I Forgot to mention: I had the trailer brake gain turned up to 10 (max) and I almost rear ended a dude (he wanted it) those brakes were sketchy. If you applied the trailer brakes manually (squeeze the tabs) they would hardly put a drag on the truck.
@@HerbOMatic yes electric brakes are sketchy for me at best after towing for thousands and thousands and thousands of miles I usually tow at no faster than 55 50. very strange word editor YT has.... " is actually better the reason is because of the weight behind your truck so I suggest 50/55" is not something I would write... I have found that tire age is usually the problem when towing, I don't let them get over 7 years old...
I test my trailer brakes every load I hook up. Best to just drive and squeeze. Too tight and you will know. Too loose and you just keep going. It takes time to adjust and know how much is too much. Yet once you get the hang of it, its easy.
How electric brakes are even legal is completely beyond me. It's an awful system that has was too many things that can go wrong. Especially with the ridiculously heavy loads you Americans can pull with zero drivers ed, it's just scary to know that both the driver and the trailer are probably not functioning properly. To be clear: I'm talking about trailers and drivers in a general sense, all over the US, not you or your trailer specifically.
Rental trailers are always abused usually people use the trailer brakes more then they need to to save on their own brakes so they are probably out of adjustment and if your running the exhaust brake I’d run it on full instead of auto that way you know it’s just gonna work
As a truck driver for 30 years overall I think you did fine with the straps, chains and binders. Not perfect but okay. When you went to drive the tractor onto the trailer I cringed. Yeah, rear of trailer needed jacks ( or blocks ), but you managed okay. Bonus points for changing the tire yourself. Overall good job. I just started following your channel a few weeks ago and this is all very fascinating. And your sense of humor has me laughing out loud ! 🤣

Very unfortunate with the trip. Glad you made it safe, back home. I was screaming at my screen when you first discovered the bunk tire. Unload that tractor and use it to lift the trailer and put the spare on. That tractor was definitely needed. Property that size needs equipment, just no way around that.
You are going to love the land plane for the runway and driveway. Really nice set-up.yhe pallet forks are extremely helpful too. I have mine on more often than the bucket.
I think the $500 forks are probably the best thing dollar for dollar in usefulness. I hope to get the grader machine done too but for now that land plane should be good for shaving the washboards and widening that runway.
It was on there when I bought it, even the third function kit is expensive. 5075E was on my short list but I wanted something a little smaller to get into my buildings with the fork lift. The 5 series is considerably stronger though. Sigh, compromises.

Hey y’all I would suggest you get a commode chair, these are used elderly senior’s when they are bedridden. Put a 5 gallon bucket under the chair to catch the waste. These are common at garage sales and thrifts stores. Often they are used for a very short time.great way to poop in a fallout shelter.
I live in Arizona as well. I usually use a saws-all,, with a big blade for cutting those and use a pair of barbecue tongs to lift it up and get it out of your way I find that works the best.
If that tractor is the heaviest thing you’re hauling you don’t need the high output but it is nice being a ford diesel technician you should love that truck I don’t know how mechanically inclined you are but getting that grader going will be so nice especially with the runway and your driveway. I bought a small 6x10, single-axle cargo trailer, and the first time we used it, it wasn't hitched to the truck. We lowered the back door and went up the ramp... flipped the trailer up in the air. It was scary and funny as hell at the same time. Good luck with the new place.
I have done the same journey for 30 years every summer although I continue on to Oregon. The worst part of the whole drive is the Kingman to Wickenburg section. I switched from a Chevy van with a 16 ft enclosed trailer to a 2001 F250 7.3 diesel and 18 ft enclosed trailer in 2014. That changed everything. So much better. Get a spare. Nothing sucks more that a trailer flat and no spare.
Another awesome video!! Something maybe to try for another time, If you run your chains down thru the stake pockets and bring them up to hook on the pocket or the rub rails, pocket prefered, when you hit a big dip on a road the hook ends are way less likley to come loose. We have awful frost heaves here in the winter and it gets entertaining hauling hauling equipment or iron.
Herb, You did a great job getting your equipment to the ranch, a good rule of thumb for trailering is to have about 10 to 12 percent of the total trailer weight on the hitch. I would ask the rental place for a bit of a discount for wasting your time. John
I got $50 off lol. It's hard to measure the tongue weight, I need to call weigh safe. But then how do I know the weight of the load to get the percentage and then find the tongue weight?
Good luck with your septic system. When I bought my house in 2015 I was told that the Septic had been emptied and brought up to code per WA law, only to find out after buying the house it had not. So the county then went after me to fix the system instead of the seller, and for that fix I had to get a whole new system and was charged $32,000 in 2017.

