Cavett has to be the best interviewer I've ever seen.
No doubt! My grandmother Amy always preferred Cavett to Carson because she felt that Carson never really interviewed, he was busy selling. I respect both approaches but watching these Cavett episodes has given me a really great perspective on culture in this important time period.
Literally one of the worst interviewers lmao....
When he's spot on he's great. However, when he allows his own ego to overshadow his guests which sadly is often the case it makes you wish he was nothing more than a Marriott commercial spokesperson by trade. A talking head and nothing more.
Nah he totally took the air out of this interview with Robin he couldn’t match his energy or wit during any of the interview
@@willlacour "he couldn’t match his energy or wit"
Who could?
Without re-viewing the video (it's been a year!), I can easily imagine that Cavett and Williams would be a bit of a mis-match. Cavett is so calm and intellectual, and Robin so zany. So if I watched it again, I'd probably agree with you. But I still think that Cavett is, most of the time, an excellent interviewer.
"This is the Yugoslavian Oscar which I won some years back."
Brilliant improvised joke by Cavett. It would have sounded right in place coming out of Williams' mouth.
or if he said it with the right comedic timing.
What a unique time in human television
Oh my goodness! After knocking on the fireplace at 3:32 Robin says “Amontillado.” Edgar Allen Poe’s The Cask of Amontillado! Perfect context!
The things that he do with on stage or props , total genius! Dick is loving this 😂😂 You can tell that Dick was in awe of Robin’s lighting quick wit and creative mind! Just let him go and watch the master!
True Comic Genius!
I miss you Robin! Rest In Peace My Brother.
Exit movie Living Waters
Dick: I don;t know much about your history with improv
Robin: So you have chosen death?
Dick Cavett: "Jonathan Winters is certainly the funniest man who ever existed."
Robin Williams, a frontrunner for the funniest man who ever existed: "I agree."
I just think this amazing. Dick cavett’s interviews are great. Well worth exploring
i was a huge fan of his show and vividly recall watching this. I have been searching for this since RUclips was invented. thanks for posting.
If I am asked - what does genius mean, I give examples of like: Einstein, Messi, Hemingway, Beethoven, some more and Robin Williams. A sheer celebration of talent 🎭
Messi?
Are you just MESSIng?
Messi??
Only two people could improvise like that: Robin and Jim. I'm very sad we lost Robin, and double glad we still have Jim.
This, was 41 years ago
(As of May 2020)
@The Van
Not that long ago, really. I see young people share very similar viewpoints as we did then. It’s like a retelling, but in a different format.
The Van - Great maths, Einstein...
What a classic !!
And suddenly Cavett couldn't recognize his on set anymore, it was a new world full of stories
Good gravy that Capote-as-child-voice is GENIUS !
I love Robin Williams. Sad loss of a truly funny and gifted man when he passed. Rip. ❤
Fun fact..... Dick Cavett is the shortest man to ever interview Robin. I say that because this is the most comfortable Robin felt in an interview because for this interview Robin was the taller guy and it made him happy.
Dick has interview all the celebrities I love!
2:14 that's what she said
I had forgotten what a baby face Robin had back then!
I was fascinated by Robin's fast yet complex humor from his first appearance on on Happy Day's. The guy who I was going out with back then didn't like Robin and said ," He'll be a nobody in 5 year's !"
I often wonder how he would feel about the onset of real humanoid robot's like Sophia, Ameca and Beomni , after his great humanoid portrayal's in Centennial Man and Robot's.
That jaw!!!
Robin’s very on, here. Kinda worries me about how he was doing then. Loved the kids Capote/Buckley bit. And the tour of Dick’s studio, which was just excuses for Robin’s winging it. There’s another video of the two of them where Robin gets deeper and less manic, and discusses his depression, but it’s quite short.
I preferred Robin Williams interviews when he was 'off'. Even back in the coke days, when it was near impossible for him to sit still and not play at 200 mph, I wanted him to slow down and be himself. Obviously, it was almost impossible for him to do it.
Williams seems like da host
😁 Robin...❤️
Love the theme song so much
I think Robin was high on adrenaline or something else. This was common during the 1970s for up-and-coming celebrities. I really miss Robin as an actor and a great comedian.
Lmao!

