Protip: Using Sword Block when exiting phase shift will keep you from blowing up due to "physics".

one quick tactic, if you use ronin to flank use him with a scortch or legion so you push them into thermite and firing lines. if you use it to brawl hangout by a tone and use the particle wall as cover. if you leapfrog titans you can push through bottlenecks, ronin moves forward blocking fire then tone plants the wall for cover when the heat builds up. when they reload ronin boosts forward and disrupts them giving tone time to lock ordinance. leapfroging to push works with legion and scortch to... well anyone with a shield. have fun pilots

and also your eyebrows get singed way to often
Joshua Iniguez the block doesn't help that much as it doesn't block all the damage which means titans with area of affect attacks just ignore it and you get destroyed anyway

Did you know that if you hold Sword Block *_while_* phase dashing into a Titan, you won't die, buy you will take damage.

I always try and use a different Titan everyday and everyday I think I've a new favourite...
Ha nice. Ronin is definitely at the top of my list too.
Few points to add.
1. If you phase dash and sword block you won't be killed by popping up in an enemy (you technically still can but it has to have no where to bounce one of you, but for the most part 99% of the time you won't die now).
2. Sword core increases the dmg you block from sword and makes your dashes almost instant cooldown. Also worth noting that while in this mode you can't perform executions.
3. Phase dash will now remove (this wasn't the case at time of this video) Tone marking trackers on you.

The reason I love ronin so much is because with the turbo engine kit you effectively get 4 dashes to use.
Yeah it makes him feel a ton faster than the others because of that.
a few helpful hints for people looking to play ronin: if you are full hp or close to it and can't get away from a nuke eject, sword block allows you to survive it. it also allows for you to survive the phase dash into an enemy titan. the long and short is USE THAT SWORD BLOCK. IT BLOCKS WAAAAY MORE DMG THAN YOU THINK
Question: Is Ronin with Two Arc Wave charges or a shorter Phase dash cool down better in an attrition game?
It's preference. Two Arc Wave charges is better for chasing people down. Shorter Phase is better for escapes. I prefer the two arc waves. It's got strong utility against particle walls & gun shield.

Ronin has a always available shield that can block from ALL sides so you should use that most of the time.
Ronin is a titan to distract others. ou pull them away to your freindlies to kill them
Ronin is a pilot killer since his sword has a extended range for easy melees so you need to get him at the begining o matches.
Ronin can get free batteries by phase dashing at the right moment when a enemy pilot is rodeoing you. You'll loose no damage and youll gain health and a oversheild.
If you block while phase shifting youll never get exploded by other titans.
A good loadout for ronin
Titan Kit: Overcore 30%core startup
Ronin Kit: Temporal anomaly allows for quicker phase dash cool dow: ein
Titanfall Kit: either
or
Titan Kit: Titan Kit:Turbo Engine Allows for an extra boost for 3 total boosts
Ronin Kit: Thunderstorm Arc wave has 2 charges
Titanfall Kit:either
Bad Loadout For Ronin
Titan Kits: Stealth Auto Eject (NEVER it limits the ammount of time you have)
Nuke reactor (a better option then auto eject but most enemy's are smart enough to move.)
Ronin Kits: Highlander (it only works for the kill hit on a titan)
Ricochet rounds (this is not very practical and mainly is not worth it)
Play as Ronin almost always holding your sword up to always reduce damage even in sword core it allows for living in ronin longer
All and all Ronin is a great titan but he tkes some time mastering as does with scorch and northstar.
I give Ronin a 9/10 for titans

Guerrilla Magic He's extremely tough to use. If only his melee or gun is better. If you use Ronin, you pretty much would get damaged a lot. I'm still trying to figure out what how I should play him. (Probably for flanks to only pick off low health titans)
Nuclear eject is bad for him lmao you are so wrong I always run that and always get kills it's about timing with your phase dash . As a 13 gen ronin I can tell it works well

Yeah I'm pretty sure they were inspired by that. Makes me smile cause I used to play him a lot when League of Legends first came out.

Best tip I could give anyone who's trying to git gud with ronin is, keep up your sword block as much as possible. Don't underestimate how important your little amount of health is, do as much as you can to preserve it. Also, you can use sword core to distract enemy titans or eat an enemies core while blocking, because blocking with sword core active allows you to block even more damage

I came up with a good kit for ronin its called "re-directive current":
sword parry blocks slightly less damage but absorbs some energy, after blocking a significant amount of damage ronin is able to dish back the damage through arc wave for a short period of time, (like the arc waves during sword core/amped weapons but it's power is based on how much energy is absorbed through the sword), I know that they won't incorporate this but it does beat ricochet rounds

Pro tip: when you phase dash with ronin you can boost(regular dash) again while in phase dash to go farther which is very good if someone can guess where you'll relatively re appear.
That's a subtlety that I hated myself for not including in the video once I uploaded it lol.

