I relate so much to Matt, it’s so nice to hear some of my anxieties confirmed in other people. Not because I’m happy he’s as anxious as I am, but because it’s nice to hear we aren’t alone. Being a people pleaser is exhausting and when you’re not used to being assertive it feels like arrogance. Matt, all of your listeners are behind you, stick up for yourself and keep practicing setting boundaries. Life is too short to spend it worrying for someone else, I’m working on it myself. I am so thankful for you guys, Tuesdays are my favorite days :))
About the tipping, I always ask the cashier quietly if the tip on the iPad goes to them. Because I used to work at a donut shop and the tips that were left on the iPad didn’t go to us the employees. I always felt bad when the customers would give a generous tip on the iPad bc it would go to the owners and not us. So if it’s appropriate I just asks the cashiers or leave a cash tip.
I used to work at one of those ipad cafes. I never saw anyone get mad when people didn't tip. They would all just be really happy and grateful when they did tip. As for me, I mostly felt guilty because I felt like I didnt deserve it. I was only taking their order and already getting paid for it. Funny thing though, I now tip them every single time. The guilt and pressure is real.
I stopped going to therapy as often when every session became a gossiping session lol but if anything that just proves she helped me and I was capable of handling my problems on my own now
Tipping is an American thing that I will never understand. WHY WOULDNT THE BUSINESS JUST PAY THE EMPLOYEES MORE? It’s like putting a bandaid on a bullet hole.
And how is a small business going to be able to afford to pay employees $500 a day? A good day at a busy restaurant I can make that. If you make good tips that’s how you make good money. And if it’s a great service people should tip 20%. I even tip fast food workers because I know they deal with hellish people all day long. People who are stingy/cheap/don’t believe in tipping should not go out to eat or get services like massages or haircuts…those people ruin my day. Tip your service people 20%+ they work hard!!!
@@jasminecarter5305 I was referring more to big businesses where the CEO makes more than all the service workers combined. Also, yes, good service should be rewarded, but I think the corporation should give them a raise or a better paying opportunity, instead of just expecting the clients to tip them. But also, I don’t live in a country where tipping is a very common practice so I could be just not getting the logic behind it. Don’t think your tone was really necessary tho
I’m sorry I didn’t mean to have a tone people who don’t tip just really grind my gears lol. I understand different countries have different systems for tipping, but I think if you really knew how much more Americans make with the tipping system vs what people make in other countries on a “livable” wage you would choose the tipping system too. And I’m sure there’s exceptions, but over all people are probably making double here than what they’d make anywhere else. Unless there’s places in other countries that pay $60-$80 an hour for service workers specifically in restaurants.
@Jasmine Carter I totally get where you're coming from, but as a brit I gotta say I don't understand tipping one bit is there not a statuary miminum wage in the states? Genuinely have no idea, even small businesses here offer a minimum wage (suitable for the cost of living ect) x
Okay YES to Erin saying she gets anxious when she gets DMs!!! If I post something that sparks convo on my stories, having 30+ DMs (reactions or actual responses) is like having 30 people coming up to you irl. It’s too much socialization for me and I back out 😂 totally normal
I journal but the only way I’ve been able to be successful with it is putting zero pressure on it and just trying to do it once a week. Now I’ve gotten even more into it and and tape in photos or tickets or stickers, anything to do with that weeks entry. It’s really nice to have it to look back on!
I work at a tea shop and we have like a tip option before you put your card in… I understand when people don’t but if you’re buying a 5-7 dollar drink (sometimes orders are like $30) and usually I am the one making your drink too, I think it’s super kind to tip even a dollar (especially on a super larger order that takes us a long time) cause it will go towards my and my coworkers checks, and we are the ones making your drinks.
Plus we are a local business who usually only has 2-3 workers at a time and sometimes it’s just me in there. Especially weekend nights when I’m at work instead of out like everyone else is 🤣🤣
As a barista yes we get very mad if you don’t tip because were hand making those drinks and alot of time especially at smaller coffee shops there making crafted drinks just like a bartender or cocktail waitress we live off of the tips a lot of times even at things like Starbucks a lot of those baristas use the tips for gas and food it’s just a dollar or a few bucks to you guys but to us it matters alot and is kinda sad when you don’t because now I have to make a drink now for someone that I feel like didn’t appreciate the time I put into making it and in coffee culture it’s just the nice thing to do!
i loved this lmao it was so relaxing just listening to them talk about dos and donts and habits. i love hearing about their routines. pls do a texting etiquette ep!!!
