Comes standard with the carbon roof. You dont have to opt for it. The only choice you have with the roof is to have a sunroof at extra cost which replaces the carbon roof
Love it, I have one myself in Alpine White with an upgraded Karman Sound System, M Suspension, and Lighting Package. The other stuff is nice to have but not really need it. Mine cost me $70,000.00. The funny exhaust sound at cold start-ups it last a minute or less so it's to a big deal, specially if you are up grating to a more sophisticated, lighter, and more profound sound like I will soon. I use it on a daily basis (primary car) and keep it mostly out of any M Modes. The best of it, I love when people turn their necks over when I drive by... ...just an awesome car to drive either hard or just cruising!!!
+Dennis Morales That's great! I just bought one in alpine white with all the carbon fiber front lip, side skirts, and mirror! It looks absolutely stunning. Can't wait to pick her up next weekend! How much attention do you get with driving this car around? DO people stop to take pics and stuff?
Happy for you in getting one. About what you asked, yes you will have people driving behind you to either take video clips or pics while you're driving around. Every once in a while you'll see another BMW (any model) trying to get near you, just to see how they do in the event you'll like to step on the gas pedal. Anyway, you'll love it. I had a 2010 M3 V8 Sedan before the M4, and I have to say the M4 is faster, quicker, and more versatile handling the road, probably due to less weight and a little bit of more HP (215HP vs 225).
Good news: The artificial piped in sound can be turned off.. Also, at recent car meets I have noticed the stock 16 sounds better than the 15. Noticeably in fact. It seems BMW realized their muff on the awful sounding 15 and quietly slipped in better acoustic tuning.
Stumbled on this awesome vid. Hated your earlier reviews and commented pretty harshly on the 2014 S6 review but this is way better. So much more natural. Keep it up my man!
Thank you for finally telling the truth about the poor steering charatteristics of this car, deficiency ignored by the largest majority of the reviewers. This is definitely the worst aspect of this car that otherwise is very interesting and succeed under many other aspects with the engine being it's highest point. Back to the electric steering my take is that it's totally inadequate for a car of this level of performance, not only it's kind of slow and disconnected from the road but the ratio is not nearly as direct as it should be, requiring big rotations of the steering even in small turns. In short this steering belongs to an SUV not to a sport car and it's disappointing that BMW didn't do a better job on this. I agree: "Comfort" is the only usable steering setting. Sport and Sport Plus make just things worse.
Hey bro your "brand" Porsche (in your pic) uses it now too. In fact, I liked the steering in this car better than the E92. Much tighter and more specific. The mechanical engineers at Porsche and BMW know a lot more than you do.
promodelred Aw BMW fan butt hurt. Get over it BMW arent the best you guy hate hearing the truth. it isnt the 1990's no more where BMW was the best at driving
Nice comprehensive review! That exhaust note is just pitiful. It's a shame that BMW didn't tune the the car to sound like a sports car, and had to resort to playing engine sounds through the stereo. It definitely sounds like a lawn mower. FI engines can sound good, take the BMW 335is and F-type V6S for example. The M4 has the performance but lacks the character.
dcharizard91 drive one before saying shit.. it sounds amazing esp when it warms up and in sport mode. it gets even better after the first 2000km run in service . and I do not hear any sound thru the speakers, I drive one every day its simply amazing. lacks character ?? lol
But I have driven one...I'm not saying it's a bad car, just a little clinical. The performance was amazing, but not everything is about the having the fastest to 60 or lap time or the most lateral grip, because how much of it are you really using on public roads. Exhaust still sounds meh; I liked the V8 better, but the performance is much better on this one. I'd consider the competition (RCF, C63 AMG, RS5) before getting the M4. If you own the car and "don't hear sounds through the speakers", then you must have hearing problems....it's constantly playing an engine soundtrack through the speakers as you drive.
dcharizard91 i have had the previuous 6.3 c63 and driven the RS5 the performance does not come close to the m4, m4 is very quick. but we ll have to wait for the new c63 coupe. no i don't have hearing problems , there is some sound fed to speakers when u start the car, but when ur driving its mostly from the engine and exhaust, and it sounds good in my opinion better than the previous v8 m3. don't forget they are doing it in new c63 and 911 as well, feeding sound to speakers. unfortunately.
dcharizard91 I agree with you man, the M4 seems to shine in every single department EXCEPT for sound, which is a letdown for any enthusiast. But I think there's hope, I recently heard an aftermarket setup using DPs with the M-Performance exhaust and it sounded MEAN. I mean it's never going to sound like a V8 but there is room for significant improvement over stock.