Here's a fun fact, Ronin's sword can block nuclear explosion ability when Titans explode, I believe this might have something to do with most of the damage actually coming from the shrapnel that comes off the Titan when it blows up, and not only that he can also block the fire that The scorch puts down, like his fire whip or his projectiles in general he can block it and easily go through it, which makes his shield the most powerful shield in the game, I got to admit that's a pretty good trade for any of the other Titans.
Of all the Titan Ai, his voice and what he says is the best I love it

This video made me a much better player at Titanfall 2. From being killed in a titan in seconds, to now being able to sometimes wipe a squad of titans. Thank you iBluairJgR
The student has become the master!
A big role you can play as Ronin is the annoyance/bullet sponge. You flank behind their line of titans, make them aware by shockwave-ing them, then keep their attention by sucking up their bullets with your block or simply dancing around them with dashes and your phase shift. This works amazingly, it's a tempting bait that many titans go for. Meanwhile of course, your team is right on their backs pumping damage into them.
What I mean to say is, obviously Ronin is the best flanking Titan in the game.
A good idea is to use battery back-up to soak up some extra damage while your closing the distance.

if you have nuclear eject you should pin someone to a wall and if you are does just eject and they cannot escape.
I still believe Ronin needs a buff as a gen2 Ronin. His sword blows bounces off titans too much and for a sword it does disappointing damage. Its like you have said; even when being stealthy hit and run, you can get shredded in seconds. He's too much of a high risk-low reward. While other titans are the opposite and sit back. Not very balanced for Ronins, overall.
Yeah I agree with you. As much fun as I have with him (especially when I get my combos right and kill three titans without dying), there are a few things about his kit that need tweaking to make him feel more. . . polished.

CroneRaven1810 You gotta remember that his Broad sword is not a primary weapon, and shouldn't be relied on unless you have sword core online. His strength is in his presence i think. whenever a Ronin shows up, two things happen. You immediately get everyone's attention, and possibly cause panic as they're so focused on killing you with how dangerous Ronin can be with a skilled pilot. A great distraction for your team to move in.

Sword core doesn't totally restrict the ability to deal damage at range. Arc wave is still available and is even empowered.

Ronin is Genji's new ultimate.
When you use your sword core you don't completely give up on your range, sword core buffs your Arc Wave with a faster travel time, larger radius, and more damage. Plus it looks sick :3

Also note if you hit with Arc Wave in close range you also nab a melee hit from the sword AND the Arc Wave itself. Extremely strong. I was unsure if it's true or not and haven't been able to legit test it but I've noticed more health being dropped by doing it.
Oh nice I'm gona have to try that out. Ronin has so many little tricks that can make him more effective.

I would like to point out to the ronin player I'm a scorch main G4 . Any good scorch player when he's close will use his shield to burn you fast then you do damage to him . I've done it to a ton of Roman player who think they can get close and kill me but they were the ones in trouble.
So watch out for scorch up close because they will have the ability to make shield last longer and if there good the will have boost to get close if you try and run!!!!
That's just my tips to you ronin plays on scorch match ups
Philosophy God Scorch is my favourite enemy when I use Ronin, he's way too slow to stand a chance against my Ronin
Scorch is way to slow against Ronin, Tone and Monarch are the scary ones for a Ronin

Attack idea: Ronin will twist his sword very fast at his right side and creates a kame-hame-ha like energy ball at the side of his sword after it's fully charged.
It's an range-attack.
It deals high damage but it needs 4 seconds of charging before it deals full damage.

Arc Wave doesn't attack titans very well, but It's effective because it blurs out screen, slow their movement and sensitivity making enemy's titan vulnerable, and easy to hit.
Yeah it's damage isn't super impressive but like you said, the utility is amazing.
Ronin needs a buff imho (ESPECIALLY compared to TONE and Legion) - cool video

I remember when I was playing with ronin there was a full legion just come down me and my team ate just destroyed him I did a full round then phased behind then activated my core and it felt good but I had to eject but it was really fun

Do you think scorch's heat shield is a good counter to ronin being up close? I'd be interested to know what comes out on top, the heavier armored scorch holding the shield on the lighter chassis Ronin while he slashes and/or shoots. Any thoughts?
Thanks for watching & commenting man. I'm pretty sure the Flame shield with the Inferno Shield kit will decimate Ronin (or any other titan) if they stand in it so if you want to take on Scorch with Ronin, you'd be better of dancing around him and blasting with the shotgun. His attacks are predictable enough that you can block every one with your sword if you get your timing right.

Three lane maps with tight corridors are the bane of Ronan's existence...
Yeah. The map layouts can be a pain when you're not coordinated but if you mic up and have the heavies push, you can dash in an rip butt holes open. Think of it like League of Legends.

nice genji reference.
ronan needs a buff. first have two phase shift charges for quick in and out fun, second have elemental properties applied to his sword which also changes the property of his abilites. like adding fire with make his sword have a damage over time effect and his lighting wall becomes a fire one that can detonate other people gas mines and make them your own. his sword core also should give him a overcharge shield, like have it be a overdrive he can use if hes trapped. his shotgun needs a new... theme to it. i love the first game mine field shotgun and hope this one acted the same. all i can say give me 6 rounds make them have a chance to stagger at close range or have a slow effect thanks to magnetic rounds or something.
Ha I think they'll give Scorch a fire sword before Ronin but I do think he could use a few changes. Also the Tripple Threat (Minefield Shotgun from Titanfall 1) was SO much fun. Hope they bring it back.
You can easyly block tone's and north stars special ability with your skoro block trust me i did survived

Anyone plays Overwatch here? I think that Ronin is really similar to Genji in Overwatch, they both are close-range and uses a sword, and Genji's ultimate ability is the same as sword core

Shotgun is strong while close
He's just overall badass
Reasons not to play him
Not much armor
The shield doesn't fully block
Reload takes a bit of time
You must Be careful with the dash

Whenever I play titanfall .... I hardly see anyone else use ronin... I'm usually the only one... or their is (rarely) another on the other team or my team
I only use ronin against titans so that i could get those very honorable executions...
