Use these tips to increase the loudness of your music. Don't forget...no one cares how loud your song is if it sounds like sh*t. The goal for a mix and master in electronic music is to sound dynamic, but be squashed and loud. Let's check out how we can achieve that...
Keep in mind: these can be performed with any plugins (free or $$).

It’s the fact I already know this but I’m too lazy to implement them, and then I wonder why my mix sounds bad 💀

The problem with comparing levels to a reference track is that it’s already mastered.

Absolutely! Check out metric AB! Really helpful plugin that will auto match perceived loudness between your mix and the mastered references. It does way more, but a huge help!

Me: Clip until I hear distortion then back it off slowly until I don't hear it anymore.
Oversampling is up to 8x. (StandardClip sounds the best)
Serial limiting (2x Pro L2 sharing the work) and a final brick wall master limiter (Pro L2)
(Final limiter) Transparent mode, A&T adjusted according to the reference track, TP at -1dbfs. Adjusting the gain till I hit -14lufs or -9lufs.

should the low end be dominant in the mix or the high end?ive heard if the bass is louder than the high end it will destroy the loudness of the mix and vice versa a loud or good amount of high end with results in a louder mix.

    • @ricardopineda3114

it depends of the music style.. techno had a very loud bass .. and we love it

@@ricardopineda3114 yeah i love banging bass right in the face but when ever i let the bass banging like that after the mastering process and upload it to some streaming service, the bass just sucking the life out of everything, while i let everything else be more dominant, the mix sounds kinda clean but not enough bass for me

Usually you want the lows to roughly equal the highs but if you want the track to be brighter have slightly more high end, if you want it darker give it slightly more low end. The low end does eat up a lot of headroom but the majority of the loudness/ power actually comes from the midrange. So if you want a loud mix don’t cut too much midrange 🤫. Plus your mix will sound better in a car with more midrange

Isn't some distortion okay for hip hop drums??

Yeah man it can really add some character to them. Personally I like to use Mackity by airwindows on my drum bus. It emulates a mackie mixer clipping
