- The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is an ethanol-powered, wild send-off to the Challenger as we know it today. It makes an astounding 1,010 horsepower and 930 pound-feet of torque on E85. The 6.2-liter supercharged V8 is from the Demon and has a new 3.0-liter supercharger and pulley, a new throttle body, bigger fuel injectors, stronger cylinder head studs, new pistons, rods, crank bearings, fluid damper and billet main caps. Dodge says that on a prepped surface with rollout, the Demon 170 will get to 60 mph in 1.66 seconds and do the quarter mile in 8.9 seconds at an excess of 150 mph.

I have to admit, getting something as aerodynamic as a wall, and as heavy as a cement truck, to hook and go like that, is pretty great.

That's with rollout subtracted. True 0-60 will be closer to 2 secs which is still crazy for a rwd street car even if it can only do it on a prepped surface

I also saw 2 other vids on the new Demon 170 - both said 1,025 HP. 1 video said the Tesla Plaid is rated at 1,020 HP electric, and it's 0-60 is 1.9 seconds. Since that video references Tesla Plaid, I'll say Dodge engineers aimed at the Plaid's 1,020 HP and all wheel drive 0-60 of 1.9 secs.

Ethanol was a genius move, it will make a reliable 1000hp. Would’ve been cool to see the oem screen showing ethanol content/mix, and some sort of body style change but I realize that ship has sailed. Can’t wait for brooks from dragtimes to line it up with competition.

As a 60 year old this is what muscle cars are all about, pure unadulterated in your face, kick your ass, power…simple loud obnoxious but damn that sound

Its sad that mopar/dodge at their second peak of time want to move to all EV performance cars, they have been coming out with some amazing stuff these last few years, i wasnt around in the late 60s early 70s, but my dad said this is the closest he has felt to what it was like to have the options of mopar muscle like they did back in the early 70s, so many trim levels, engine options, colors and after market performance, i wish dodge would do both gas combustion and EV performance to fix both parties.
I guess you aren't paying attention! They have to move on from the Hemi! The Charger and Challenger are getting pretty old also. In the 1970's high gas prices, government emissions standards and insurance companies killed the muscle car. Pretty surprised they haven't cracked down yet on today's insane HP for street driven cars.
As it is they are cracking down on Hyundai and Kia for the autotheft problem. Some companies are beginning to refuse to insure them already. Look at the theft problem with Dodges and Rams. I wouldn't be surprised if they are next up to get some insurance company wrath.
They didn't make anything near as fast back in the 60s and 70s. They did have a lot of options which is what nowadays isn't available. You could order a car back then however you wanted. So a car could be built 1 of 1 or 1 of 5 made. Creating a very unique and valuable car. Now, a car is 1 of 5,000 if you're lucky. Every car now is a copy of the same car down the street. Though we do now get the best performing cars ever made. With some even looking great and having many many options to choose from. There are some options that we SHOULD get to choose that we just aren't given.
An example is how Dodge and Ford gave us the options of different gearing for the rear diff on the Challenger and Mustang but Chevy failed to do so on the Camaro. A missed opportunity on GMs part. People who race these cars want the ability to choose their setups for their needs. Even though Dodge only offered 2 different gearing choices, and Ford 3, it is choices that make a difference.

@@ripinpieces8387 Dodge can pull the demon off because they don’t have the viper anymore. Where as with gm while it wouldn’t be difficult to build the Camaro like a challenger. There’s no use to it for them. It would be stepping on the corvette’s toes. I think gm would rather allocate those funds into the corvette. Gm knows they can’t compete with dodge on the charger challenger. But they have a class of car dodge doesn’t because dodge discontinued. Dodge could’ve competed if they kept the viper and made it an option to have manual or automatic. They cut a lot of their consumer base out by keeping it manual only. I also think the viper could’ve been a better time attack car with an auto.
