Brian Chesky came like he's Sam Altman's lawyer. Interesting dynamic. Maybe I'd have to know the YCombinator history to understand.

I look at these guys and listen and what I don't see is evidence of compassion, empathy, warmth, and kindness. It's true Mr. Chesky appears to care about his friend Sam and that's a good thing for sure. But for people with so much power and responsibility for changes in our lives, I would hope they would prioritize our humanity and our vital needs to have and expand greater empathy caring, and kindness.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, for some people I guess, today's AI is basically going to be used to sell you more products, and not much else, advances in science and other fields of endeavor notwithstanding. For old geezers like me, being able to interrogate one of these LLMs about stuff that used to require heavier Binging or Googling is fine, but really doesn't change the contours of my day-to-day existence much at all; that won't happen until my PC acquires arms and legs, generally speaking, and the dexterity to use them in ways that will actually be useful to me. That day is approaching, to be sure, and I predict that within 100 to 200 years, personal robots will become available to more and more people, first as expensive toys, but then as indispensable helpmates. But then I'm just a dreamer... 🙃

I think Sam and Brian continue to dodge the most important safety questions with blanket statements that sound nice in theory.
They continue to talk about how society will be in the conversation to shape the values with feedback.
What feedback are they using to shape it?
As a regulatory measure, they should be asked to accumulate specific feedback and publicly display what new code was written to address those concerns.
It should start to be public knowledge of who is shaping the brain of this world-wide tutor, as millions of people are asking it questions and expecting facts and truths to be learned from it.
We should start to be able to vote on its value system, as it is now guiding people through learning of politics and religion.
This is too powerful to be left to Sam and his executives to decide its future.
New regulatory measures should get the public tangibly involved with voting measures and public displays of what new code is being implemented along with who was in charge of implementing that code to create a system of accountability for when things go wrong, which inevitably they will at some point down the line.

Nordic countries are already seeing a 60% increase in power usage despite their renewable energy resources, which means their power resources have become compromised. Capacity? Do VC’s have the capacity to keep investing in a black hole with no ROI? No. How many people are actually paying to use GenAI? Not nearly enough.
