I’m the same. As a recently retired respiratory therapist I’m learning how to live gently without extraordinary stress and reacting to everything as an emergency. 😊
I’m almost 55 and can verify from my personal experience that walking in nature with weight (I use a backpack or vest) and sprinting have both been very powerful for helping my menopausal body heal from obesity and low muscle mass. When I started I could do very little but now I’m pleased with my physical abilities and functioning. Best wishes to you fellow retired medical worker.

Doc, your videos have helped more people than you know. This help is the direct result of you choosing the path to become a surgeon. Had you not gone down that road, you would not be here giving us all this valuable advice. You will always be a doctor, whether you are operating or not. The choice to walk away from being a practicing surgeon im sure wasnt an easy one to make but your happiness and personal fulfillment are far more important. I myself came across your channel randomly. I can vouch for fitness being integral in maintaining overall mental and physical health. My dad is 78 and has been a runner for the last 40 years. He can still run 5k in under 25 min and can bang off 20 pull ups in one go. I followed in my dad's footsteps and continue to run and maintain an active lifestyle. Im 48 and people routinely think im in my late 30's. Keep doing what you're doing doc. You are truly respecting the Hippocratic oath that you pledged to uphold. We all support and thank you.

Thank you for touching on boundaries. They are so important! I have decompensated cirrhosis of the liver from decades of abuse by my now elderly dad and turned to substances to ‘cope.’ I now have dietary limitations and recently quit alcohol, newly sober after returning to Christianity. It’s really helped me find strength in social isolation.
My dad recently offered to buy me a 12 pack of beer after telling him weeks ago that I was hemorrhaging, itching, and not digesting food properly. The man wants to see me dead because he’s rather bully me or see me die than wish me well. I’m in ‘kick the toxins out of my life, same with poisonous people.’ With God on my side, I’m doing well and will face what comes in better shape alone than with a psychopathic bully in my life.

I don’t leave any feeling unattended today even if I may not have the time to process them straightaway. End of the day is reflection time. Grieving too for a lost childhood. Forgiveness comes naturally. In betw the rough knocks continue. Support groups. Therapy. Lots of grace to myself, just make the correction w/o beating myself up. I feel more put together now than I was about 30 yr ago. I’m 67.

    Love the message!
Many sedentary people will not be able to do the rows that Dr. Choi is demonstrating yet. Using a suspension trainer or olympic rings can help you regress the exercise.
For those looking at gyms, there are some chains that are only $10/month out there that are surprisingly clean and well-equipped (assuming you aren't a powerlifter). If you're gonna work out at home, getting a few minimal pieces of equipment is 100% worth it. Don't buy the expensive fancy high tech stuff. Olympic rings and a couple dumbbells and you're off the races!

hi Goobie and everyone :) I like to exercise for the body and the mind at the same time. Yoga is movement meditation. By dropping my focus into the body during yoga, I feel almost "high" after yoga sometimes. The body is warm and loosened, I breathe deeper, I notice and appreciate nature more... the trees, the clouds, the sun, the rain, even the air and breath feels fresher. I feel grounded, connected and alive. It's like a baby, experiencing the world for the first time. I also walk mostly quietly and mindfully in the woods, even when I'm walking with someone - asmr irl. Yesterday on a trail, we stopped to watch and listen to the sound of a young squirrel eat its dinner. Sometimes, I walk in the hood around sunrise or at night when there are less people, less cars, and the world is less hurried. I hope you find moments of peace and joy today ✨❤peach

Hi Goobie! An excellent and low cost addition to a home gym would be a pair of gymnastics rings. Simply doing hangs or holds on them in positions like dips or pushups help build stabilizer muscles but there's so much versatility in the exercises and a lot of "bang for your rep" given the rotational and core aspect that's required. I've noticed a lot more engagement in side and rear delts while doing those exercises. Not to mention the grip strength it builds! A really fun stretch I like to do for my shoulders and upper body on there is "skin the cats".

