Hi Gerry! I'd strongly recommend having VW investigate or at least quote you for the work. It may be the same fox as the video shows however the method could be different or have other steps if the design of the port has changed. ID4s are very new so they shouldn't be giving trouble like this so soon in my opinion but if it's out of warranty it could be a significant VW bill to repair unfortunately. Best of luck!
Hey! Yep I highly recommend swapping out the original and adding some grease every few weeks. Mine has had no issues since and I grease it every 8 weeks or so.
Very good question! I hadn’t considered this as I’ve no way to test but I’d seriously doubt it’s different. If you do try please let me know and I can add a note in the video and the video description to help Passat GTE owners who come here 😊
Nice video, On my car however, the charge port is stuck closed. I can't get the actuator part out because it is stuck on the flap. Any ideas how to get it loose?
Thanks mate, I had that same problem in the past. What fixed it for me was spraying in some WD40 around the actuator to temporarily lubricate it and then gently lifting back the rubber seal to manoeuvre a thin steel rod to manually press it in until it released. Be mindful though because another time I thought it was stuck I just had to press the unlock button on my key a few times and give the flap a bit of a bang with my palm to get it ti open. Hope this helps, there’s probably another more official way in too, if you do get it open make sure to lubricate it with a tiny bit of grease or something (not more WD40) so it doesn’t happen again, good luck!
I need urgent help. I have exactly the same problem but I have an Egolf. Unfortunately I can't find this device on the internet. Is it the same as this GTE? And if not, would you know where to get it?
Hey Romeo, sorry for the delay in replying. This should be the exact same part number from the video description for GTEs and eGolfs. You’ll find it hard to find the part online as it’s Volkswagen that sell it so you’ll need to find your nearest Volkswagen dealership that has a service and parts department to order it in from Germany for you.
Hey @Rizwan it's from Amazon, I just went to look it up for you an it's currently on sale so I put the link in the video description for you (full disclosure this is an affiliate link but I stand by this product, it's SOLID)
What happened when it doesn’t charged? Green light it’s not on nor in the dashboard. This happened after 5 days roadtrip being on gasoline and the day after I returned home and plug it in it didn’t charged. Tried 3x
@@ayvanna7770 sorry to hear that, I’ve never had that problem myself so I’d check there’s no tripped switches at your fuse board or blown fuses in the car. If all that looks good you might need VW to check it out.
+1 on the thanks! My actuator just failed so I'm going to attempt the replacement myself. Great to have a video guide. Did you have any problems unclipping the grill?
Thanks for the kind words Conor, this was my goal! Couldn’t find any guides myself so I made one. Once all the screws are removed the grill comes off easy. All you have to watch is the connection for the actuator (ie. Gently lift the grill as the wiring is still connected). There’s also a small rubber drain tube for the water that gathers inside the charge port when open in the rain. This is pretty flexible though just make sure to align it when putting the grill back on. 😊
Well job done, you were right removing the grill was easy enough. My actuator was jammed in the locked position so I had to break it apart to get it out and found a very rusty inside which probably explains the failure. Delighted to be back partially running on electrons, thanks again.
@@conorlmurphy I know the feeling! ⚡️ There’s some info in the description on the replacement part which was more affordable thank expected for a genuine VW part. This will stop the jamming from happening again for a number of years.
@@conorlmurphy I currently have the same issue. Loadport is still in locked position. Is it possible to unscrew/open without destroying the actuator? I don't have the replacement part yet, but would like to keep the loadport "open" so I can at least charge the car. Not sure if thats an option haha.
@@Barry_Kavanaghhi i have tried this. I took the screws off but the grill wont come off. Tried with a bit of force still nothing. Dont want to damage anything. Any advice thanks
I’m sorry to hear that mate, it’s can be tricked to pry it open without damaging it. It happened to me once and I was able to pull back the soft rubber seal around the flap and insert the thin and long straw part of a lubricant spray and sprayed the actuator a few times, left it for about an hour to let it soak down to the base of the actuator and it opened like magic then. Hope that helps you.
That’s great news! I’d recommend lubricating the actuator once a month if you charge every day or once ever 2-3 months if you charge less frequently to prevent it happening again. If it becomes problematic you can always follow the above video to easily replace it with a new one.

You’re very welcome! The part is plug and play so as it needs no programming it shouldn’t throw any errors. It is however, capable of triggering the “tailgate open!” alert so perhaps it’s linked to that if the part you got is faulty. Alternatively as with most persisting errors I’ve had with my GTE (very few) they were all traced back to a blown fuse or the wrong fuse type for the feature (for example the previous owner of mine had a 3amp fuse for a feature that required a minimum of 5amps so it blew). Hope this helps, Barry.
Thank you. I was just looking at doing the exact same replacement.
Hey Jake! No problem, couldn’t find it myself so I decided to make it to help anyone who may find themselves in the same pinch!
Hi Barry, I have this problem with my id4 electric car, can I replace it myself easy enough or do I need to book it in to VW?
Gerry

where can I order a charging hatch
Hey, I would try your nearest Volkswagen dealership.
is it the same for the 2015 gte?
Hey! I would assume so given their similarities. Keep the receipt though just in case!
