come true! He even replied to me several times, including bringing up elf detective before he officially announced it!
Hm...in my opinion I think you're vilifying his actions a bit by portraying his intentions in the worst possible light. You can't say exactly what was going through his mind and what he was thinking. Not to excuse his lying about his what he meant to do with the money, he should have been more clear about it being a partially Christian service and everything else, but he never forced people to give money to it. All his ways of asking for money just sounds like normal things for people trying to get funds though crowd sourcing. Young kids are not so likely to be influenced by him since his cartoons are no longer current, and very few parents just allow their kids to spend money wherever online, so most would have parent permission to donate. Teenagers who actually experienced the show are old enough to decide for themselves whether it's a worthy cause. Just because you’re a Christian doesn’t mean you have to push Christian content. Pete Doctor(big name guy at Pixar) is a Christian, and even He admits that He doesn’t feel the need to insert his beliefs into content he makes. And the movies he made still taught good values.

Sorry, to disagree but all writers insert their beliefs when writing a story it's outright impossible not to do. What matters is how the belief is implemented, also as a Christian their is nothing wrong with putting your beliefs in a work of fiction (atheist do the same thing).
Brandon Ontama i get your point, but it is possible for a writer to make a good story without throwing their beliefs into it. For instance, i’ve seen fanfic riders cringingly doing stuff like making straight characters lgbt, or gender aside, rewriting characters to the point of being unrecognizable. It’s possible to not throw your personal beliefs into your writing if the story calls for it.
It’s like Vic Mignogna playing an atheist. He’s a devout Christian irl, but he doesn’t downplay or try to pretend his character Edward Elric is a Christian.
I agree that people don't want to be preached at when they watch cartoons, BUT I still think inserting your beliefs can still be done without it coming across as preachy. Heck, showing your moral beliefs is essential to making a good story. But you need to do it in a way that doesn't feel forced or cringey, but rather make it under the surface, and displayed through the story itself instead of the dialogue. If you tell a good story, people won't mind that you're showing them what you think is morally right. In fact, it makes the experience better, and more fulfilling.

Brandon Ontama you can insert values in a story line, even a little bit of yourself but he has a point. I’ve never once walked away from a Pixar movie thinking “I felt they were pushing christianity on me there”. Writers can insert multiple personal experiences but also make them told from a 3rd person perspective so well, you don’t feel pressed to go with. Your pov is pretty one sided.

A show that prior to getting the rights to those shows, was already in trouble almost weekly for having offensive content (for instance one of the presenters wore a t-shirt with "Morning Wood" written on it and this happened before they got the rights) I've spoke to people involved in making that show, they had to send footage of the show to Nickelodeon, and as executive producer Butch himself had to sign off on allowing them the rights to show it. So Butch was completely fine on allowing that show to air FOP and DP. He took the money back then.

Just because he's wants to give a platform to Christians doesn't mean he's trying to trick people into supporting Christian content. If he wanted to give a platform to Buddhist or Muslims would you have been as upset? It sounds like you just don't like Christianity.
Eternity in Our Hearts No people already knew he was religious, what people didn’t know was that he was planning on incorporating that into Oaxis, what people have a problem with is that he wasn’t upfront with his intentions with Oaxis. And not telling people that it was going to be religious when he asked them to give him money for it is deceitful and in a way tricking people since they didn’t actually know it was going to be Christian focused content when they gave him their money, no one hates Christianity in general heck I’m a Christian just that he wasn’t upfront with us.

Yeah that's exactly what he did. He's trying to spread his dumb Christian beliefs under the radar to kids who would watch whatever content was uploaded and he chose not to say from the beginning what his true intentions were so he could get more donations. That's fraud and deceit. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't like if the same thing happened to his kids when they were young and the kicksrarter was secretly aimed to spread atheism. If butch had said from the beginning what exactly he wanted then nobody would've cared because then people would know what they were actually donating to. It would've gotten hate if it was spreading any other religion as well

Dude, i actually put out an entire paragraph ect as a recommendation for him to start his own channel, with it being kickstarted by his fans. Literally -- on one of his very first videos when he started his channel. Now he's actually doing it! Whether or not i influenced him a bit, i'm glad its a dream come true! He even replied to me several times, including bringing up elf detective before he officially announced it!

Hm...in my opinion I think you're vilifying his actions a bit by portraying his intentions in the worst possible light. You can't say exactly what was going through his mind and what he was thinking. Not to excuse his lying about his what he meant to do with the money, he should have been more clear about it being a partially Christian service and everything else, but he never forced people to give money to it. All his ways of asking for money just sounds like normal things for people trying to get funds though crowd sourcing. Young kids are not so likely to be influenced by him since his cartoons are no longer current, and very few parents just allow their kids to spend money wherever online, so most would have parent permission to donate. Teenagers who actually experienced the show are old enough to decide for themselves whether it's a worthy cause. Not saying that everyone is wrong for being mad, but just that you're overreacting a bit. It's not like he was blackmailing people into giving his money to buy himself another house.

well... kinda. i mean he is lieing to KIDS i rember when i started spending money online (meaning i may be a little biased) i used save up all my money from school for several weeks just to donate to this kind of shady stuff, at the end nothing good ever came out of it, and most of the time people like him would just keep the money for themselfs saying they had to "cancel" the proyect or that not enough money was given so they couldn't afford it.
kids are REALLY gulible and most parents just give money to kids just to shut 'em up, for a while.

Honestly, I like Butch Hartman (not like that). He’s like a kind dude you can trust. I think if he would’ve given people a more clear description on what oaxis will be like, he wouldn’t be getting that much hate. A possibility that case to me is that this would be a app and you have to pay for a subscription, and get some episodes for free.
They say never judge a book by it's cover but i can usually trust my gut when it comes to reading a persons personality by looking at them. I don't know much about Butch besides his previous work but the moment i saw his face and additionally found out he had a youtube channel i kinda figured something like this would happen
