Netgate announces the Netgate 4100, the company’s newest secure networking appliance. Excellent for pro home, SMB, and branch offices starting at $599 USD.
Initial impression was that it's expensive. Then I tried to do some comparison shopping and apparently everything else is too, if you can even purchase it. Anyway, QAT and 2.5Gb is very nice to have! I did find the warnings around storage a little silly though.
@@NetgateOfficial so sad so we either now pay too much or have models that are better priced but miss the ideal throughput requirement to users on gigabit internet connections.
@@NetgateOfficial And I'm definitely getting the 4100 for my brother's law office (i'm his IT guy). Love the quad independent 2.5 gig nics on this instead of just a managed switch built in for vlans. I've been using pfsense as my home router in an ESXI VM for like 3 years now and its comical when I tell people that the only time it ever restarts is because I tell it to, unlike consumer junk that doesn't work right if you don't physically unplug it once a week.
I have a 1GB FTTH fiber with a Huawei HG8010H external ONT. Can I connect the 4100 to the external Huawei ONT via WAN port without the need for specific adapters? to then connect my two routers, a fritzbox 7590ax and a GL.inetXT1800. How do you recommend making connections to take advantage of the firewall part of the Netgate 4100?
Hi! Good question. I'd go ask on the Netgate forum, since we don't have a Fritzbox or GL.inetXT1800 to test. There is nearly always a community member who has gone before you - stand on the shoulders of giants!
The previous price point of this item was $100 less. Is there a timeline associated with it going back to the previous price point? I know Covid and all the other reasons given everywhere for price increases, but wasn't sure if there was any additional information you might be able to provide. Thank you for a great product.
We would also be excited to return our pricing to "normal", but we don't see the curve flattening on increasing costs - everything from components, to shipping (up x3), to mfg cost. On 4/29/22 Intel's CEO said he did not see the chip shortage returning to a more normal level until 2024 (!) Unfortunately, we have been informed of additional price increases on future deliveries so you will see some of our add-on kits and cards go up in price in the future.
I’ve been waiting and waiting for the “right product” from Netgate to give me a little boost of performance to replace my SG-3100. While the SG-4100 would be the perfect replacement, it is coming in $125 too high for my home network IMO.
Component scarcity and shipping costs have driven all prices higher in 2022. Manufacturing partners expect material price variance to remain high through at least mid-2023.
I have seen multiple claims of this being rack mountable. Is this accomplished through some undocumented configuration of the wall mount kit? Or, does this just need to be set on top of a rack mounted shelf in a cabinet. If the latter, the "rack mount" claim is somewhat deceiving.
There is a rack mount kit being manufactured that will be available in Q2 2022. An exact date is not yet available (supply chain issues & COVID delays). This video refers to the mount points already integrated into the Netgate 4100 chassis.
@@NetgateOfficial Is there a landing page, or a way to be notified as you have updates to this? We are also interested in a proper rack mount kit for the 4100 units we have.
@@grth5373 Fastest way would be to subscribe to the Newsletter here www.netgate.com/resources/newsletters , but I will also ask that we create a landing page just for this purpose and update you with that info when it is in place. The rack mount kit will be available bundled with Netgate 4100, and also separately for your existing 4100 or 6100 units.
Whilst I enjoyed the details, Inside the box would be a bit more interesting if there was an actual look inside the box. As it stands more outside the box.
Not understanding the value proposition here. Pretty expensive kit for the specs involved here. Give me an i3 at that price point. I think you need to reevaluate the pricing across your desktop based product lines.
One thing we didn't mention in this video is the TCO value. The system price includes software updates and zero to ping support for pfSense+ through product EOL.
For 600USD I can buy a 10GB Router and a 8 ports 10GB SPF+ Switch, I don't need to say the brand because you guys know it already, you guys are way way to expensive, but good luck with that.
Awesome Guys! love to see the updates to NetGate Products

YES Please !! Nice video !!
I really want the 3100 series back again. It was a perfect product at a fair price.
Component shortages, PPV & excessive lead times (50 weeks) killed the 3100. It was a great product.

Came for the 4100 overview, love the watkins glen BMW poster in the background.
Good eye!! :-) You'll find Frazier at track days at COTA here in Austin, Texas.

Brilliant, buying one 👍💪
Do we need a subscription for software updates etc, and is the wall mounts included?
A $0 software subscription is included for the life of the product! The wall mount and 1U rack mount are available as add-ons for an additional fee.
What's the IDLE consumption of the 4100?

Wow, the 4100 reached EOS fast! 😲 What replacing it?
Netgate 4200. Much faster, a little less expensive. Win win!

@@NetgateOfficial thanks for the insight and I’m going to order the new model to support the great work you folks are doing over there.
Can the 10gig WAN port be used for 2.5 & 5gig speeds too?
There aren't any 10G ports. There is two 1G combo ports and 4 2.5G ports.

Still a bit pricey. Would be perfect to accommodate my 2.5GB ISP and 1GB ISP's both fiber.

The brand starts with an M, correct? I have few of those at my house and they're great for the price.
