Looks like we are the sense of self, without it seems we are not longer real (our model of reality changes). Sense of self that could be helpful or a limitation. Even we can go to the sense of living, the experience of living. It's super interesting to find in AI this also side of openness to the side of non self. Also how AI can evolve if taking specific points of views in that regard, is incredible. I understand alien as it's meaning... But whatever AI comes is fundamentally apparently created by humans, evolution,... Cannot be more natural in that sense... Or more human.... Even if we try not to
Sounds like a healthy dose of fatalism - Que sera sera, but do your best. Please just don't confuse economic activity and attention as success. Sam Altman, I worry that you're losing public trust right now. The way ChatGPT was released angered people aligned with AI for good (now largely fixed). Then the partnership with microsoft, which isn't necessarily bad, but microsoft as a company has sown deep mistrust in the software and particularly the open source community. This makes me think of OpenAI to Microsoft like DeepMind to Alphabet. And Demis Hassabis has a much longer tracked record of focussing on the common good whereever possible, even though Google and other alphabet daughter companies have done some shady stuff regarding censorship and political influence. Now the GPT4 paper included no technical details while Google released Llama, Alpaca for free. There's also no sign as to when the 32k prompt length for GPT4, image inclusion and developer fine-tuning will be available, if at all. And now silence. Sam, I've been a big fan of your's and OpenAI and continue to be, but I worry about this trend.