Thank you Dr. Goobie I love these videos, it’s an awesome relaxation and fact filled reminder of why I started an entire body and food transformation that began last February.
Now fully whole food plant based eating, I cook all my own food/snacks healthy (I label them as a healthy point of #of unique plants within each dish 😊)
I honestly feel that sharing well made food with family and friends, it’s not that individuals are having a hard time to commit to healthy eating, it’s that there isn’t a consistent option available for those who can find the time and energy to put into their food (I’m single and I have a dog, and it takes me at least half the hours I’m awake to maintain).
Hopefully in the future finding consistent options for those who can dedicate that time will become available ❤️

@@GoobieAndDoobie thanks Doobie. I’ve had some mental health struggles for much of my life. I’m a lot better now. It’s funny because I’ve also done Honopono meditation for years now as a way of loving myself more. I’ve also been watching some Mr Rogers recently too.
After all these years, I’m almost 50 now, I’ve finally realized that what I believed when I was younger was a lie. Which was that I was worthless and useless, and that only my success and my image was worth anything. That was a lie.
The truth is that every human life is precious and priceless, including my own. And I should treat my life and my body like they are precious. Which means I should take care of myself and my health and never think about destroying or neglecting my life and my health.
If everyone in the world truly believe that all human life is precious, then I think there would be world peace.
All the problems of the world happen when people treat themselves and treat each other like trash, like crap, when we learn to dehumanize humanity.
How can we learn to re-humanize humanity again?

Hi Doctor, I think you're the perfect RUclipsr to do a reaction or response video to the episode on Joe Rogan with the doctor who touched on subjects you are very familiar with regarding healthcare. The episode is titled: Joe Rogan Experience 2210 - Calley Means & Casey Means, MD. Hope you have a great day!

I agree with many things Dr Means and her brother say about the corruption of our food and health systems. I’m glad they are doing what they are doing. I couldn’t do that now. It hurts me mentally and physically to think about that deception, corruption, and hurtfulness for too long. Maybe one day I will be as strong as they are to fight like they do whether it’s for the same purpose or the environment

I do 1 hr walk on the treadmill and 45 minutes of weights 2-3 times a week in Planet Fitness. I have to add weights to reduce sarcopenia and strengthen my core. Lately I’ve been foraging for chanterelles and matsutakes so that gives me 3-4 miles a day. Forest bathing to increase T helper cells thus improve your immune system and reduce stress and anxiety. LOL, like Goobie, I wish I can live in the forest forever because it makes me the happiest!! I like foraging, learning and knowing all about native plants, mushrooms through apps and books. Just say I’m stronger now than my 20s! Thanks for sharing!!😊💕🐶

@@GoobieAndDoobie I’m obsessed with mushrooms!!! An addict!! I need to join mushrooms anonymous!!🤣😂🤣This year has been blessed with abundance, chanterelles up to my eyeballs!! I tell people I rather go foraging than a trip to Paris. People think I’m nuts but nature has always made me the happiest since I was a little girl. I’m not into anything materialistic of this world!! I feel closest to God when I’m outside. It’s so much fun!! It’s like Easter eggs hunting for adults. Nothing is more beautiful and exciting than seeing a golden chanterelle bursting out from the earth’s crevices. My advice: if you find one, look slowly around the vicinity. You will find more, mushrooms thrive in a community. For matsutakes, look for mounds!! Know the different trees and vegetations where mushrooms grow under. 😊💕💕🍄🍁🍁🍄🍄🍄🌲🌲🍂🍂

Now at 70, plant based diet mostly, pain and can't be fixed, highly recommend a good college with the vitamins needed to build muscle back. My pain has decreased, some exercise that I have to hold on due to falling, getting stronger every day. Great video Goobie ❤

Hi thanks for the video Doc. Yes there’s protein in plants but their bioavailability is much less than meat. Please consider Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) for comparison. Again it’s a matter of convenience as well eg using smoothies against eating individual foods whole. Thanks
