I really love how they add in some Christian meanings into their music. As a Christian, it's cool to see how they're being influenced so much in their music. In this one, the lyrics are about a Christian coming back to God after getting so caught up in the worldly things. He says he hasn't found a drop of water or a drop of life all this time, in all these things that we put our time into that don't matter as much as we desperately want them to. So this Christian is asking God to wash him with the water, with the life that he needed so badly. I mean, regardless of whether or not you believe in God, it's alright to appreciate the beauty of these lyrics. This is just one tiny little piece of why I love these guys to death.
most of they're songs are deeply inspired by his religion...but he uses alot of metaphors ..which you have to break apart to see what he really means ...honestly this is one of the songs like the other guy he says i use to worship..its so deep and beautiful..

For some reason it wasn't til this video that I realized how important Josh was to the band. Like Tyler always said Josh made the band who they are today but I always thought "yeah, hes a great and tight drummer, but there are so many other good drummers too". But just seeing the emotion Josh puts into his playing and the unspoken chemistry between the two... You can just feel that these two were meant to play music together.
+drummerboy231434 what really gets me is the way Tyler looks over at Josh especially during those really emotional bits and instrumentals and you just feel its because he's desperately holding on to him, Josh is anchoring him in that moment and they've been through so much together that they both just understand and seeing one another and being around each other is all Tyler needs to grasp the strength in those moments
The way he sings feels so...raw. it almost feels like we should look away, like we're intruding on something so deeply human and personal that it's almost wrong to watch. But we need that. We need someone to create something--some piece of art that's almost disturbing in it's rawness, so we can face our own humanity too. That's what twenty one pilots has done for us. They've given us a mirror in which we can more easily view those parts of ourselves that we want to forget, but must not, and through that process, we begin to heal. Their music isn't just music anymore. It represents us--all of us, as humans, as people who've been broken and who've failed and who still find something within themselves that urges them to press on, even when the desert's dry and we've nearly forgotten what we began for.
I admit I scrolled to the comments section because watching Tyler sing was too much like intruding into someone’s pain. To think I didn’t make much of this song… but now it came alive to me.

I read a lot of comments that say they cried while listening, and I can't help but feel left out. I know I started to tear up the first time I heard this song, but I never cried. And as I listened to it more, it almost feels like this is the song. And by the song, I mean THE SONG. The song that can be mine, and is mine. I don't know how, but I just feel so collected and put together when listening to it. Like I wasn't scrambling in my mind for words to describe a feeling that I didn't even know, and still don't know. But now I don't care that I don't know, because someone else does. And he put it into so many words that were just right. Just the right amount. This band isn't just a band. It's an emotion. It's the feeling of understanding. It's a family.
Well, I've cried sometimes, but that is because I can see how much this song affects Tyler (and Dun). How he struggles to sing the words, it's just so emotional, that I can't help it. This is what true music sounds like l-/

It looks like Tyler's walking a thin line between getting really into the beat of the song, and breaking down into a sobbing fit. (Edit: three years later, after growing up a bit and going through a few things, I get it. That's exactly what's happening.)
I am 47 years old and I’ve been a fan of TOP since Car Radio and then Vessel and Blurry Face BUT then started digging deeper and this older TOP songs and lyrics are just amazing. Tyler had a special gift and such deep symbolic lyrics that are unique. I’m years deep listening to them and can’t get enough and understanding lyrics more gives me more reasons to dive deep into all older Songs.

I hate it when people give a different meaning to a song. My wife just thought of a great interpretation to Chlorine from Trench album...but everyone is saying it's about his writing but i think it's about the struggle of tasting something painful from the world("Lovin' what I'm tastin' / Venom on my tongue"). His struggle to find God is heartbraking

It's so so hard when you have a song that has everyone in the band on the verge of tears when you play it. Both Tyler AND Josh are just seconds away from breaking down throughout this entire song. It's so heartbreakingly beautiful. That's how you know it comes from a genuine place.

I am an atheist, and this song has hit me hard. I understand what he is saying in this song. I was raised a christian and lost my faith and can never seem to find God. But i'm trying to, I need help.
I guess there is nothing wrong with that. I know I have lost touch with God but some how I found my way back. I think it is really about how people personally interpret things and what they have taken in from the bible and sermons. I mean I'm not trying to convert you or anything so I hope you don't feel pressured by it. Have you been to church at all since? because sometimes it's maybe that you don't like how the church does things because I believe you have to feel comfortable in a church to take in the message. or is it something else?