Crazy to hear how much you guys tip in American, I’m a listener from the Uk and the only time we usually tip here is at a really fancy dining experience. So to hear you do it for ubers, coffee shops etc blows my mind a little
omg Matt is so cute in this! he always is but in this one he’s extra cute!! I totally relate to him when you guys were talking about grocery shopping. Oh god the squeegeeing is so relatable! My mum is so neurotic with it, not only does she expect us to squeegee the glass but also the tiles?? As if they’re not made to be wet every day?? The one night I tried doing the tiles I scratched them when the bathroom was like 3 months old and never did it again. Lucky my mum wears glasses and has never seen the scratch lmao
Another good habit is to think of highs and lows of the day, it’s a simple thing to do at the end of a night to yourself in your head, what made you smile that day, what was bad about that day, and what you can do to make the next day better!

Mike. I love a grocery store. When I was traveling for work I would go to all of the small random stores. My husband and I do grocery store dates and walk every aisle. You are not alone.
I started listening to this when you posted and I’m just finishing it now. But I got a bullet journal app and I love it! Also… based on this episode I think mike will be a really great dad one day
I have a physical calendar on my wall, Matt 💀 and I’m 28. But I also have 2 kids who have a lot going on in school and it’s mainly for that and birthdays. I strangely don’t use my phone calendar at all though 🤔 I’d rather write it down and mark out the days as I go.
To be fair I’ve worked many fast food jobs and I really appreciate a tip, I understand the annoyance of tipping before you get your food but I mean you’re getting a coffee which is 9/10 times going to be made correctly. We appreciate it none the less
I work at a small locally owned restaurant and when it comes to tipping… I always feel so awkward when that screen comes up because there is always that tension between the customer and me… but when it comes to credit card tips those tips get split between everyone working at the shop. They divide them into everyone’s paychecks.. every two weeks… they do that because everyone who is working at the said store is getting an even amount. When it comes to prep… customer service/dishes, and all in all the cooking of the food. That tip goes to every single person working in that restaurant or place of work not just the person you are talking face to face to. So the 20% isn’t just going to the person you are talking too it’s going to every person who works at the shop. I understand the discomfort people may feel when it comes to that tipping screen but all in all times have changed I personally along with a lot of people I am working with are going to school and renting a place and the salary itself isn’t enough so we do rely on tips, along with the other jobs we have to be able to afford school and rent.
Okay I feel like I should say this as a PSA - picking your nose in the shower is a bad habit. If you do make you sure you wash your hands directly after because if you pick your nose and then go to wash yourself, you can give yourself a staph infection since staph lives inside your nose. This is also important when drying your face. Dry your face with a seperate towel because the staph can go from your nose to your towel to your body.
I’m late and catching up but the GASP I let out when Erin said she hadn’t heard of Notion. A dream, so fun!! Look up some YT videos, it is insane all the things you can do with it
I’m pretty sure they do sponsorships too ;) I think it would be right up your alley. 10/10 recommend! It will sync between your laptop and phone. It is prettier and easier to edit/navigate on your laptop, but super easy to refer back to from your phone when needed!
So I work at a boba shop and I feel awkward having to see a customer tip. I only get a little mad when someone orders like 8 drinks during a rush and they don’t tip. Yet I do get it that not everyone can tip but as long as the customer is nice I don’t care about tipping.
Had to come over to the video form to say, when Mike talked about people cutting their nails in public. That’s such an east coast northerner thing. The amount of times I’ve seen people cut their nails on the bus 🤢🤢 when I moved to NC my employer asked what was my pet peeve and I said people cutting their nails in public. With just saying that she knew I was from the tristate area 😅
If you use DoorDash or something similar, always always tip! I did an order yesterday that was a grocery order, it was over $50 and It took me a long time and i had to drive a far distance. DoorDash paid me $4 and the person didn’t tip me. I lost time and money over it
Glad Matt brought up tipping at coffee shops. I also feel Pressure to tip and if I don't I also feel like my coffee will not be made well. Especially because I go All the time. So I usually tip $.50 every time and I don't care if anyone thinks I'm cheap. That shit adds up I go several times a week and its a happy balance.🤷🏻♀️
I work at a Hawaiian Bros, and we do the tip thing before service. Personally, I feel awkward for people having to do it because they’re usually looking around waiting for their card to go through, and I have to be like, “it’s gonna ask you a couple questions!” being the tip and what receipt they want. But I don’t care if they do or don’t because it doesn’t show me on my screen after they’re done anyway. I can’t speak for Starbucks and other places though. Plus, our tips are pooled so it doesn’t matter for me as an individual anyway.
