Sigma's EF to L is super tight though.
My holy trinity is my travel kit: 7-14 Zuiko, 12-100 Zuiko, 100-400 Leica...all with the OM1.1. All fit into a relatively small bag. The 12-100 is the most used.
Totally agree - the Panasonic 10-25mm f1.7 is a beast (in weight and in function), and has never left my Olympus EM1 Mk3 for months, despite the absence of the manual aperture ring functionality on an Oly body.
Dude!!! So refreshing I found another LUMIX MFT user. 10-25mm is the missing child in my family … for now. 😊
Oh and congrats to you and the Mrs. 🙏🏾
i pride myself on how lightweight my fujifilm f2.8 zooms are. M43 is another level in portability, wow
My 3 go to lenses for general video are 10-25, 25-50, and 35-100. I also use the 9mm/1.7 for gimbal work and the 100-400 for surfing video
I prefer Olympus 1.2 primes, but for zooms the holy trinity for sure is 7-14, 12-40 and 40-150 f/2.8 PRO zooms. With that said I think the 10-25 and 25-50 f/1.7 zoom lenses are pretty amazing, just very bulky and heavy, prefer 2 bodies with f/1.2 primes for this scenario.
Fine on an Ollie (I use those too) but they won't use the DFD and Dual on a Lumix. On there the Ollie primes are good for stills, just a trifle slow reacting for video. If you have used Dual-IS with a long lens you will understand why.
@@jeffslade1892 maybe that's true. I don't have Lumix camera and I've never used one of their lenses. But Olympus / OM System they have also Sync IS, sadly not so many lenses have stabilization.
same issue with my viltrox and g9. I've never tried the 10-25. Though I can see going for it if I shot more professionally. I'm happy with the 2.8 zooms and a couple of cheap primes for low light. Although I have a feeling one day I'll see the 10-25 for a "too good" used price and talk myself into it.
I feel for anyone who's a recording go bad due to that loose connection. Agreed, the 2.8s really do well and now with the G9 II, they might be all anyone needs.
I’ve had the same thing with my gh5 + viltrox speedbooster. I have found that putting a couple small pieces of packing tape around both the front and back mounts of the speedbooster tightens it enough to make it snug. More or less tape is determined by how tight you need it to be. After done so, I don’t really get the error message. It’s not perfectly reliable, but it works.
With the variable aperture Leicas you just set it to F4 and go crazy! Its basically constant after that.
yeah, and the 12-35/35-100 f/2.8 are probably flattest at f/5.6 but good enough at f/4 (one stop). They're amongst the best but none of the lenses are dead perfect wide open. Wide open the centres are sharp but the corners a trifle curved.
With a 2.8-4 you want to set it to f/5.6 or f/6.3, probably best at f/8. With a long tele there's shallow DoF and it wants a small aperture to deepen it. Which is where these big fast lenses fall down, paper thin DoF.
I don’t shoot weddings any more, I shoot live theatre, concerts, and dance shows. Like you, I prefer zooms. I have the 8-18 mm, 12-40 mm (Olympus), 35-100, and the 50-200 (some venues are really big). I have 2 GH5s, one GH5 ii, and a GH6.. I usually shoot with 3 cameras.
At a recent event, I was shooting with the Sigma 24-105 on Speedbooster, and the G9 kept freezing and losing the file. This happened when quickly changing zoom to catch action, and has never happened with the 12-35 or 35-100. I suspect it's a combination of the camera struggling to read the rapidly shifting focal length for IBIS, and it being an adapted lens issue. I'd love to get a 10-25 and 25-50. I have the f1.2 Olympus lenses but fast zooms would be really convenient.
I have had Panasonic lenses disconnect on me several times on my GH6. It happens the most with my 8-18, but also a few other lenses. I haven't had that issue with my GH5s. I would like to see a firmware update that allows the GH6 to re-establish the connection rather than forcing a shutdown.
Dang feels bad that moment you just bought a sigma 18-35+viltrox and see that video saying they're never going back to it and using a native cause its better LOL. I use to shoot weddings with some voigtlander primes, laowa for wide gimbal work but I never got to experiment too much with zoom lenses. Well I'm going to at least try the sigma for my vacation trip and if its really not ideal i'm going to sell it off. That 10-25mm f1.7 looks nice though! The money i saved though on the sigma i guess i can get some nd filters. Anything you recommend since you were a previous user of the sigma 18-35?
Thanks for video. It’s always interesting to see what others are using as their go to. I don’t have any play with my Viltrox speed booster but I can sure see your issue. Your setup is sweet… keep going!
Damn, you are lucky with that viltrox. Thank you as always my friend!
@@lyndonlabayan flange distance (to sensor) is critical to within 0.5mm, meaning +/-0.2mm or less really, and I have seen 0.03mm quoted. And faces parallel. So any play is bad. There's always some play on the lens fitting, there has to be or we would not get them on and off, but adapters are very variable, a source of inaccuracy and additional play.
I use the same lenses for weddings except the 25-50 instead of the 10-25. I love the look of the GH6 way more than my S5’s…I feel like I’m the only one!
