- Exposed: The Fake Work from Home Job Scam That's Costing People Thousands
In this video, I'm exposing a dangerous work from home job scam that's costing people thousands of dollars. The scam involves a "company" that sends job seekers a check to cash so they can purchase equipment for their supposed work from home job. However, the check is always for more than the equipment costs, and the company asks the job seeker to send back the excess money. Once the bank clears the check, the job seeker is on the hook for paying back the full amount - even though the check was fake.
I'll explain how this scam works, how to spot it, and what to do if you've already fallen victim to it. I'll also share some tips for finding legitimate work from home jobs and avoiding scams like this in the future. Don't let yourself become the next victim of this dangerous scam - watch this video to learn how to protect yourself and your finances.
If you found this video helpful, please give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends and family to help spread the word about this scam. And if you have any questions or comments, please leave them below - I'd love to hear from you!

Wow!!! Thank you for sharing. Even though I have worked with legitimate remote positions in the past; I am thankful still for sites like yours alerting us of scams. They thought they could scam me about the check thing and equipment recently, but when I ask questions they stop. Thank you! 😃 Note: Some fake ones on Signal messenger and LinkedIn too.
@@nataliefocusednyah Thank you, Natalie!! I remind myself all the time that scammers get smarter everyday, so I can't get complacent with verifying all these leads. Some scammers are probably watching right now trying to figure out how to improve. We gotta stay a step ahead!! Thanks for stopping by! 🤗
@@DelilahBell
We appreciate you! Also what about the ads for government subsidies for $6400 and $1400?
I haven't seen those, so I can't say. If it seems too good to be true, it may be a scam. Or, it's being advertised easier than it actually is. No one's giving out money for free... I wish! 😅
@@DelilahBell any tips to get the bank to recognize it as a scam? It’s now debt for me
Delilah it’s happening everyday to me. My red flag is bank info before you even meet a person. Texts also come in saying I saw your resume on INDEED! I block
Everyday?! Scammers need to be ashamed of themselves. I'm glad you're not falling for it!
🎯
I closed all my accts with Indeed,Ziprecruiter, Glassdoor. I stopped all alerts and spammed any other emails.
Make sure you are reporting them to the FTC
The red flag was an interview on Skype or Whatsapp. No one should be asking for personal info. I agree with everything you're saying. I hate this is happening to innocent ppl.
Once I get the "something in the milk ain't clean" feeling, I steer clear! Thanks for stopping by, Kisha! 💚
Thanks for making this video and for the tips, Delilah. I was once almost a victim of this type of scam a few years ago and I thought I was the type who would never fall for something like this, so it can happen to anyone who is not careful. Be diligent, folks!
You're welcome! And thank you for saying that! It can happen to ANYONE. We always have to be vigilant online, especially because scammers come up with new ways to get over on folks.
A red flag for is high pay like $60 an hour for data entry. Also do THOROUGH research on company verbiage. Example, scammers are copying and pasting real info from legit companies to their fake website.
Yes!!! High pay data entry jobs are almost always fake. Most data entry jobs pay $10-$20 per hour because they're usually very easy jobs. It's a BIG red flag if the pay is high and the job is easy. 💚
You are so thoughtful, intelligent and helpful to people everywhere. Thank you
Thank you, Diana!!💚 Just trying to share some news folks can use. I don't want anyone to get scammed! it's no fun
Definitely appreciate you taking the time to address the WFH security issues we're facing.
You’re welcome, Joan! Thank you for stopping by! 💚
Thank you for making more people aware of this Delilah.
Hey Nikki! Just trying to expose these raggedy scammers lol. Thanks for stopping by! 🤗
I am glad you posted this ❤. The schemes and scammers occur all the time now. I catch 1 or two per week and report them.
You said something people forget or don’t think of doing report them! I’ve done this when I get erroneous emails asking for money and phishing emails. There are ways to do it that are not difficult to do. It’s worth it because the Feds do look into it to alert others and to prosecute. Thx for sharing!
Thank you! & it's crazy hearing how often everyone's dealing with scammers. I was thinking most folks ran into a scammer here or there - not every day/week!! Good for reporting them!
