Thanks for your post. I am on the second dose of day 3. Bad taste, yes all the time. Diarrhea, yes but no abdominal cramps. So far so much better. Weird night sweats with weird odor, yes and yes. The first day my symptoms showed up was so scary and miserable. I have had three vaccinations but this new variant got me before I could get the vaccine. I have never had a flu with the extremely quick onset of symptoms so I took my home test. I tested positive in just a few minutes and it was bright red! The next day my husband called the dr for me and got me the paxlovid. I can’t believe how much better I feel. I’ll update if I get the rebound.
Thanks for the show . I am on the last day of this medicine, so far I suffered from coughing, and sore throat all the time from day one . There is no sign of improvement apart from fever down. Did you have sore throat problem? Thanks
I have had, over the course of my illness, fever,, coughing, congestion, fatigue, diarrhea, and a bitter taste in my mouth. Hard to know if some of those are medication side effects. I can say that all of my symptoms have been quite mild and that only the taste and digestive issues manifested after starting the pills.
I got it on a Wednesday afternoon and when I woke Friday morning, after the 3rd dose but before the 4th, my symptoms had mostly resolved and I felt great. Colds always tend to get in my upper respiratory tract and cause lingering phlegm and coughing, so I decided not to risk it because that's what can overwhelm. Side effects were the taste, it's sort of like you ate a bad pistachio, and it's there all the time because you take it 2 times a day. Diarrhea wasn't bad, it's not like it made me need to go to the toilet all the time, I still only went 1 time a day, but it was watery. The 3rd night I bundled up in bed and had a lot of sweat, which had a distinctly unusual odor, not like underarm odor, I imagine it's sweating out the same stuff that causes the bad taste. If you have kidney issues they have a lower dose to take, if you are on certain meds, you need to stop them while taking Paxlovid and then for 10 days after, but overall it was a breeze. Paxlovid is a combination of an antiretroviral released in 1996 to combat aids and an antiviral developed in 2018 to combat a coronavirus that was 100% fatal in cats. One of the drugs prevents the virus from replicating and the other med prevents your liver from metabolizing the antiviral, so it stays in your system longer. It's effective because it doesn't really matter what strain you have, it's going to prevent replication, while the monoclonal antibodies were only effective against a specific strain, so each time the virus mutates the monoclonals are no longer effective. There's no denying that it was incredibly effective. Odds are that I would have been able to do just fine without it, but we will never know. Sad that a 1996 drug with a 2018 drug wasn't made available in 2020 when it was most needed. To be fair, they needed to modify the 2018 med to be taken orally, but they could have been administered as 1 oral, 1 injection.