I've been there a number of times where God feels so distant, but the truth of the matter is that so often we build portray Christianity as a religion of feelings. "Do I feel Jesus?" and when we don't feel Him all of sudden we're lost and confused. But when you look at Scripture, nobody ever builds there relationship with Christ off of feelings. 1 John 5 says "I write these so that you *know* you have eternal life." Sometimes, God may feel far away, but our comfort is that because of what His Son did for us on the cross and rising from the dead, God no longer is far away from the one who trusts Jesus alone for salvation. I'll be praying for you as you seek. Just know that even when God feels far off, not to look to your feelings, but to look to the truth of His word.

Hey this is in 2018 ☺️... lol... anyways if you notice in most of his performances of addict with a pen Tyler always looks up at the sky. I think he’s trying to communicate with God. Ik it’s prob weird for people who aren’t religious, but for me it makes a lot of sense. He’s crying to God, “and you specialize in dying you hear me screaming father and I’m lying here just crying so wash me with your water” I feel like now in most of his performances, (yes he probably still has a lot of struggles) but now he found purpose, he found a way to live through life. He isn’t hurting as much as he used to (I’m sure singing this song brings back a lot of bad memories, in fact I’m sure singing a lot of his older songs do)so I think while singing this song he’s so appreciative to God for letting him live on, and get through his struggles to be able to preform that song for thousands of people. That was my exact thought, too. I saw all these tøp "fans" on different youtube videos saying that people who heard of tøp through stressed out wasn't real fans and only used that song to be "cool":.. I hated to be a tøp fan at first, but I just began to focus on their music. There are many "old fans" who think they own Josh and Tyler. Those type of persons are in every "fandom".. It's so sad, but just focus on their music, and ignore those crazy "old fans" :D

3:11 wow. Just wow. It just shows how real his lyrics are, they're so emotional and I think that's what we all need. We've become desensitised by our own feelings and thoughts. Tyler sings about them for us which makes the connection between us and him so strong. Tyler and Josh are legends, angels and heroes. A hero isn't someone who stops someone from killing themselves, it's someone who tells them that they will help you through it all and actually does. These two are heroes.
Addict with a pen will always be my favorite twenty one pilot song. I was that person who was lost in the dessert holding on so tightly to what didn’t serve me. I begged the universe to wash me with forgiveness and love at my lowest. You are a victim to your own circumstances that no one can see. I’ve been blessed in so many ways since then every time I hear this song I get so emotional and grateful for where I am today. This is the video that introduced me to twenty one pilots almost 2 years ago and Addict with a pen has been my favourite song of them ever since. It just means so much to me. And now I've come full circle. Nobody cares but I saw them live last week and they played the medley of their old songs at the b stage and I was not even 3 meters away from them when they sang this song and I almost started crying and I was screaming along to all the lyrics even though I can't rap (and I got every single world right. I'm proud of myself). Basically it was one of the best moments of my entire life. Screaming and crying along to one of my favourite songs. And now I'm sitting in bed wearing their tour merch, desperately wishing I could go back to that moment.

Me, too. I guess I heard radio play in 2017 but happened to hit the BBC acoustic of My Blood (Go with You)... and unfortunately I'm on my way out... been on borrowed time for nearly 1.5 years and things seem to be quickly declining. I tend to love acoustic versions and I've spent a couple of weeks listening to it repeatedly. Hurts - as while I feel guilty for feeling this way, I only wish some one had my back at all but so much so they'd literally come stand by my side and go with me. It's my burden yet to have someone at this time or ever really care to that degree.. . I've been crying a lot. I was so strong for these 1.5 years but things are winding down. I hate that NOW I'm angry, depressed and suddenly feeling so very alone. Worse is I didn't even know I did not already have acceptance until I began to experience true terror so back to My Blood... its the image of someone ... who'll jump in that lions den and pull the pin. I spent much of my life fascinated by death and it's been said that man's greatest fear is his greatest obsession. I think the whole human condition revolves around the not knowing for many of us if we simply cease to exist bc then I feel like someone should have told me i had more choice in the whole choosing to be happy when all along I thought i was simply a victim of my own emotions and depression... if this life was in no way a dress rehearsal, I lost so much time. If life here is either heaven or hell, now I realize that I chose hell never knowing I could have had so much more heaven. I listened to this acoustic, almost didn't click it as I've been hearing the radio version until I can't even feel or hear it. I didn't even recognize it at first... totally different song. Tonight which it's now 6am on the dot since I have been saying I will sleep when I'm dead this whole time, I clicked a couple that I hadn't heard. I hear the pattern, the seemingly suicidal vein yet I recall from my years of being a pianist and writing, even wallowing in darkness was divine as feeling anything is magical. At least until you get hurt a few too many times. Then fear of feeling anything but good as in happiness kicks in... I forgot that to enjoy the highest joys, it simply must be balanced against some deep pain. Its as if the deeper the pain the greater the joy. There are no ups if you refuse the downs. What happened for me when i stopped exposing myself to what others may call depressing or dark, I ceased to feel at all. I lived numb. I didn't live at all but simply existed. Its not bad to find satisfaction and passion in the pain because for me, that was to be emotionally healthy. I worked through the feelings with my music, my writing and even watching sad movies on purpose because there is something sweet about pain. When I stopped playing and writing and stopped listening to music that evoked that pain because I had become scared I couldn't take it any longer, I amputated the whole mechanism of balance. It took So many years to be able to look back and realize how integral what others called dark and depressing truly was in life. Basically, it's all good and it will always pay to allow all emotion. No feeling lasts forever unless you get stuck no longer feeling.