This is a great video! My husband almost fell for the Whatsapp job scam. My youngest son was scammed with that check scam last year in November. WHAT A MESS!!😞
Thank you!! I'm sorry to hear they got your baby. I'd be more upset if they got my son than if they got me because I don't play about my child!! It is a mess and I hope these job websites figure out a way to cut down/eliminate the scams. We have robots like chatgpt that can write essays; I think we have the tech to only include verified jobs and links!
Thanks for keeping us up to date!
You're welcome, Sharon!! :)
Thanks for the heads up 👍🏾
You're welcome!! :)
Thank you for doing one on this! ❤❤❤
You're welcome, Latisha!! I hope it was helpful! 💚🤗
Thank for sharing!! I unfortunately fell for one just like you said!! It was a costly mistake!!
Oh, no! I'm sorry that happened, Trish! What made you realize it was a scam?
I've almost been scammed twice so far. The first was a money launderer who wanted me to set up an ACH account and sent paper money to people (themselves, obviously) and do Bitcoin, etc. At the time I had never heard of job scams, and so I almost fell for it. So glad I caught on. The second one was laughably inept at scamming. But another red flag is they ask you to 'kindly' do something. If they have a thick Indian accent with a 'English' name--that's another, and when they call themselves 'Mrs' so-and-so. Chew them out for being thieving scammers and then block them. Or better yet, lead them on for as long as possible. Waste their time, so that at least they're not scamming someone else for a while. Drive them crazy, ruin their day and then merrily block them.
Thanks so much for this video! It is a reminder to do our due diligence and not be desperate. I’ve never been scammed but I have been aware and noticed erroneous email addresses. As a practice I do go and very there company on the web or LinkedIn. Your BIGGEST TIP : you are not safe on any website so take precaution! And trust your gut!! Safe job hunting everyone! 🙏🏽😊
You're welcome & thanks for watching. I'm reminding myself to stay vigilant! Yes, scammers are working hard to deceive us, so we have to stay on our toes!! 💚😊
Delilah I had scammer scammed me already thank you for these tips for online employment.
Sorry to hear that!! That's sad. I hope they get caught! Thank you; I'm glad these tips were helpful. 🤗💚
Definitely can't remind people too much about these scammers out here. They are everywhere.
I have a question. You mentioned if a recruiter doesn't have LinkedIn, the job isn't real. Does this go for HR managers too? I came across a job posting and the company doesn't have a LinkedIn page and the HR manager doesn't have a LinkedIn page either. The HR manager claims that they've been around for 15 years....but I'm not sure how I feel about it.
My thoughts are to not move forward. LinkedIn is the standard and has been that way for a long time. They claim to have been around for 15 years and haven't created a LinkedIn account... It's 2023. That's not acceptable! Every company should have one, and all the companies I've ever shared on this channel have one.
@@DelilahBell Thank you Delilah! You brought up valid points , so I'm not gonna move forward with that company. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day! :)
You're welcome! Thank you & enjoy your day as well :)
I’m just wondering… did this company have a webpage? Or any valid information that you could find?
@@1preciouspamm Yeah, they had a website. It tells about their services and a couple of paragraphs under the "About Us" tab. But there are no testimonials, no "How we got started" page, no information about employers/founders, etc.
The site claims they have experience with companies such as a t & t and v e r i z o n , but I don't know if I can really trust the website. I tried to do an internet search to see if I could pull up more info, but it's just the website that comes up.
Thank you so much.
You’re welcome, Debra! :)
Thank you so much! 😊
You're very welcome!! 😊
Thank you Delilia.

@@DelilahBell thanks!
you're welcome! @@Rhianauniversity
I was a person who was scammed. I deposited the check in my account so I could buy equipments and my bank closed my account. Even though I gave them all our text messages, they didn't want to deal with it.
Wow! Sorry to hear that, Donna. Yes, the banks don't care to deal with it. Some banks will do an investigation. But this happens so often, and sometimes the scam is really on the bank! So, many banks just don't want to deal with any of it, and will shut the account.
@@DelilahBell I really want an evening work from home job, but since then, I've been skeptical of applying again
I get fake scammers posing as Recruiters all the time, its SAD! Thank God I know what to look for.