I just watched the Health episode before this and it made me wanna chug green juice everyday. Now I’m watching this at work and I have an itch to go home and clean my room 😭
steve lacy has honestly earned the right to be mad at the "fans" who have been at his shows. they only come bc they know that one part of one song and they're throwing their cameras at him (the one he smashed hit him) as if their payment for a ticket means he belongs to them for the two hours
okay so I literally work at a froyo shop and we have a tipping ipad… I obviously like the extra money from tips but I think there is no reason to tip at a FROYO SHOP… it’s literally all self serve. people complain about it and i agree with them ahahaha
I worked at a subway for 8 years, people used to ask if they could tip all the time and we could accept them just didn’t have a tip jar or the card tip option then when we got it we began getting so many tips we were just so thankful for any tips we got and people were so kind. It wasn’t upsetting when people didn’t tip unless it was a crazy huge order then a bit annoying. It’s far more annoying when people complained that we had the option to tip. Don’t complain just don’t tip if you don’t want to that’s fine no problem with us we aren’t working for tips like servers or delivery people.
food delivery: you better tip at least $5. the fees don't go to the delivery person. if a food delivery is saving you mileage and time driving, TIP. I once did a dash order that took over 1 hr and they tipped $0
I use to work at a coffee shop where they had the IPad register that you’d flip around and honestly I was always felt more embarrassed as the employee. I didn’t care if people tipped me I was always just embarrassed we had to do that!
I work 50 hours a week, just went to my phone's digital wellbeing to check on my RUclips screentime and this past week ALONE it was fuc-ing 49 hours (I don't have my phone on me when I'm working) disclaimer: I'm on RUclips premium so I do everything while listening to podcasts and I don't have social media so it's quite literally the only app I use.
as a self-serve frozen yogurt store employee who has to make people select on those ipads i do not care if you tip or not bc the whole experience is self serve
old ipad barista - I say we never noticed if you didn't tip because we were used to it but I now always tip because I know what goes into it and go out of my way to tip since many people think you don't need to tip baristas
Rule of thumb when tipping at a restaurant or bar. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ 20% is an average and good tip anything below, is lame. My sister taught me this. Get the total then multiply it on your calculator by 0.20 and then boom your tip is right there. For example, if it says 8.67 then you would round up and tip them $9
I work at a Cafe with the tablet for tipping and I never get mad when someone doesn't tip for a drink. However, it is specialty loose teas and lattes so if y'all are asking me a million questions and want me to recommend something then I like a tip, ya know? Same thing when I budtended.
i couldn’t imagine doing another persons laundry when it came to socks and underwear like even my own im like really dirty but someone else’s?!? i tell my boyfriend it’s not happening 😭
I could never imagine tipping 20% on a daily basis, thats too much lol here in Mexico we tip 10% and 15% when they did an excellent job Ive never once seen anyone here tip more than that, I guess thats why everyone in USA has had a waiting job haha they pay well
Tip your Baristas!! Even though the screen just gets flipped the tips go to all the staff and the people slaving away at the hot espresso bar burn their hands too much to not make tips
Please tip restaurant and bar industry folks 20% minimum. 25% minimum for servers since they usually tip out on average 4-5%. They make less than minimum age per hour, so they are working for 20% minimum off of their sales.

The amount of times I’ve seen people cut their nails on the bus 🤢🤢 when I moved to NC my employer asked what was my pet peeve and I said people cutting their nails in public. With just saying that she knew I was from the tristate area 😅
The manscape ad right after the period talk 😂
If you use DoorDash or something similar, always always tip! I did an order yesterday that was a grocery order, it was over $50 and It took me a long time and i had to drive a far distance. DoorDash paid me $4 and the person didn’t tip me. I lost time and money over it
Matt’s face looks like it’s maturing since being engaged! ( I mean that in the best way, he always had such a baby face to me )
Glad Matt brought up tipping at coffee shops.
It's the Jersey in Mike with the grocery store. Cuz same I can be there for a long time
I work at a Hawaiian Bros, and we do the tip thing before service.