That's interesting. Can you articulate WHY you prefer the look of your GH6? I know the GH6 has all-i codec. Are you using the same picture profiles? I have seen some excellent footage from the GH6, but I always attributed that to the videographers' skils. Trust me, I can make an Arri Alexa look bad. I'm an expert in ughly :(
@@marinrealestatephotography I’d probably attribute a lot of it to the Leica 25-50. Shooting in VLog on both the S5 and GH6, it’s easier to get the GH6 to where I want it then the S5. I’m definitely not an expert at color grading but i just find the GH6 to have a touch more organic and vibrant quality to it.
Curse You, Lyndon: You just made my life a LOT WORSE!!! I am looking for a B Cam for shooting in 6K (preferably without a time limit) and I can't decide between getting a (used) GH6 or a (used) BlackMagic PCC 6K, to go along with an S5 IIX. I mostly plan to use it for corporate video work but also the occasional wedding video, where it will probably remain as a B Cam. The point of 6K is to be able to "punch in" during editing / re-frame the shot. The problem with the GH6 is that m43 lenses aren't compatible with my S5 IIX, and with a BMPCC6K, I can at least buy some Canon EF glass and have SOME compatibility with the lenses. I just don't want to keep dumping a ton of money in to high quality L-Mount lenses AND have to dump a ton of money in to high-qulaity m43 lenses :(
P.S. despite my condemnations, I do always look forward to your videos, even if they cause bodily harm to my wallet.
Thank you!
Ok, I feel that too.. I know the value in m43 and I too worried about split-investing into 2 mounts. Even now, I still own and use m43, EF and L mount lenses AND I THOUGHT THE SAME THING regarding the BMPCC 6K Pro! Other than the fact that I love the Sigma 18-35 and the 50-100, I didn't see it fitting my current workflow (I don't think I'd want to do raw, I don't want to invest in more/new media, new batteries). Internal NDs and BRAW sounds fricken nice though.
If I was in your position, I don't know if I'd get a GH6 if you didn't already have the m43 lenses you wanted. I think you're right about being able to use EF glass on your L cameras as a good reason to own a BMPCC6K along with S5II/x's. That's just me though and thanks again for the kind words! Let me know what you end getting hahaha.
I found that after using the 50-200 2.8-4, I do not use the 35-100 anymore. It is really sharp and it has lovely rendering- and it covers 200mm so really long.
That is a sweet lens. Ya I don't have anything at that 400 equivalent and that kind of coverage sounds awesome.
@@lyndonlabayan Its tough for me because sometimes I love the 50-200 but honestly staring at 100mm instead of 70 is really too tight a lot of times. It also a lot bigger but it is really really nice.
There I use the 45-200ii, not because it is a better lens but because it is half the weight.
From there I jump up to the PL100-400 which is really heavy, for wildlife where you can hand-hold stills but not video.
I had some play in a teleconverter the other day, turned out the whole mount was loose, tightened the four little Philips screws and now it’s fine, could be the issue?
That is interesting... I'll have to take a look. Thanks for that!
Yeah, the 12-35/2.8 and 35-100/2.8 have always been the best mft lenses. I have the mark 1, the lack of Dual2 is not a problem, they go Dual-IS and have always been weatherproof & dust. There is now a mark 3 Leica 12-35.
Since DFD (G7 and GH4 by update) was introduced only native Lumix lenses can use it, Olympus and Sigma AF lenses cannot, which is a shame. Likewise the Dual stabilisation only works with Lumix Power-OIS lenses, again not Olympus IS lenses.
Whilst I do have the 7-14 I rarely use it, indeed rarely want to go below 14mm. The Leica 10-25 is interesting but it is huge and heavy, which would quite apart from its price, put me off it. It is little shorter than the 12-35 and UWA distort facial features. The 12-35 for group shots and the 35-100 for portrait, more or less.
I get away with a LOT using the 25-50 but the range just isnt long enough for events and weddings much of the time. Is that the reason you havent picked one up?
I guess I haven't because I only looked at the 10-25 to replace the 18-35. Handheld, I feel like 50 (equiv) is enough for me but maybe it's also because I've never gone handheld with something like the 25-50. I have the Sigma 50-100 but I have to use it with a monopod or tripod so I'm rarely using it. I'll have to think about that one!
@@lyndonlabayan dude I love it for the portrait sessions, smaller venues, and the close focus is insane for the rings and details stuff. It is pretty pricey and the range is not as universal as the 10-25 though
It would be interesting to know what you think the muzak adds?
what about low light event or wedding? does those lens enough for low light?
Technically, no. BUT at 6400 ISO in a pinch with (hopefully) properly balanced ambient light or even just with proper lights set up.. then yes. That's actually why I still use the S5II.
One question...is your intro voice over in anyway inspired by the comms voice over from Metal gear solid v (the phantom pain)?
Hahaha dude... YES. I had a version where I had it click and altered to sound like lofi audio but I didn't like it as much as I couldn't replicate the BRRR sound from the Idroid start up....
Good ear!
@@lyndonlabayan haha... dude...so cool 😎. I feel like a certified nerd right now. The thought of the intro has kept me up at night thinking about where I've heard it and if it was intentional 😂. Great stuff man. Love your videos!
money money money
Holy Trinity? Not hardly.
