Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, American Pie by Don McClean, Riders on the Storm by the Doors, You've got a Friend by James Taylor, to name a few. And how could we forget the Partridge Family or Bobby Sherman?
I love 1971. I was nine years old when dawn hit the charts. I will never forget 1971. For me 1970s will be my favourite year's. I hope everyone agrees with me.
Knew them all, liked them all, and I was a HUGE Three Dog Night fan. But, as God is my witness, until about 10 years ago, I thought Three Dog Night only had three members.
I was 8 years old in 1975 and remember all of these songs. The 70’s are my favorite time. I go down memory lane all the time to the 70’s . Life seems so simple compared to now.
I was 8 years old back then... I remember all of these songs coming out... When you're a kid, you don't realize how young you are... But looking back those were some of the best days
i was a kid in the 70s this was the adult music that was always playing in the background ( my music came later 78-88 punk, new wave and freestyle) But this was real well constructed quality unforgettable music that got stuck in everyone's head and it still brings back feeling a of my pre teen angst also captain snd tenille was my first " grown up" music crush. followed by blondie the gogos and the b52s in 78
@@ChatNoirVibes I started listening to rock and roll around 67 and only listen to rock and roll from the 50s 60s and 70s. Absolutely beautiful music all about love and life's struggles. Thank you 🙏
@@ChatNoirVibes No, the 70’s were “the” very best decade for music and the 60’s we’re second. I graduated from high school in the 70’s and did a bus tour of Europe in the summer of 1970. The 70’s were a very special time. The music with its precise melody and harmony and perfect singing was an emotional high and love in a package and good time music that put a person into a better place !!
A year like no other, in a decade like no other... I wouldn't taint this list by attempting to add my favorites. I love every track here. And as you mentioned they all defined an era!!! Phenomenal!!!
I love the Temptations. To think I was only 30 years old when it was played on the radio. I would give everything and anything if I could go back in time. It’s not going to happen.😮
Amen. Country Roads is my favorite country song. Reminds me of my old home town one state over in Pennsylvania. Remote area of the Allegheny mountains. Which are the geologically oldest mountain range in the world.
Others I would have given a mentioned: Isaac Hayes - Theme From Shaft Labi Safri - It Must Be Love: Joan Baez - The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down Helen Reddy - I Don't Know How To Love Him Honey Cone - Stick Up T-Rex - Hot Love Daddy Cool - Eagle Rock Joe Cocker - Hight Time We Went Gary Wright - Get On The RIght Road Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine The Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar Daddy Dewdrop - Chick A Boom Michael Jackson - Got To Be There Bread - If Blue Mink - The Banner Man Carpenters - Superstar Dave And Ansil Collins - Double Barrell (No. 1 in the UK) Delaney, Bonnie & Friends - Never Endling Love For You The Dudley Moore Trio - Song For Suzy Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds - Don't Pull Your Love
I was 10. My favorites were " One Bad Apple" by The Osmonds. " I'll Take you there" by The Staple singers, "Smiling Faces" (Tell Lies) by Undisputed Truth, " Love the one you with" by The Isley brothers.
Songs 1-3 must've remained on the music charts for greater than a year... I used to hear each of them so often (then, of course, tributes to Lynyrd Skynyrd after the fatal plane crash), during my first permanent duty station tour (beginning in 1976)!
" GO AWAY LITTLE GIRL " , WRITTEN BY THE THEN TEAM OF GERRY GOFFIN & CAROLE KING , RECORDED BY STEVE LAWRENCE IN THE SPRING OF 1963 . I WAS 16 Y/O, A JUNIOR IN HS , IN DENVER, COLO., AT DENVER SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL. ----------I REMEMBER THIS SONG CLEARLY. ------MJL, 77 Y/O
I saw Three Dog Night at their concert at the Deutschlandhalle in Berlin, Germany, back in 1971. The lights lowered, the lighters lit up the doobies; everybody had a rockin' fantastic good time, fantastic doobies, and fantastic music for their live concert. 😊
so many women today are wondering why they can't find or get a man well I'm gonna tell you ladies if you need a close to a perfect example of a world class lady they then just study this lovely woman she's what all men are dreaming of. thank you Dawn for everything R.I.P
Love all of these, you missed a couple of great Elvis songs 😉. Also, I was 12 that year and know everything about all those artists and songs, love them all. Anyone my age needs no explanation. We would rather hear less explaining and more song 😅. God bless 🙏
I was 13 in 75 so my taste ran a little bit bubble gum. Captain and Tennille wer big favorites, then Elton John, then John Denver and so on but I loved all of the music back then, and for a couple bucks you could go to your local record store and buy it on a 45 and play it over and over until you were sick of it! ♥️ the 70’s 👍
Knock 3 Times - (Similar to a song supposedly written by Ed Norton and Ralph Kramden in 'The Honeymooners') *Just My Imagination ' - Country Roads - Go Away Little Girl - Indian Reservation + How Can You Mend A Broken Heart? - One Bad Apple - It's Too Late - I Feel The Earth Move - Ady May + Joy to the World -
If you talk about vocal harmonies, then you must miss the R&B Soul vocal groups 😢. They are ranging from The Supremes and The Temptations in 1960s to Boyz II Men and Xscape in the 1990s.
Which one is your favorite? Did we miss anything?
One Bad Apple cause it’s the one that teleports me back to when I was a kid.
I've Found Someone Of My Own - Free Movement
Theme From Shaft - Issac Hayes
Just my Imagination. That would make my top ten for the entire decade.
Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, American Pie by Don McClean, Riders on the Storm by the Doors, You've got a Friend by James Taylor, to name a few. And how could we forget the Partridge Family or Bobby Sherman?
Yes ,that's true , tooooo much talking
I wish we could all go back to the 70s and 80’s they were the best
U'd miss ur cell phone 😂
60s too
Rod Stewart Maggie May would be my #1 of these songs.
Bee Gees forever!!!!
These songs bring back memories of when I was a child. Love em.
Same here. Joy to the World takes me back to a time that seems so far away now.
MAggie Mae is an awesome song, still. Still on my play list.

