    What stores carry pre pureed foods in their freezer for cold section? My husband has Dysphasia and his eating and swallowing have deteriorated rapidly so he is extremely thin. With his Dementia a rigid schedule is important. This video was very helpful.

    Also just wondering how you make it really smooth. What blade are you using in the blender please.? …really helpful recipes. Much appreciated!

      Hi Beth, thank you for your question. See my above response regarding lumps/smoothness. When I puree food, I use a food processor or an emersion blender. Glad you liked the recipes! Please reach out with any other questions!

      Hi Beth, please watch this video again as a warning. It’s pretty straightforward to purée vegetables and fruit but meat is much harder obviously. Purée should be the consistency of toothpaste and should drop off a spoon when turned upside down. Remember the consistency of toothpaste - therefore absolutely no lumps larger than that of the tiny bits in toothpaste - think about for a second. The only 99% sure device to get the correct consistency is a Robot Coupe blender. If you use anything else - hand blender or ordinary food processor then the chances are you will still have unwanted larger lumps.

    Do you need to add a thickener? If so, where do you find them? When I try to puree, it either comes out too thin, like soup, of too lumpy. What's the secret?

    • @reddkl
      @reddkl 7 месяцев назад

      Powdered Thick It or the liquid which is far more expensive. There are other brands now too, but I don't remember the name. Search for "liquid or food thickener" and you'll get the info.

    How do you overcome unwanted "lumps" in puree, do you present on a plate through a piping bag tool or spoon?

    • @CHRISTOPHER.2014
      @CHRISTOPHER.2014 Год назад +2

      Hi there, thank you for your question. I will present food on a plate or bowl with a serving spoon but a piping bag with different tips can increase the visual appeal of purees! As for lumps, I will make sure my food is very soft to begin with. If it's a fruit or a vegetable, I will cook until it is very "mashable" between to fingers with very little pressure. I also find that the liquids I use can also be helpful in making the puree as smooth as possible. For example, if blending meat, I will blend with not only a liquid but I will often add a starch like a potato/sweet potato to help the mixture be a bit more cohesive. Hope that helps!

      Just something I've found useful is baby food. They are already pureed so that's out of the way. Any baby fruit added to cream of wheat, oatmeal, or ice cream seems to be very much to my mind liking. Plus it adds nutrients, calories, and a good flavor.

    Hard not being able to swallow "real" food. The pureed sounds nice but after awhile it gets harder and harder to "eat"!
