GenX here! 1974! I am forever grateful that I grew up when I did. Whenever I think I hate getting old, I remember I would 1000% rather be old now than to have to be a kid now or at any time recently. Especially since the dawn of IPads 🙄 I have found a few awesome GenX themed channels, and I love ya'll ❤️ New sub!
Man, we had it so good growing up! We would plan out our costumes for weeks in advanced, build them, test them, and then the big reveal on the big night! So much fun. Where I grew up it was "let the kids lose on the streets, be home in an hour'ish". The neighborhood we live in now . . . we didn't get a single knock last year and it's a good neighborhood. It's just people do the trunk-or-treat stuff now or the HOAs have parties that people go to. Just not the same.
Damn I thought I was gonna be the one with egg on my face but it was you 😂😂 That egg in your eye story sounded painful 😅 Halloween wasn't a big thing in the Uk when I was a kid but we tried to make it a thing 😄 I always thought in the US it was like the movie clip you showed but I guess its not, or at least, not anymore 🙁 That Chuckie clip at the end though 😂👌🏻
I never had a bad trick or treat. 5pm to 11pm where I lived. Some of the houses around the hood would turn their garages into haunted houses. When we were older teens we would rent movies like faces of death.
I remember back in the 80's, the older ladies would cook treats, because it was more affordable than buying candy. That's when we lived in a small town. As soon as mom would let us go, we would want to go to this one street first. That's where the old widows had been cooking up a storm. There were popcorn balls, brownies, peanut butter cookies, and one lady would make caramel apples. They were wrapped up in cling wrap. So then we would go hand those to mom so we could put candy, mostly hard candy, in our bags. There were a lot of suckers and tootsie pops and jolly ranchers and of course the Brachs candies given out. Remember the Brachs candies you could get at the store? I liked their coconut ones and the tootsie pop kock offs they had. Also their cinnamon candies. But it was quite fun! Now I think the kids go to carnivals at the school or community centers instead.. I hardly get any trick or treators here. I used to love handing out the candy and seeing their costumes. It was so much fun as an adult!
It's refreshing to see videos about gen x. We are completely overlooked in all discussions about mainstream american culture. Anyone born in the 70s are nowhere on the radar. Anyhow....I never thought the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown would ever fall out of favor amongst kids. Of course children today have endless streaming Halloween cartoon options. My family made our own costumes as well. We sought out the rich neighborhoods for the best candy. Good times in Raytown Missouri.
Halloween has changed alot since we were kids. I live on a busy street, and haven't gotten even one kid knocking on my door for Halloween in over 10 years now. I still buy candy every year to give out, but still nothing. Seems to be more for the adults nowadays instead of the children. Really sad to see.
The technology of today's costumes is just amazing especially those plush costumes where you would have to go to Disneyland when you were a gen-xer in the 1970s-1980s to see anything like that
My neighbors go all out and they carpool kids to our neighborhood. If people aren’t participating it’s because candy is crazy expensive and we get 400+ kids. Always made our costumes. No money for store bought costumes
It’s completely dark. I’ve got tons of Cheetos and chocolates. Full size too, no mini snack nonsense. Not one trick or treater! I’ll give them until 8:00pm. But they better have a legit costume, even if it is homemade. ¡Me encanta tu Chucki en español!
We call it giving tribute to take the candy My daughter is 12 and I still check her candy exactly like you said my daughter loves the old people candy lol ...
I was kidnapped as an infant by some lady and a man in a van as an infant in another country in the 1970s possibly to be sold as a black market baby to couples who couldn't have children. My parents caught them immediately and they still let me go trick-or-treating
yeah we had a dad and son dressed in matching bear costumes a mom and dad kid and a group of 12 13yr olds just walk right on by even with the light on it def not the same really disappointing
What the crap is "red and black day??" Have schools really started phasing Halloween out?? Man, I remember in the mid 80's when I was in elementary, my school would deck out the gym every year and throw a huge after school Halloween party. We'd have carnival style games, and bobbing for apples and costume contests, and guessing how many seeds were in that year's giant pumpkin, etc etc. We'd all play around there until it started getting dark, then we'd all leave and spend the next couple hours trick or treating! Sometimes we'd run the neighborhood in one costume, go home and change into a different costume, and run the neighborhood again.. there was so many kids running around that cars couldn't even drive down certain blocks.. ...red and black day though?? I wonder what marginalized group of angry social justice warlords decided we needed that crap.. I bet it was the damn lesbians, they friggin' ruin everything 😤
Thats just parent / dad tax on the candy broski!! Halloween used to be cool.. now its lame and candy cost your whole funkin paycheck!! Errything is goin to shit 🤔
Whats up Rad Family! What was your favorite memory of Halloween in the 70s and 80s? Let me know below!

You gain weight every year around that time, Candy, then thanksgiving and Christmas.
@dreadassembly4087 🤣😆true!
Good times. I remember making a Frankenstein costume. Found an old jacket and then took wine corks and glued to my neck. Haha.

@irockhard2538 thanks for letting me know. That's so awesome to hear🎃🤙
It was a big deal, you were able to dress up and go to school. You could pretend to be whoever you wanted. It was fun. Candy was a real treat.

The good ole days. In the 80's. The C++ ruined this holiday. Or schools who take away halloween and do red and black day instead