When using chain binders, if possible, try hooking to a place on the front left of the tractor then connect the other end to the right side of the trailer side rails. Then repeat for the front right to the left side of the trailer of the side rails. Try to do the same for the rear of the tractor or piece of equipment. What you're trying to do is to secure the load like they do in an aircraft equipment drop, in an 'X' configuration. Looked like you had plenty of chain with hooks going to the ratchet chain binders. Lots of things I've learned on construction jobs when I was a certified pipe welder. I've always liked to help others to learn. Another channel you may be interested in, on RUclips is: The Bear Essentials, then look for a specialty rope knot called: The Alpine Butterfly Knot. This rope knot can be used in all situations, is easy to tie and untie.
That was quite an epic journey. But we still have no idea where the poop go. Glad to see you have some tools to tame the ranch. I'll have to get some old pallets to stack up to see what spawns at my place.

your episode on the highway brought back alot of memories. my Signif. other and I had classic cars, and went through some breakdowns while traveling in them, overheats, vapor locks, flat tires, ETC. ended us up by the side of the road trying to get moving again. or calling AAA. but all in all, when they were not acting up, we really enjoyed them, and our experience bag slowly but surely started to fill. sometimes it seemed like our luck bag had a hole in the bottom...
That luck bag can run out a little early! I took a 57 Ford to California once and it cracked a head. We drove it home but there was a stop every 25 miles to add water. They say they don't make them like they used to, in some ways they are better now! The old cars have a soul though, you can feel it when you drive them.
@@HerbOMatic yup had a similar thing happen with our 1973 Buick Electra, on a trip to San Francisco. one of the fan blades snapped off on the highway, taking the water pump out with it. what a fiasco! it overheated every block, the engine temp would quickly climb up, and the stop engine light would start flashing. to make a long story short, we found out in the end, that part of the water pump impeller was lodged in the water jacket, restricting the water flow...
I always park the load right over the axles like you did ,you have to totally change ur driving habits when trailering ,look much farther ahead than normal..cheers
When hooking your chain to the trailer, instead of bringing hook up to the chain, just drop the hook down unto that thick side plate. Love your channel.
@@stevenancykulp5884 agree use the hooks on both side of chain. Binder in the middle to take up slack. The excess chain either pile somewhere it doesn't fall off or use a bungee to secure.
300 hrs on the tractor!? That F350 is awesome, the way it accelerated looks like it barely noticed you were pulling a tractor. I think the heat out there would be the end of me, bewildered that you're able to get anything done when it's like that.
I love the new truck! I looked for used by they want so much for a clapped out truck it didn't make sense. The heat, I hate, but I have to get it done!
I'm guessing John Deeres have a linchpin but best practise is to put the backhoe to the floor or have it tied off when transporting.. I can never forget the accident in the UK when a backhoe swung into oncoming traffic and decapitated 5 people..

