man it’s crazy being able to simultaneously understand what they’re saying while reading the subtitles. i never realized just how much subtext and emotion gets lost in translation. if i only understood these people through the english subtitles, i’d probably hate them thinking they were super cold and judgemental, when in reality, in their mother tongue, there’s a lot more warmth and friendliness.
I'm not sure why, but coming from a tribal place, even if I know that a lot of warmth is lost, I still get this feeling that it's just the normal way countryside people respond to new things, and that telling stories like that is indeed not a sign of hostility... not sure if the big city people get it though...
Even as an American who only speaks english, I can tell that what is being written is sometimes a crude or simplified version of what is being said. I wish I could get a full translation, but I think their friendliness comes across in their expressions and gestures. Sometimes translating from one language to another is tough because there isn’t a one to one translation. A lot of words rely on the tone of the conversation and sometimes require further explanation, even within the same language. I love these people and this is one of my favorite channels.

I'm not certain but by "healthy" I'm assuming they don't mean the Western idea of healthy.
There's some traditional medicine notion that certain foods or drinks align with specific ailments people experience. So a "healthy" good usually offsets an ailment caused by too much or too little of something.
Having a balance between the 4 possible characteristics makes you a "healthy" person without ailments bad enough to stop you from working.

@Qimodis it's not to do with ingredients. There's like 8 aspects of healthiness in that type of traditional medical thinking iirc. They are hot&cold, spicy&sweet, dry&wet then salty&sour. Imagine each one set on a compass at each direction. "Healthy" is maintaining the body in the center point of everything.
If you are sick with the flu a traditional medicine practitioner may say you are too close to the "cold", "dry" and "sour" points and should ingest some hot and salty light soup.
It's weird to take seriously if you've only been exposed to western medicine.

I love how Peer always wants to enjoy the new foods, and really explores the entire experiences (including the packaging). When he truly dislikes something, you can see the disappointment on his face. Mahbub doesn't like a lot of foods he has tried but, when he does, his face just lights up and it is really nice to see. Despite our differing cultures, we can still find things to enjoy from one another.
Mahbubs face when he ate the pizza pringle was a joy to see. I don't like pringles very much but those ones are good!

Since one pack of pringles probably costs more than 25 local bags of chips you can definitely tell it's higher quality than what they're used to. One of the people in the vid referred to some brand costing 5 rupees, that is the equivalent of $ 0.067 . When they asked how much it costs, the guest said they forgot, but I'm pretty sure they didn't want to disclose the actual value because it would've seemed like a huge amount for them.
TL ; DR : They think higher quality = good for health.

Yes! That is a perfect description of Peer! I was trying to think of a way to express my impressions of him and you did it in the most accurate and eloquent way possible! @@LindaC616 it is true. Leme get this right..color is based off of light. The colors u see on clothes and paint is called pigment. When u mix all the pigment colors u get a dark muddy color BUT if u use true colors, based on light, and mix all the true colors together you get white but not pigment white but like a light. I imagine it like the white glow of a bulb sort of. I hope i got this right cos it was explained to me years ago.

It's sad and interesting at the same time. Interesting because of the people. As a tourist before 2020, my interactions were only a bit of price haggling (it's fun, too bad we don't have it here in Germany) and avoiding the touts. Didn't get any stomach ache from the local food.
To be fair, the American diet is fairly diverse since other culture's dishes (Mexican food, Italian pasta, sushi, etc) are pretty common here as well.

Peers always so humble. I love that he always explains everything he's doing. Literally if you understand their language, you can close your eyes and still understand what he's doing. wow.
I really wish I can understand what they say. I'm very thankful to the subtitles, but no translation can really capture the essence of any language.