I had prejudged them as trendy and written them off, as I felt no new bands past the 90s had anything I was interested in. I could SEE the talent and passion in his face. Coming out of his face. Lol. For some reason it wasn't til this video that I realized how important Josh was to the band. Like Tyler always said Josh made the band who they are today but I always thought "yeah, hes a great and tight drummer, but there are so many other good drummers too". But just seeing the emotion Josh puts into his playing and the unspoken chemistry between the two... You can just feel that these two were meant to play music together.

The way he sings feels so...raw. it almost feels like we should look away, like we're intruding on something so deeply human and personal that it's almost wrong to watch. But we need that. We need someone to create something--some piece of art that's almost disturbing in it's rawness, so we can face our own humanity too. That's what twenty one pilots has done for us. They've given us a mirror in which we can more easily view those parts of ourselves that we want to forget, but must not, and through that process, we begin to heal. Their music isn't just music anymore. It represents us--all of us, as humans, as people who've been broken and who've failed and who still find something within themselves that urges them to press on, even when the desert's dry and we've nearly forgotten what we began for.

I read a lot of comments that say they cried while listening, and I can't help but feel left out. I know I started to tear up the first time I heard this song, but I never cried. And as I listened to it more, it almost feels like this is the song. And by the song, I mean THE SONG. The song that can be mine, and is mine. I don't know how, but I just feel so collected and put together when listening to it. Like I wasn't scrambling in my mind for words to describe a feeling that I didn't even know, and still don't know. But now I don't care that I don't know, because someone else does. And he put it into so many words that were just right. Just the right amount. This band isn't just a band. It's an emotion. It's the feeling of understanding. It's a family.
Well, I've cried sometimes, but that is because I can see how much this song affects Tyler (and Dun). How he struggles to sing the words, it's just so emotional, that I can't help it. This is what true music sounds like l-/

Hey this is in 2018 ☺️... lol... anyways if you notice in most of his performances of addict with a pen Tyler always looks up at the sky. I think he’s trying to communicate with God. Ik it’s prob weird for people who aren’t religious, but for me it makes a lot of sense. He’s crying to God, “and you specialize in dying you hear me screaming father and I’m lying here just crying so wash me with your water” I feel like now in most of his performances, (yes he probably still has a lot of struggles) but now he found purpose, he found a way to live through life. He isn’t hurting as much as he used to (I’m sure singing this song brings back a lot of bad memories, in fact I’m sure singing a lot of his older songs do)so I think while singing this song he’s so appreciative to God for letting him live on, and get through his struggles to be able to preform that song for thousands of people. 3:11 wow. Just wow. It just shows how real his lyrics are, they're so emotional and I think that's what we all need. We've become desensitised by our own feelings and thoughts. Tyler sings about them for us which makes the connection between us and him so strong. Tyler and Josh are legends, angels and heroes. A hero isn't someone who stops someone from killing themselves, it's someone who tells them that they will help you through it all and actually does. These two are heroes.

This is the video that introduced me to twenty one pilots almost 2 years ago and Addict with a pen has been my favourite song of them ever since. It just means so much to me. And now I've come full circle. Nobody cares but I saw them live last week and they played the medley of their old songs at the b stage and I was not even 3 meters away from them when they sang this song and I almost started crying and I was screaming along to all the lyrics even though I can't rap (and I got every single world right. I'm proud of myself). Basically it was one of the best moments of my entire life. Screaming and crying along to one of my favourite songs. And now I'm sitting in bed wearing their tour merch, desperately wishing I could go back to that moment.

