I absolutely loved this interview. I could listen to these two talk about movies and culture all damn day. Jordan has such a unique perspective based on his comedy and improv history. It's refreshing to hear him explain his process and his inspirations.
I have had to help people realize these two changed black cinema forever and the flux of black ppl getting roles n movies boomed after Get out n Black panther
@FoxHowell there were black actors before but honestly? Never playing the lead character without being killed off or having "stereotypically black" problems. We are definitely living in a new era where black actors play as heros and have real depth that wasn't given to them in scripts before! It's amazing how a few voices in the right spaces can make such an impact!!
More opportunities are being created for black people in the movie industry, and this two great black filmmakers are the epitome of creating and manifesting opportunities for themselves and for others, especially black/african americans, to be successful in their own right.
It's just like Denzel Washington said. Another director could've done Schindler's List but they wouldn't have brought what Steven Spielberg did. Because there are certain ethnic and cultural nuances that come from personal experience