Knew them all, liked them all, and I was a HUGE Three Dog Night fan. But, as God is my witness, until about 10 years ago, I thought Three Dog Night only had three members.
The black drummer Floyd Sneed for Three Dog Night was a Canadian from Calgary, Alberta.
The had 3 lead vocalists.
Probably not your fault. You only ever heard of Cory, Chuck and Danny. Same with me, although on their albums you did see other musicians.
Lol you probably never seen them on tv with all the other members 😂
One of them said one time that one of them had puppies
I was 11 in ,,71 and I still love this music it's the music of my youth!!!
I was 11 in 1971.....I loved the 70's and 80's, today's music can never compare!!
Me 2 1/2 ...

I turned 9 in ‘71. My 20 year old son loves 70’s music. He was sitting out on our porch cranking them out just the other night.
Would be great if you let the songs play much longer ❤
A good list. Beegees my favorite
Watched the 70,000 Germans sing "Country Roads" at the NFL game in Germany.
They didn't miss a word.
Three Dog Night, Stampeders, Lighthouse, April Wine. It was all good. Great time to be young
Wasn't April Wine in the 80's?
April 1971 was when my beloved mentor first took me under her wing. "Joy to the World" puts me straight back there.
i was a kid in the 70s this was the adult music that was always playing in the background ( my music came later 78-88 punk, new wave and freestyle)

Carol King’s “Tapestry” ruled all of 1971. It was an epic album.
I was 15 in 71. Love these songs😊❤

I graduated in 1976and I really liked this. And I agree that rod stewarts song is number one.
Foreigner was, and still is, awesome. They've lasted decades while others drifted away to the pagrs of time. I saw Foreigner in concert two weeks ago.
Was so excited when Country Roads came out. I grew up WV and it was rare that WV was ever acknowledged
Amen. Country Roads is my favorite country song. Reminds me of my old home town one state over in Pennsylvania. Remote area of the Allegheny mountains. Which are the geologically oldest mountain range in the world.

A couple of bucks? I bought One Bad Apple for a $1 and i was ten yrs old. I saved my nickels and dimes for that record, lol.
Nothing can come close to Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry" & a close run-up is "Rock Me Baby"!
I had the biggest crush on Olivia Newton-John back then.
Who didn't?
1971 I got home from the Marines, Jimi and Janis were dead and this is what we were left with?? Oh well
I use to listen to a lot of Led Zeppelin in 1975
I would go back to 1971 knowing what I know now. This gs would be a lot different
I agree with tomlinson
Check the charts radio airplay, box -office, LP Sales... mmm, OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN!

I agree they were sadly missing from the list
❤❤
Well the best music in 1971 was on FM radio not AM llike the songs on this list.
A LOT less talking and more music. The music is stand alone and self explanatory, WITHOUT the voice talking over the tunes!
I’ve never seen that picture of Dawn. The group I knew was Tony Orlando, Joyce Vincent Wilson, and Telma Hopkins.
❤
Danoff & Nivert went on to become half of Starland Vocal Band who, I believe, were the first act signed to Denver' Windstar records
Yes, “Afternoon Delight”!!