check your battery voltage, they may have finally given up.. try removing all of the jumpers between batteries, cleaning the terminals with baking soda, dip the cables in a baking soda/water solution and wire brush everthing to remove all the corrosion, put it all back together and see if it comes back to life. you might have to replace some of the lugs on those cables, if their too far gone.. good news is a hammer style crimp tool is cheap, and the lugs aren’t too bad, and you can DIY 👍
@@HerbOMatic Or there may be a circuit breaker "hidden" inside the Inverter. Our solar system went down *after* the power was restored after the blackout and for some idiotic reason they hid a circuit breaker inside a panel in the inverter. Had many screws and a large isolation switch that had to be removed just to flick the circuit breaker back into the *On* position. Fortunately is had an error code that pointed to the fix.
Make sure you have the water system up and running, if the septic system is dry, it can't be pumped. if you can put some water in it a couple of days ahead of time it would be good. Once you get the cactus out, look for a drop pipe to the tank so you don't have to dig all the way down to the tank. typically an older system like that will have just one 60 to 75 foot pipe for the drain field.
i just redid the headliner in my truck then moved to phoenix. first week here a dr pepper can exploded while sitting in my truck. yeah, they damn sure will pop!
Based on my vast experience watching videos of other people securing equipment to trailers I can quite confidently say that if you can get that one extra click out of the binder or ratchet strap and, now this is the most important part, if you say “that’s going nowhere!”, then you have loaded your trailer properly. 🤣
Your going to need to raise,or lower and dig deeper the septic tank, and get rid of all bushes, the second one is probably less expensive, you know then raise the house, lol thanks BigAl California
Soda cans will blow in a car! My aunt had a can of coke explode in a car while she was driving once; she thought someone shot at her at first. This goes back to the pull tab days when you would rip the tab off the can. (people would drop them in the can and end up chokings on them.) I think you did fine loading the trailer, you centered the weight over the axels, which I believe is the best. Not sure about your strapping and chaining, but looks like it did the job.

There was no _Jack in the box_ well that is just rude criminal even. 😲 The way your _land will provide_ I would suggest walking up and down the sides of the runway and you may just be provided with an airplane that only has a couple of hours on it and a brand new Maintenance Release (or whatever the US equivalent is). I don't know why you called the cat Buster but the name has a cool aviation connection. During WWII, Battle of Britain time the pilots would get a call along the lines of: _Blue flight scramble, Bandits 100+, Angels 15 over Dover, _*_Buster_* and the *Buster* was to climb at Max Continuous power. So an excellent aviation name for your cat. 👍👍

I wished machines grew on my land. Unfortunately, I haven't found the right seeds yet. Do they grow in wet cold climate like the Netherlands? Otherwise it has no point buying the machine seeds.
If you are not used to towing heavy loads, then it's best to slow down and be safe. Looks like you had the trailer loaded pretty well. It has been my experience that rental trailers are almost always sketch at best.
Bumper body line is normal. My F350 dually is the exact same way. Also, they make their frames from a semi flexible steel- you are just fine. Try putting a gooseneck hitch on...tows heavy loads much better.
I think the F250 F350 and F450 all share the same frame now too, so that helps me. I was flying over those bumps full suspension travel and then some. Tractor would have been gone has I used straps almost definitely! I appreciate you looking at yours. I figure they do that so that the bumper is level when the tail is sitting high without a load? Good luck with your septic system. When I bought my house in 2015 I was told that the Septic had been emptied and brought up to code per WA law, only to find out after buying the house it had not. So the county then went after me to fix the system instead of the seller, and for that fix I had to get a whole new system and was charged $32,000 in 2017.

When using chain binders, if possible, try hooking to a place on the front left of the tractor then connect the other end to the right side of the trailer side rails. Then repeat for the front right to the left side of the trailer of the side rails. Try to do the same for the rear of the tractor or piece of equipment. What you're trying to do is to secure the load like they do in an aircraft equipment drop, in an 'X' configuration. Looked like you had plenty of chain with hooks going to the ratchet chain binders. Lots of things I've learned on construction jobs when I was a certified pipe welder. I've always liked to help others to learn.

in them, overheats, vapor locks, flat tires, ETC. ended us up by the side of the road trying to get moving again. or calling AAA. but all in all, when they were not acting up, we really enjoyed them,
and our experience bag slowly but surely started to fill. sometimes it seemed like our luck bag had a hole in the bottom...
That luck bag can run out a little early! I took a 57 Ford to California once and it cracked a head. We drove it home but there was a stop every 25 miles to add water. They say they don't make them like they used to, in some ways they are better now! The old cars have a soul though, you can feel it when you drive them.
@@HerbOMatic yup had a similar thing happen with our 1973 Buick Electra, on a trip to San Francisco. one of the fan blades snapped off on the highway, taking the water pump out with it. what a fiasco! it overheated every block, the engine temp would quickly climb up, and the stop engine light would start flashing. to make a long story short, we found out in the end, that part of the water pump impeller was lodged in the water jacket, restricting the water flow...

