I don't know where YOU LIVE - but, your assumption is INCORRECT ! MR. Wylie started a hydraulic electrical power generating plant many years ago ..... Duke Power grew since then. The Properties have increased as the Lake did ..... the other two lakes are similar in their development and use Up from us on Wylie ..... the Catawba river is LONG USED FOR NEEDS AS WELL AS RECREATION and Wylie alone is 325 miles of shoreline .... Norman Lake is larger still. The lake was mishandled this time WITH HELENE and the substations problems have been additional problems. NO EARLY LOWERING WHICH IS TO DUKE POWER ADVANTAGE ...... was undertaken .... it caused undue damage. jj

My brother bought land next to a stream, but he's got about 25 feet of elevation to where his house sits. Personally, I once rented an apartment on the third floor of a former hotel (more than a century old) that was about 15 feet from the high-tide line on a bay in Massachusetts. We had a 100-year tidal surge, knee deep on the first floor, and the building was condemned, because the electric system was all shorted out. Whole lot of inconvenience. My car, in the parking lot across the street, on higher ground, had a water line about two inches above the door bottoms, and appeared dry inside, but enough water got in to fry the computer modules that were installed on the floor (on the floor!), and the car just died a month later. Still, I have no net regrets about living there. It was a few years of serenity after a brutal series of experiences of women's inhumanity to man.

2.5 years of rain in 24 hours. There is no dam that can handle that. That's unheard of. There are 150 yr old trees washing down the river. A warmer atmosphere holds more moisture (basic 10th grade science) right now the earths atmosphere has 6-8% more moisture capacity than 30 yrs ago. All it needs is a trigger. @@KennethGreenCMP Kind of like that one homeowner in Hawaii that used flame resistant roofing material; and kept the underbrush cut down around his house? That was the only house left standing and looked 'untouched' after the wildfire. But that also takes money, and raising houses takes a ton of cash too. I KNOW that just replacing a tiny 2 ft section of water piping under my house was 'guestimated' to cost almost $1K (with a crawl space that has ample space to get under there). Mainly because there is a lack of tradesmen in certain fields that drive up the costs?
I've actually watched many of those 'house tour' videos; some of them actually in the areas that are getting the terrible flooding now. And I've thought...well that house is sitting next to a stream...etc. How many miles away are the dams that are causing these issues; and how much of a threat was exposed to them when they were buying their homes? Problem is the issue is actually 'manmade' with these dams. Can we agree that the dams were NOT put there as 'flood control' but water retention. But the 'water retention' solution is causing another very impactful issue - severe flooding! And as these structures age, the problem will get worse.

Look at the far upstream end of this. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY expected the volume of water that fell in the mountains. Those who live on the Catawba River should be glad there were other rivers to help channel the floodwaters. Imagine what it would have been like if it were just the Catawba. If you live on a river or lake made from a river, you should know you're going to be flooded at some point and not cry to the watershed management when it happens.

No, they did not know that the rain was coming. Even after Helene made landfall in FL, the spaghetti charts were all pointing to a path directly over Atlanta, and then curling westward into central TN. Those predictions would have put western NC in a much more peripheral location.

    Matthew 7:24-27
Build Your House on the Rock
24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

Please worship the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE, THE LORD GOD and try not to worry too much about the differences between the different religions and denominations, try to think about the similarities and the things they may have in common more than the differences. Daily prayer is a fundamental part that many people do not practice although it is encouraged.
"CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE, LORD GOD, I beg you to never force me to worship any false god or object and I ask you for forgiveness for my sins and immorality. Thank you for everything. Amen."
Please pray this now, pray the words as you read them if you cannot look and remember them 🙏 and please know that daily prayer will give you the help that GOD wants you to have.
    🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
    Thessalonians 5:16-18
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of GOD in Christ Jesus for you."
    🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Daily prayer is the key to success in politics and much of life, if only more would practice it 🙏

Mars and Venus have 95% co2 in their atmosphere, earth 0.04%. Venus is hot enough to fry your bacon while mars forms dry ice on its poles from extreme cold. So explain to me how 0.04% co2 is causing climate change. Or is it the atmospheric pressure that drives weather since mars atmosphere is almost non existent while Venus atmosphere is roughly 93 times more dense than earths. 🤔
