    I can do everything here in Sketchup.
    Sketchup isnt only about straight walls...You can use sketchup for curved designs and classic architecture as well.
    Then export to UE to give it finishing touch.

      True yeah, although i stopped using Sketchup in 2012. It was quite new and unpolished at the time, but i always had trouble with the topology being terrible when exported. Although I'm sure over 10 years later it has improved ten fold. I might look back into it again

    I just wish there were audio so that this can be a teachable subject. For example, I can build this mansion. - but the whole pipeline from Blender to Unreal has not sink in yet for me. For example, do you bake all the materials on 1 UV before exporting it? And do you do the lights and transparencies in the game engine? 1000 question that never gets answered.

    how did you solve the lighting issue bleeding through the cracks where the modular parts connect ?

      As long as you have used the snap properly and have faces with normals projected front and back you should not have any light bleed. If you do, its likely that your corners are not snapped together correctly which is a commpn issue
      You can use vertex snapping to snap one vert directly on top of another, hope that helps

      Im using the actual rotate tool instead of the "R" shortcut and then i lock the axis with the middle mouse button and move the object in the direction i want to move. Hope that helps

      Thanks man, It was just a personal project i worked on to keep sharp with the Blender skill set. It didn't really have a purpose other than that. I did break it up in the end and use it inside a Unity project to create a few houses for a town but nothing really came of it in the end. The prefabs are just collecting dust on my hard drive right now 😂

    i was wondering really how to deal with modular assets(for game assets), as a asset seller(just beginning, i'd like to rather make modular assets than non-customizable ones), so customers won't have same assets in their games projects

      Hey thanks! Yeah the second software is called Marmoset Toolbag. Just gotta import your textures into there and build the materials, they can then be dragged onto your objects easily. Its a great rendering software 👍

      Thanks for watching !😎 Yeah i put it together in Blender so i could make specific modifications on the fly as i went. I normally would bring in each of the components individually but for the sake of making corrections to textures or making cuts in the geometry for instance, to do it actively in blender first is better than sending the mesh back and forth between Blender and the Engines. I hope that explains it

      In all it was 4 or 5 days with 8 to 10 hours per day, so roughly 40+ hours i would guess

    Does the inside have planes sticking out or does it not matter? I always wondered if the inside is done as a different instance in a game or if it needs to be clean.

      Yeah these modules are made to be interactive inside and out. I will be expanding on interiors once i get a chance so hopefully it will all make sense in the end. This is just the first section of 3 parts covered.

    Amazing work! Could you help to understand? Is unwrapping process for texturing was done automatically or there is kind of trick?

      Yeah there is a bit of a trick to it in this case, to get the textures to line up seamlessly you gotta make sure you are filling the UV square as perfectly as possible. I actually have a tutorial series in the works that covers how i did it, hopefully you might find it useful 😉

    Nice model, but is 58K vertices low poly ?

      Yes, it is! I would understand why it might seem high but if you consider the objects scale, its a level in itself. Resident Evils "Spencer Mansion" for example was a base for an entire section of game and with further optimization and culling 58k for a level with todays engine capabilities is very very low. Consider Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, her hair alone weighs in at 200k vertices. I think nowadays though, its considered better practice to optimize shaders and textures rather than models, but its always a good idea to keep performance in mind regardless of task.       Thanks! I learned mostly by trying things out and seeing what works and what doesnt. There are some videos that cover the modularity basics but a lot of them feel partial and disjointed. Its best to get in and just start experimenting with the snap settings and see what happens 😎
      Yes i will be expanding on the interiors hopefully soon, free time is very hard to find these days

    Hi, can you please tell me where can I learn more about the modular environment? Any good course or channel you can recommend?
    I do not understand how to calculate the dimensions, as well as how to determine the required number of modules, and how to correctly texture all this

      I think its more about learning how to use your grid snapping functions and understanding world space rather than having an absolute tutorial to learn from. I personally did not learn from a tutorial, i kind of just figured it out bit by bit. I'm not a master with modular design by any means, but if there was enough interest i would be willing to make a small tutorial about how i go about it personally. Again I'm not a master, i just figured out one of many techniques 😎

      One of the best things you can do for a modular environment if you want to practice making them is find a photo of a building, go into photoshop or any other photo editing software just to outline and spot where the building looks similar. Seeing where a building repeats itself can give you a good idea what pieces you need to make.
      Next it would be best to block it out. (Aka work in squares) you don’t want to focus too much on making it look cool in the beginning, you just want to make the modular kit functional at first. Taking a 6ft cube or reference character can help you size the walls and door pieces properly. Just make sure that you use your grid to work in whole numbers. Working in 5s can give you more leeway but 10s can help with snapping the project together easier.
      Just remember that pivots points are REALLY IMPORTANT! Make sure you have your pivot point on an edge vert of your mesh then drag that to point to be the center of your scene. The reason why this is important is because if you export it to a place like unreal and make the building in there you will need your pivot point will need to be on an edge in order to snap to other walls. It may look like a mess that your pieces are all in one place but have all your pivots at 0,0 makes it a ton easier when working with other engines.

    You have a great job! And I'm worried about 5000 faces of one building for a mobile game in Unity. Is that acceptable? How would you texture the same model but for a mobile game in Unity? Texture atlases?

      Hey thanks man, much appreciated! Yeah with a model like this for mobile, a texture atlas is definitely the way to go. You could also make use of the camera culling to hide any geometry not seen directly by the camera to boost performance. For example, if you were stood at the front of the building, there is no need to render the interior or rear of the building. Camera culling can hide that geometry which is a huge save on draw calls and system resources. Hope that's helpful for ya man.

      @@dominatorN4 Absolutely yeah. As long as you keep aware to optimize where possible and use camera culling to hide the unnecessary geometry, you wont have any problems. I have made entire cities in Unity using this technique and it never gave me any problems. Just reuse meshes and textures where possible and batch them to keep the draw calls low 👍

      Honestly, i don't remember! 😂 I think i worked on it off and on for 4 weeks with about 3 hours per day. Also i should mention that roughly 75% of the video was not recorded coz its just cutting UV's and its really hard to make that exciting to watch. The video recording itself is sped up x8

      In the later stages yeah, i always use reference. Starting off however i really just like to explore and see what i can come up with. I just let the design happen and i will polish up the smaller details by referencing real images

      Yeah sure, the process is mostly the same but just be aware of optimization as you go. Once you stick to using the grid snapping there's no reason modular interiors should give you any trouble

      @@JohnnyBlackWinter it is curious but when I made my pieces of the exterior it works well, but in the case of interiors, as every wall of the interior have a margin it is a little bit complicated, because Im trying to put everything like a lego, because almost pieces dont fit at all.

      @@mishabytes8209 Yeah i get ya, once you are modeling anything with thickness like interior walls, it can be hard to calculate it properly. One way i go about it is to move the actual pivot point around to fix the rotations, very useful on corners and supports. I have a small tutorial series coming up soon, i go over some interior stuff. It might be worth checking out and seeing if there's something you can pick up from it

    normally do we need to put all the animation and fonction to door/windows? for the game dev s team?. or juste do 3D

      It usually differs from role to role, but there would usually be a separate department that would deal with that side of everything. That being said, it never hurts to have that ability yourself and if you do, why not do it as you go!