When hooking your chain to the trailer, instead of bringing hook up to the chain, just drop the hook down unto that thick side plate. Love your channel.
I'm more of a strap on guy but I'm learning the chain and binders.
@@stevenancykulp5884 agree use the hooks on both side of chain. Binder in the middle to take up slack. The excess chain either pile somewhere it doesn't fall off or use a bungee to secure.

That F350 is awesome, the way it accelerated looks like it barely noticed you were pulling a tractor. I think the heat out there would be the end of me, bewildered that you're able to get anything done when it's like that.
I love the new truck! I looked for used by they want so much for a clapped out truck it didn't make sense. The heat, I hate, but I have to get it done!
I'm guessing John Deeres have a linchpin but best practise is to put the backhoe to the floor or have it tied off when transporting.. I can never forget the accident in the UK when a backhoe swung into oncoming traffic and decapitated 5 people..
It has several Pins that are held in by gravity AND have a ring pin holding them in. It would be really tough for it to move.

I did switch the oil out to synthetic 5-40 Rotella up from the 5-30 conventional lost 1 mpg but the engine should last longer.

check your battery voltage, they may have finally given up.. try removing all of the jumpers between batteries, cleaning the terminals with baking soda, dip the cables in a baking soda/water solution and wire brush everthing to remove all the corrosion, put it all back together and see if it comes back to life. you might have to replace some of the lugs on those cables, if their too far gone.. good news is a hammer style crimp tool is cheap, and the lugs aren’t too bad, and you can DIY 👍
Definitely need to redo the jumpers between the batts, those are the most likely cause of a total failure.
@@HerbOMatic Or there may be a circuit breaker "hidden" inside the Inverter. Our solar system went down *after* the power was restored after the blackout and for some idiotic reason they hid a circuit breaker inside a panel in the inverter. Had many screws and a large isolation switch that had to be removed just to flick the circuit breaker back into the *On* position. Fortunately is had an error code that pointed to the fix.

Make sure you have the water system up and running, if the septic system is dry, it can't be pumped. if you can put some water in it a couple of days ahead of time it would be good. Once you get the cactus out, look for a drop pipe to the tank so you don't have to dig all the way down to the tank. typically an older system like that will have just one 60 to 75 foot pipe for the drain field.
Oh I made sure that tank was wet, rather taco bell did.
i just redid the headliner in my truck then moved to phoenix. first week here a dr pepper can exploded while sitting in my truck. yeah, they damn sure will pop!
Based on my vast experience watching videos of other people securing equipment to trailers I can quite confidently say that if you can get that one extra click out of the binder or ratchet strap and, now this is the most important part, if you say “that’s going nowhere!”, then you have loaded your trailer properly.

Soda cans will blow in a car! My aunt had a can of coke explode in a car while she was driving once; she thought someone shot at her at first. This goes back to the pull tab days when you would rip the tab off the can. (people would drop them in the can and end up chokings on them.)
I think you did fine loading the trailer, you centered the weight over the axels, which I believe is the best. Not sure about your strapping and chaining, but looks like it did the job.
Dont put chains or straps on the outside of the rub rail. A car can clip you and break the chain off.

Otherwise it has no point buying the machine seeds.
If anything falls off my equipment I'll assume they are seeds and sell them to you. I don't know if diesels like the cold in the Netherlands.
If you are not used to towing heavy loads, then it's best to slow down and be safe. Looks like you had the trailer loaded pretty well. It has been my experience that rental trailers are almost always sketch at best.
I hope I don't have to move it too much, would rather have a dump trailer than a flat bed for my needs. Hope I don't need a flat.

Bumper body line is normal. My F350 dually is the exact same way. Also, they make their frames from a semi flexible steel- you are just fine. Try putting a gooseneck hitch on...tows heavy loads much better.
I think the F250 F350 and F450 all share the same frame now too, so that helps me. I was flying over those bumps full suspension travel and then some. Tractor would have been gone has I used straps almost definitely! I appreciate you looking at yours. I figure they do that so that the bumper is level when the tail is sitting high without a load? Try leaving the air intake hose to the a/c inside the house instead of pulling hot air in from the outside. I do that with a small one I have.