Me, too. I guess I heard radio play in 2017 but happened to hit the BBC acoustic of My Blood (Go with You)... and unfortunately I'm on my way out... been on borrowed time for nearly 1.5 years and things seem to be quickly declining. I tend to love acoustic versions and I've spent a couple of weeks listening to it repeatedly. Hurts - as while I feel guilty for feeling this way, I only wish some one had my back at all but so much so they'd literally come stand by my side and go with me. It's my burden yet to have someone at this time or ever really care to that degree.. . I've been crying a lot. I was so strong for these 1.5 years but things are winding down. I hate that NOW I'm angry, depressed and suddenly feeling so very alone. Worse is I didn't even know I did not already have acceptance until I began to experience true terror so back to My Blood... its the image of someone ... who'll jump in that lions den and pull the pin. I spent much of my life fascinated by death and it's been said that man's greatest fear is his greatest obsession. I think the whole human condition revolves around the not knowing for many of us if we simply cease to exist bc then I feel like someone should have told me i had more choice in the whole choosing to be happy when all along I thought i was simply a victim of my own emotions and depression... if this life was in no way a dress rehearsal, I lost so much time. If life here is either heaven or hell, now I realize that I chose hell never knowing I could have had so much more heaven. I listened to this acoustic, almost didn't click it as I've been hearing the radio version until I can't even feel or hear it. I didn't even recognize it at first... totally different song. Tonight which it's now 6am on the dot since I have been saying I will sleep when I'm dead this whole time, I clicked a couple that I hadn't heard. I hear the pattern, the seemingly suicidal vein yet I recall from my years of being a pianist and writing, even wallowing in darkness was divine as feeling anything is magical. At least until you get hurt a few too many times. Then fear of feeling anything but good as in happiness kicks in... I forgot that to enjoy the highest joys, it simply must be balanced against some deep pain. Its as if the deeper the pain the greater the joy. There are no ups if you refuse the downs. What happened for me when i stopped exposing myself to what others may call depressing or dark, I ceased to feel at all. I lived numb. I didn't live at all but simply existed. Its not bad to find satisfaction and passion in the pain because for me, that was to be emotionally healthy. I worked through the feelings with my music, my writing and even watching sad movies on purpose because there is something sweet about pain. When I stopped playing and writing and stopped listening to music that evoked that pain because I had become scared I couldn't take it any longer, I amputated the whole mechanism of balance. It took So many years to be able to look back and realize how integral what others called dark and depressing truly was in life. Basically, it's all good and it will always pay to allow all emotion. No feeling lasts forever unless you get stuck no longer feeling.

I would say this band has saved my life... But that's not quite right. Twenty Øne Pilots has given me the courage to stay alive. Everyone says, "Sarah, he sounds like he's whining. Why are you playing the piano in class? Can you stop singing honestly, you sing everyday. Can you take those earbuds out?" They say these things because they don't understand that without this music I wouldn't be here to write this comment. I hide my emotions, let them ball up. With Twenty One Pilots, I don't feel so... Hopeless. Forlorn. This music has given me the solace I need! They ask why I listen to a guy who sounds like he's whining. I reply, because it's what's keeping me alive. That's like me, I build a shell around me with music, I've become distant. It's almost like I'm not really here but in my own world, I love it. I love the way his music makes me feel. I feel like I can do it and belong here and continue and I have a purpose. I connect with his music more than I have a person and I think he's awesome for giving me an outlet to portray my emotions

still coming back to this. Still get's me the same way. I will always remember the first time I saw this, I had just found TØP that same day. I was in one of the darkest places I've ever been. And I saw so much emotion, so much pain and so much passion, I've never seen anyone drum with such passion and sing with so much emotion. And I started listening to the words and I saw so much thought. And I remember thinking: I have never seen anything like this, and I will never see anything else like this. And I haven't. You can see so much emotion in all of their songs but this one makes my cry it’s so understanding and you can really hear what’s wrong. They have helped so many people with their life and their tough times.
They are truly angels in disguise and they are so influential on everything they do. Tyler puts so much emotion into his songs and so many people deal with the same issues that he’s talking about but Josh and Tyler deserve all of the respect because they have come so far and now we have too.
Everyone who listens to TØP is so amazing as well as Tyler and Josh and I just want to say thank you to them for everything because they make my life complete and help me through a lot.
The raw emotion in Tyler's face is what really gets me. These songs aren't just words. They mean something to Tyler and to Josh and by sharing these songs with the world it can mean something to other people. I find it very easy to relate to tøp's songs and they become personal to me because of that. This band is something special.
