Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I recently removed the tiller handle bracket and messed up the shifting pretty good. Not even the repair manual talks about it to the depth that you have. Subscriber earned.
I was given a 1972 9.5 hp Johnson outboard, and one of the things that needed repairing/adjustment was the throttle setting. I could not believe that I found this video! T-Mike did an outstanding job of describing and clearly videoing the process to set the the throttle. Thank you...thank you... thank you!
Great description. Did you do one about the 9.5 where you have to replace old fuel hose to the connector? I had to remove the whole tiller and even then the connector tube appears to hit the housing
T-Mike, thanks for the video. I have a 1969 Evinrude 9.5. I have new gear and shaft coming in the mail as there was not one within the tiller handle when I received it. Can you give me advise on the best way for me to install the gear and shaft, trying to get the gear in the right spot on the rack and link? I can’t exactly use the t-mike trick as I have the throttle handle off and of course it’s not marked, currently waiting for my gear and shaft to arrive. Thanks
T-Mike, I really enjoy watching all your video's. I have learned alot. I have a motor that's very similiar. The problem i'm having is the throttle is very stiff and it only moves about an inch or so. I can doublecheck the linkage but does this also need to be regreased? Thanks in advance.
@@michaeljsimon WOW, that was a fast reply. I'm new to these little engines. I'll check under the hood and see what I find. Is there any grease or lubication needed in the throttle handle? Again. Thanks in advance.
Great video! Thanks! I am working on a 1987 9.9 evinrude that feels like the part that rotates at the armature plate needs some lubricant but I don’t know how to get to it. Do I need to remove the flywheel to lube it so the plate that holds the cam throttle control? Thanks!
So glad I found this video! The linkage setup is odd on these motors & I wasn't sure mine was synchronized. Mine ('71) lines up exactly as yours but the grip will not turn past SLOW to STOP. Is it supposed to?
I found out it's normal. The low speed adjustment on the side of the tiller handle "limits" the rotation of the grip and has enough range to keep it from going past SLOW.
Thanks for that.. but my problem is the 'neutral' is so short and hard to find when running.. clunking forward/reverse trying to get a neutral . The only thing I ever did was removed the lower leg (water pump) and it seemed to be relocated properly, as it was hard with very little space to get a narrow deep socket to fit in there. Is there another adjustment somewhere near the upper area to make adjustment ? I dont want anything to break.. I be real screwed, then. Thank you
Mike, how do I set linkage when I don’t know where to start. The handle broke, the shaft and gear bent and disengaged the rack. I fixed handle and straighten shaft but don’t know how to set it up. Thanks
Well the throttle control calibration technique worked well. The thing is, something else weird happened, we had the engine running before, for a almost an hr, in a barrel, before. the other day the double connector fuel line was on backwards, for a bit. Would the suction of the squeezy bulb, cause damage to something in the fuel pump or carb, because now the carb not getting any fuel at all. Only starts with pour gas down the carb.. I removed the screw at the bottom of the float bowl, there was nothing coming out. Any thoughts? Thanks.
would 'suction' cause the 'needle' to get stuck in the seat? I say no, but i never play with these engines before either. Oh.. what is carb 'orifice plug' bottom side float bowl, behind a screw, that looks redundant.
My 1971 Evinrude 9.5 will not stay at slow idle. The twist grip and linkage/magneto drift to closer to start speed or a higher idle anyway. I looked in the manual for a throttle friction adjustment and do not find one on this motor. I don’t see one under the tiller. What am I missing? How do I get it to stay at idle when my hand is not on the tiller? Suggestions?
I have a question with my 66 Evinrude 9.5. The gear selector doesn't line up with the labels on the engine... not even close. And when accelerating it pops out of gear, is there an adjustment I can do on the shift linkage itself?
I have a 1967 evinrude and previous owner had custom throttle and steering cable and I disconnected everything because I wanted to use manualy l, idk how to put back to manual throttle
I like your video, but I have a issue with my motor 9.5 johnson. it's start very pull and run but it's not run fast enough. It only go 3-5 mile top. please advise me what is wrong why it's not going fast enough.
I just bought this engine... the guy doesnt know what year it is.. what year is this one? Also How the heck do I use the tilt function on it, I tried pushing the little lever that says lock/release to see if I can release it and I can't budge it... the guy quickly did it as we was dropping it off, but now its on the stand and I have No idea how to do it.. help please?!

The black mark is a great idea. You'll either be bang on or off by a mile. I re-engaged my tiller handle by trial and error. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks T-Mike! My throttle linkage was seized. Looking at this video helped me find the right parts to clean up and grease.
I'm working on a Johnson Seahorse 9.5 right now. Thank you for the advice!
Very useful coaching. Merci mon ami Ti-Mike !
Thank you so very much, you fixed my problem
Thanks so much I bought a old motor that someone installed incorrectly. Your video help me to great channel
T-Mike that was great. They're certainly unique. I'm still undecided if I like the 9.5's or not. It's the look of them.
Thank you for the video! Worked perfect for my 9.5 Evinrude.
Just picked up a 66 Johnson 9.5hp. Definitely subscribed! 👍
I just wanna thank you sir. This video saved me so much! My throttle linkage bolt came off and I couldn’t figure it out, thank you so much !!

Probably too much grease caked with dust.

Doesn’t matter where the grip stops on the markings - it matters on the cam roller running along the mag plate.
I found out it's normal. The low speed adjustment on the side of the tiller handle "limits" the rotation of the grip and has enough range to keep it from going past SLOW.

Yes there is another adjustment. Just trace the shift rod connector to the throttle.
Awesome!!

I have a 1965 model 9.5 I cannot find a hood for it by chance you have one
Sorry. No
Очень жаль что у нас в России на него тяжело найти запчасти. Johnson огонь 🔥

Where's the adjustment for the gear linkage?

Mike, how do you get the fuel line reconnected once you take the handle out. I am having a really hard time.
I think I found my problem. 1/4” fuel line won’t go on 5/16” fitting.
I have a 1967 evinrude and previous owner had custom throttle and steering cable and I disconnected everything because I wanted to use manualy l, idk how to put back to manual throttle
Hello Can you tell me what
Cause the throttle to be tight
Gears clogged with hardened grease.
T mike I have done this and my motor idles wayyyy high. How do I adjust the idle?
Use the knob on right side of handle to adjust the idle stop setting.
Olá, comprei um motor desse recentemente modelo MQ12A , quando usei percebi que é muito lento.
O que acontece ? A compressão que é baixa ?

Try running it with the cover off.
@@michaeljsimon I try that too but it's still run the same.

You must have your motor in forward gear / then list your motor up and use tilt lever to lock and unlock. Good luck
I've hot a 1974 9.5 i changed my impeller and put it back together now I have no reverse what did I do wrong
Shift Rod connector not properly back together
@@michaeljsimon ill try it again thanks any tips on what I did wrong
How do you put back/ replace the adjustment knob on the outside of the motor where you are working at?
Sorry not sure which knob?
