  • Excellent instructional video featuring Hung Gar master Chiu Chi-Ling. You may remember Ling from a number of old school kung fu movies such as Jackie Chan's Snake in the Eagles Shadow and many more.

I'm trying to learn Hung Gar for disipline reasons. Before anyone says (then join a school you won't learn nothing on the internet) people have learned how to repair phones, dance, ride horses, train dogs, learn math equations, and hell even prepare for giving birth. Yes having a master to re-enforce your actions and movements is a blessing but when you are less privileged and all you have is a glowing box with the info of the world you take advantage. Maybe one day I'll go to a school, but atleast I won't go into that school knowing nothing ^__^ Pray to meet Grand Master Chiu Chi Ling in the flesh one day!!

lilkittyanime just remember that no martial art is good if it does not feel natural to you. modifying any technique after some practice with it is very encouraged.
good luck. i know you can do it.

Hung gar looks sick. I always thought hung fu just was people dancing with no applicable moves in a real situation. But now, I am definitely going to learn it!

Choy Li Fut is probably the most different of the three, as is incorporates more of the five animal systems. The stances in CLF are higher than Hung Gar, but not as high as Wing Chun. CLF also combines techniques of Northern and Southern Kung Fu, giving it high kicks, long range attacks, circular movements(hooks, uppercuts), multiple direction attacks and defenses, weapons, and lots of grappling, making it a truly complete system. I'd learn all three if I could.

  • @FunkyFyreMunky
    @FunkyFyreMunky 12 лет назад +1

I do all 3, my Sifu is a fan for using what works and having a range of styles for different situations. He also incorporates some jiu-jitsu and chin-na/chin yi for grapple work and take-downs, but our main style is 50% WC, 20% HG, 20% CLF, 10% other styles for more locks and takedowns. I love my school.

and they're all based around the crane and tiger. Wing Chun has a bit of snake mixed in, as Choy Li Fut has leopard. They also blend quite nicely, with most techniques being interchangable depending on the range you want to work in.

@rosc2876 The tension is always there even when flowing so when you see people doing the form, you can tell if they are good or not if they are able to incorporate the tension within the flowing movements. I'm guessing the reason why he's doing the form this way is to show people new to the style all the tension that's incorporated. Softness within hardness, hardness within softness

I agree, I competed at a national tournament recently and there was an older guy in a kung fu ring on his own who started doing the form and I was amazed but then other people started laughing and asking what he was doing, obviously most people don't realize it is meant to help you practice your breathing.

I know he looks like he's gonna pop an eyeball, but through the opening moves of the form chi is cultivated through, well basically Qi Gong, extremely hard Qi Gong. My fist 3 mo. Of training was almost all Qi Gong, and conditioning, or as my sifu says "Gung Fu strength". I didnt learn a form ( our first being lau gar) and only a frew basic blocks and strikes. Fu hok emphasizes breat

Learning a lot of forms, isn't always good.... You have to learn it correct and really understand it. An important part is, is the knowledge of your teachers.
By the way a lot of video's on youtube are giving a bad example (not saying that this video is bad) of martial art techniques.

That's good. So then you'll basically know how to take techniques from this video and be able to integrate them into your fighting and practice. Regarding dragon style.. it's one of the lesser known and really less popular styles. Even in all the older kung-fu movies it's hardly really shown. There are over 200 styles, and out of those only a dozen or so are really popular or well known among kung-fu fans and martial artists alike. Many others have even become lost. Thanks.

Squishypride Hmm I would say it just like what bruce lee did. He learned things from 3 different teaches but in the end he used those styles to make it into his own thing that worked effectively for him. And it won't look the same as his teachers but it would work perfect for him.

Have to mention that this video was recorded 30 year-ago, and even now this old guy can kill you with one punch......
Punching in air? Seems you know nothing about martial arts.
Perhaps you might think those MMA or "practical" street fight are real martial arts.
The reality is the best fighters never fight in the rings, demonstrating like an actor... (The show are controlled by some parties and they earn huge cash)
The Best fighter are the coach of military service.
All these Kung fu guys "punching in air" are invited to different countries' military and teach martial arts.