Just checked Uncommon Goods out for the first time and got a Christmas gift for my sister! Thank you guys for the discount hookup!! ❤
For the iPad job thing, I would only get pissed if the customer made me put in extra effort for them. Like if they weren’t an easy customer
okay so I literally work at a froyo shop and we have a tipping ipad… I obviously like the extra money from tips but I think there is no reason to tip at a FROYO SHOP… it’s literally all self serve. people complain about it and i agree with them ahahaha
I like the seating on this episode 😂🤣😅
I worked at a subway for 8 years, people used to ask if they could tip all the time and we could accept them just didn’t have a tip jar or the card tip option then when we got it we began getting so many tips we were just so thankful for any tips we got and people were so kind. It wasn’t upsetting when people didn’t tip unless it was a crazy huge order then a bit annoying. It’s far more annoying when people complained that we had the option to tip. Don’t complain just don’t tip if you don’t want to that’s fine no problem with us we aren’t working for tips like servers or delivery people.
Also at least at our place the tips would be split between everyone working at that time and it just went directly on our paycheck.
the things i would do to sit down and have a conversation with all of them instead of talking to my TV
as a mexican the burga ad startled me
food delivery: you better tip at least $5. the fees don't go to the delivery person. if a food delivery is saving you mileage and time driving, TIP. I once did a dash order that took over 1 hr and they tipped $0
I use to work at a coffee shop where they had the IPad register that you’d flip around and honestly I was always felt more embarrassed as the employee. I didn’t care if people tipped me I was always just embarrassed we had to do that!
the seating change definitely changed the dynamic
I work 50 hours a week, just went to my phone's digital wellbeing to check on my RUclips screentime and this past week ALONE it was fuc-ing 49 hours (I don't have my phone on me when I'm working)
disclaimer: I'm on RUclips premium so I do everything while listening to podcasts and I don't have social media so it's quite literally the only app I use.
Carly: Record Good Influences. Yeah obviously. LMAOOO
I agree with Matt though, def put mundane things like shaving on my to do list 😅
Studies show that writing pen to paper is more memorable than using a phone!
I have never heard of squeegeeing the glass door.. what are the benefits of doing that?
I used to have one of those iPad jobs and I could see when people wouldn’t tip, but honestly I didn’t care because I also don’t tip on those things
When i’m ordering for myself at a bar i just always leave a dollar or two for each of my drinks. Five dollars is way too much
as a self-serve frozen yogurt store employee who has to make people select on those ipads i do not care if you tip or not bc the whole experience is self serve
old ipad barista - I say we never noticed if you didn't tip because we were used to it but I now always tip because I know what goes into it and go out of my way to tip since many people think you don't need to tip baristas
i too am a grocery store enjoyer i am with u mike
Mike with a shaved head is such a vibe
..but you can do that on iMessage. 🤣
“ ohhh yeaaaa r.i.p” 💀😂
Erin always looks great but looks super great in this episode
I went to Subway the other day upon check out, the entire staff yells “hit no tip, we don’t get it anyways.”
Yall should do show and tell. Where you bring an item with a story you guys haven't told eachother or the Internet.
What day do you post? I thought Monday
Rule of thumb when tipping at a restaurant or bar. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
20% is an average and good tip anything below, is lame. My sister taught me this. Get the total then multiply it on your calculator by 0.20 and then boom your tip is right there. For example, if it says 8.67 then you would round up and tip them $9
what episode to do they talk about the pooping in the shower
I work at a Cafe with the tablet for tipping and I never get mad when someone doesn't tip for a drink. However, it is specialty loose teas and lattes so if y'all are asking me a million questions and want me to recommend something then I like a tip, ya know? Same thing when I budtended.
Matt glows in this podcast
i couldn’t imagine doing another persons laundry when it came to socks and underwear like even my own im like really dirty but someone else’s?!? i tell my boyfriend it’s not happening 😭
We stan women in STEM: Carly & Erin! 😘
😂😂😂😂😂
I could never imagine tipping 20% on a daily basis, thats too much lol here in Mexico we tip 10% and 15% when they did an excellent job Ive never once seen anyone here tip more than that, I guess thats why everyone in USA has had a waiting job haha they pay well
Me and my boyfriend just quit this is day 5 for us we have been going thru so many sweets and gum
A girl in my hs died from tss and that was literally the first time I’d heard of it
Tip your Baristas!!
