The "Do No5 Hump" boxcar,is a Track Geometry car , equipped with lasers and other sensors. "Do Not Hump" refers to hump switching, where the cars are shoved over the top of an incline, and gravity allows the cars to roll down into place..,, it's a highly automated process, and not exactly gentle on the contents of the cars. Hence the rather Large painted warning......it's at a level where the tower operator can't miss it
so humping is basically when they uncouple the cars and it rolls down the grade and stops on its own, this car can't do that and that's why it says "do not hump?"
@@kevinwynott7755 those track geometry cars often have a decommissioned(?) out of use grain car on either end so if the locomotive has to go into emergency the sudden braking is buffered by the extra gaps, as a kind of cushion. The equipment is that sensitive. It’s similar to the old high school science class experiments where students put some kind of protection around eggs so the can survive drops from 10 feet or more.