I love Robin ❣️
What Aladdin is this? So when does he get sucked into lamp?
Idk why but I initially misread the title as 'Robin Williams Takes A Dick Out On Set'.
i lolled🤣
Didn't Robin Williams wear that same outfit in the music video Don't Worry Be Happy? It looks very familiar.
13:13 - 13:31 That music seems to play at the end of every clip and I just want to know if it has a name or not because if it does, I'd like to find it on RUclips if I could. I like it that much.
I would like that too. I looked into Bobby Rosengarden, the drummer bandleader that seems to be responsible for that tune. You may like some of his other recordings like I do.
mercy Ohio express is the song
@@cashouttdan Are you sure? The reason I ask that is because I heard the song after you suggested it and I would like to hear it the way it's played here. Call me an "old soul."
Keith Evers yeah IK I lied 😭
@@cashouttdan I applaud you, sir. You got me, you REALLY got me.
8:55 - 9:16 - OMG Dick Cavett was a savage!
I think that's the only time I've seen anyone zing Robin Williams
ADHD personified.
Cocaine*
Jay Mata yeah it annoys me though..some other interviews like on the Letterman Show, when a guess is being interviewed Robin can’t sit still and had to try and get attention..
@@Briannafrancis-e9g True, really depends on the mood. I'm just happy people like him exist to shake things up a bit.
@@boringchannel9987 was he really taking cocaine ?
I think it's possible, but he wouldn't be him without it. I mean, it gives him his brilliance. I don't think it detracts anything I mean.
Anyone else has the feeling that people in 2021 are getting less funny as they get dumber? Dick Cavett show is considered an intellectual show and yet it's very often hilarious. Smart and funny go along.
Depends were you look.
We’re always half way there
4:30 certain fears. Feel like a freak of nature
Cavett soon figured out he can't compete with Williams in improv
have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like the other Cavett ones.
ray confort

Was this before or after his comic lp?
At times you'll notice what he says is not that funny, but it's the associations that people laugh at.
Yep that's free association comedy for you. Sometimes it's just funny and surprising he can keep going so long lol
Back when you could smoke in public. 🚬
Did Dick Cavett ever meet John Redwood MP? equally as spontaneously humorous...
Wanna hear a secret? If there were nothin in the world that could get you high, None of us would have ever heard of Robin Williams. The poor guy was completely and utterly 100% addicted to Coke or whatever he was on. I mean, look at him... Huge drug addict who needed it to perform, same as most musicians on earth. it's crazy to think what the music world would look like today had drugs not been opently used and disovered after the 60'...
Hes dress like in the movie the bird cage!!!
Very very high :(
Sad that a brilliant display of comedic genius is dismissed as being high.
@In Between Lines just leave this between space for the first time and enjoy some novelty ;)
Older Cavett will not be able to out wit his younger self.
Long live communism and freedom
I definitely heard herbert from family guy at the end....
...😢
Please change the title
Pine Cone
Leave off Cavett and it’s perfect.
why

TRUMP 2020
All great comedians are deeply sad
No, they aren't.
yeah--it's weird--the deep unhappiness and sensitivity behind many jokes
Long live communism and eugenics
I ve never liked robin Williams. He was a bouffon
This is supposed to be funny? Maybe to a toddler it can be...
alright
Exactly
Actually much better as a serious actor (world according to Garp, dead poets society, good will hunting)
Sad you can't appreciate this amazing improv king, Robin was...
Painfully unfunny.
Painfully sad you can't get this genius improv humour...
His secular jokes made him commit suicide. This is why it is important to pay attention to your decisions, decide always according to the Holy Bible.
No it didn't His Lewy Body Dementia and his depression did. Don't get it twisted. I am a Christian but you aren't!
Imagine being so indoctrinated that you think that a lack of belief in a magic sky man compels people to kill themselves
@@thomasgraham742 Only Village Idiot Atheists attribute to Theism belief in a Magic-Sky Man. Here is a video of the philosopher Lane-Craig (who challenged Dawkins to a well-paid-debate, which the latter was too scared to take part in) mauling Christopher Hitchens, in a debate over the Existence of God, using purely logical argumentation :