Glad you know what's to watch out for, Danielle! You're on your a-game. We all have to be against these scammers!!
I experience the same thing but I had a interview on MS Teams and after the whole interview was done by chat, I was told I was hired. Right there that was a major red flag. Then asked for my address and stated that they were going to send all the equipment that was needed to work with them but instead the next day I received a express ups envelope with a check of over $8000. So that confirmed even more of it being a scam. 😢All that time wasted when I was really in need of a job... be careful beware ❤
Immediate hiring after the interview - yes, HUGE red flag. So sorry they wasted your time, but at least you know what to look out for and didn't get scammed. I hope you can get hired from the many legit wfh jobs available. I share wfh jobs every weekday for this very reason so folks have something real they can apply to. Keep applying and you'll get hired! 💚
The Scammers are even on Microsoft Teams too.
Yes! My daughter was contacted about a job, and they did the interview through Microsoft Teams. Come to find out it was a scam.
True - they're everywhere, unfortunately! But if someone says Whatsapp or Telegram, don't even entertain them.
Ugh! Sorry to hear someone tried to scam your daughter. 😩
I am a VA do you ever come into contact with anyone needing a Virtual Assistant?
You could try joining FB groups for entrepreneurs and get clients that way. Also, Fiverr and Upwork are good places to try. And search the Mega List of Jobs on my website for "Virtual Assistant" and you'll see a few companies on there. 👍🏾
I just got one while watching the video ❤️❤️❤️
No way!! I'm glad I posted this when I did! 💚
God sent me with you, I was about to get scammed today with this thing 😂, you saved me. I wanted to know how they would scam me, now I know what they wanted to get from me. That k you so much❤❤❤
I’ve actually had someone email me with a teams link. The pay seemed a bit too good to be true. So before clicking the link i went to the website. I also noticed grammatical errors and the email address didn’t match the company.
You go, Karyn! You didn’t ignore those red flags!! 😊👏🏾💚
I got a job interview from conduent remotely and they are doing the interview on Microsoft teams.
Does it seem right? Also if anyone knows anything about that company
What happens to the social security and names that I provided on this scammer?
Just got "hired" for a wfh via teams today. I have done my due diligence and everything seems "legit". Company has an online presence. The email seems to be a work email and they have several people listed as working for them on Linkedin. The recruiter I spoke to is listed on the website as executive director of HR and has a linked in account stating the same.Everything seems official but I am sketched out because they emailed me a check to purchase equipment. I haven't done anything with it. How should I proceed?
If you think something isn't right, you're probably right! What's the name of the company?
@@DelilahBell they were posing as someone from WEBMD Ignite
They almost got me ..with this when they sent me the bogus check to cash for equipment
Bogus is the right word! lol Shame on these scammers. Glad you caught it before cashing the check. :)
Also signal app.
That's a new one to me. I just looked them up, and I can see scammers hanging out there just like Whatsapp and Telegram.
I was following a facebook job page and I saw some scam post and I unfollow the page 🙏
I Stopped using these sites 😢 for this reason.
Hey Nancy! I recommend using job websites to guide your job search, but apply directly via their website. I use all the websites mentioned to see what jobs just came out, but then I immediately go to their careers page. 👍🏾
@@DelilahBell yes I was lucky enough to find these types of videos and I have learned so much. Thank you for all your info.
CALL the company and see if the person or job is real.
My friend was almost scammed and we were the 6th confirmation call to the company that day.
Very smart!! 💚👍🏾😊
Is it normal for a recruiter on LinkedIn to not have a photo on their account?
No! Not normal. Everyone has a phone attached to their hands these days. They could take a pic and upload it in less than 60 seconds.
Like and share
Thank you, Karima! 💚🤗
@@DelilahBell welcome
I caught a scammer when I was trying to move into another house from where I was. The house pictures were nice. Once he asked me to send him funds from a gift card, I told him no and immediately hung up. He kept calling, and I blocked him.
Scammers are wild! Pay rent with a gift card?! lol I'm dealing with some right now that keep trying me via text. Someone is pretending to be my bank and sending links for me to click on. Nope!
@DelilahBell They really are, and they don't care about the innocent people they're targeting.
They sure don't care! We have to stay prayed up and vigilant! 💚
