    Rich, not sure if you remember me but I was meant to be running Manchester but my wife was hit by a car a week before the race? After a long 8 months in hospital with 8 weeks in a coma. My wife is now home and I’m running London on a ballot place, but for Brain Research UK. Will be good to follow your videos as our training progresses. Hope all goes well.

    Definitely following this journey... I've been targeting your times since your sub 20 min 5K video, and I've still not quite hit them yet as I hit 50 next year. I was aiming at sub 3:30 for my Spring marathon, but might up it a little following your training. I like the videos, keep them coming - good luck with this! I find Runalyze "marathon shape" to be my best predictor - 3:47 now with a 3:10 optimal predicted if I hit the average mileage per week and 30K long runs each week.

    Great stuff Rich, your ability to talk and run at the same time is a rare talent! I can barely speak running a slow 5k ("thank you Marshall" is as far as it goes) Good luck with that training!

    • @TheRichKeeble
      @TheRichKeeble  9 месяцев назад

      haha thank you, well it took me a while to be able to do that I think. You should check out Ben Parkes chatting away like it's nothing while running a marathon at 3:45min/km!

  • @benjaminbrown8591
    @benjaminbrown8591 9 месяцев назад +1

    I genuinely commend you for your ability to run your slow runs slow. I find it so tricky not to end up going quicker than I should. Getting tuned in the right pace should serve you well through training

    • @TheRichKeeble
      @TheRichKeeble  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Benjamin! When I started properly doing Zone 2 type training it was really tedious as I would have to run nearly 7min/km sometimes and walk hills - I remember doing that when I started my first marathon training 2 years ago. However as I've stuck with it I've found I can now run in Zone 2 as quick as 5:30min/km and sometimes faster with no elevation, and of course that's far more enjoyable. A big thing for me was working on my form - I found that running that slow my form was really sloppy and my cadence was really low, like below 150 maybe. Teaching myself to increase my cadence even on slow runs by taking smaller steps made a big difference, so running even 170 cadence on slow runs. Made a huge difference to my running economy, stopped me overstriding as well. Oh and not caring how slow you're running on strava is a big one. Good luck!

    Looking forward to following you get this goal! I'm doing my first marathon in Krakow in April aiming for sub 3:50. Also using Ben Parkes' plan (level 3)!

    • @TheRichKeeble
      @TheRichKeeble  9 месяцев назад

      Thanks Dylan and good luck to you! I'm jealous actually - I'd love to do Krakow because that's where my wife and I met! It just happens at an annoying time of year with the kids being at school etc. One day though! Yes... 80K weeks are heavy, but supposedly that's a good amount where things start to happen for a lot of people... We'll see!

    Hi Rich, had you done much/any running before your first marathon? Have you been an active person ordinarily? Seems like some very strong times for your first marathons, great work. I recently turned 40 and would like to do my first marathon, little bit apprehensive about it.

    • @TheRichKeeble
      @TheRichKeeble  9 месяцев назад

      Thanks mate! I started running during the first UK lockdown in March 2020, and apart from a bit of kung fu and some weight lifting in the early 2000s I spent most of my 20s and 30s not being very active at all if I'm honest. I don't play any sport. Even after I started running I was running a lot in 2020, but then got lazy in 2021 and basically went into that first Brighton 2022 marathon having barely run the previous few weeks. I think I probably am slightly genetically advantaged as I ran my first ever 5K in just under 29 minutes, like the second time I'd gone out for a run, which is quite good I think. For your first marathon I would just not worry too much about a time. I got locked into sub 4 for some reason, but I put a lot of pressure on myself. Good luck!

  • @SpecialFX99

    Your times are uncanny compared to me. My PR was 3:53 for years, improved that to 3:39 this year and (now for the bad part) I was attempting 3:10 when I got the 3:39. I had a 1:35 first half and then my stomach ruined me and I had a very bad positive split😢

    • @TheRichKeeble
      @TheRichKeeble  9 месяцев назад +1

      oh no! Sorry to hear about the stomach issues. I actually didn't have the perfect time with the gels on my first marathon... was very glad there were toilets near the finish. How funny about the times though! 3:39 is a very respectable time of course!

    • @saintsaens21
      @saintsaens21 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheRichKeeble Absolutely. 3:20 might be more manageable, 3:10 is a beast which several sub 40 min 10k runners I know have failed at. Check your garmin estimates too (I remember your video last year on the topic :)

      @TheRichKeeble  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@saintsaens21 ah thank you for watching! The garmin was actually pretty close to what I managed to achieve so we’ll see what that says. It also agreed with some other thing I’ve forgotten the name of that looked at strava data. We’ll see nearer the time. And if I got 3:20 I’d be pretty happy - but don’t tell anyone