Nice video! Glad you have started to incorporate more engine and exhaust sounds! Just shame BMW dropped the ball in this department for the M3 / M4; hopefully they'll learn from the F-Type how to calibrate an exhaust by the time they release the M2!
Philip Mazloumian true F type sounds good, its cheap build quality and poor performance does not compete wit the M4. and the M4 sounds different in its own way , liking it or not is subjective.
Philip Mazloumian Thank you and agreed. However, everyone (or so it would seem), including Cadillac are piping audio through the speakers. To put it mildly: it overshadows the car's true performance. And it's about the first thing everyone says in response to the car.
I love the M4, but damn it's overpriced! In my country, the M4 is around 45k USD more expensive than the Lexus RCF. After trying out both cars for a couple of days each, I was surprised that I prefer driving the RCF more. This is just for normal highway, city and countryside driving though, we don't have racetracks here for me to try out the limits of the M4 where it'll undoubtedly shine.
Saber Tooth Chimp Most girls will just think that it's another BMW. There are shit tons of 3 series running around in my area and most people won't know that the M4 cost more than 4 times as much. Plus I don't buy cars to impress other people.
gotta laugh when people below are talking about adding the options and how much this is- First against Merc- add several options to the C6 and youre up to 80 g as well- HOWEVER- Merc DOES NOT INCLUDE maintance for any period of time- youll be lucky enough to get a free oil change at the dealership- BUT if you want the Merc service option oh yea thats another 3-5 g- BMW includes this- overall comparision, you will get more money back after 60K miles on the BMW than you will on the Merc C6- PERIOD
That's about to change for the worse, BMW will no longer be adding service plans to the extent that they do now and they will be watering them down substantially
What your actually paying for is arrogance! I once stayed at hotel that was really expensive ( 4 Star ) The bedding was nothing special, no jacuzzi just a shitty pool, charged $20 a day for wifi in the room ( I used the lobby Starbucks Wifi my entire stay ) and the list goes on! When opting for a reputation, you actually get a lot less but pay through the nose!
drdj69 yo, yo, yo. No use to throw around those kind of words. I don't wanna get in the middle of an argument, which I think is fine, but you're not helping yourself by throwing around insults. Only lessens your position.
Dnaovrimdan No, he didn't go that far. I'd ban him from the channel for that. But throwing around insults gets no one any where. i realize sometimes it can be in good fun, but the conversation didn't seem to be going in that direction.
Isaiah Trouwloon If we could get the manual. From my understanding BMW doesn't have many cars in its fleet. And with the majority purchasing automatics, they're probably reluctant to make the investment. But I hear you loud and clear :).
+Isaiah Trouwloon I've had my M4 since July of this year and I purchased it with a six speed manual. I've also driven one with the DCT and I would say that it is just, let's say mechanical. I had an '03 M3 SMG prior to my M4 and it was a lot of fun to drive, but it really felt like driving an automatic with more user intervention. Even though the DCT is quicker off the line and 0-60 times, thanks to launch control and quicker shifting, the 'push-button' shifting is pretty boring, although it does shift lightning fast. One of the big selling points (at least to me) on the six speed was the auto-blipping, you just downshift and it brings it up to the proper RPM. This does take a little away from the experience of toe/heel downshifts, but you can turn this off. Overall, I love the six speed and after driving both of the models I know I made the correct choice with the six speed.
Joe Royle Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I don't have the money for a car let alone an M4, but I do like to imagine what it would be like. All the reviews that I see are the DCT and I get that it's faster and more economical, but I like to "drive" a car. Feel when the clutch is picking up, feel the reward for getting a shift right and be punished when I don't. With all these new sport cars and a customer base who doesn't feel the same way as I do the manuals are disappearing before I get the chance to be able to buy one. Let's just hope I win the jackpot now so I can before it's too late.
+Isaiah Trouwloon My pleasure. When I bought my M4 I bought it to really drive the car and get the best experience possible with it, that is why I chose the manual. It definitely punishes you on a bad upshift or if you have the blipping off, it will definitely get you on downshifts. I hope that they keep making manuals (even as an upgrade) in the future, it would be a sad day if they took all the fun out of it! Here's to you winning the jackpot soon so you can go buy a new toy! Cheers.
Its a great car but at about 86K for a well optioned model which can put you into a 2013 911 S Porsche with less than 8000 miles on it or a 2013 standard 991 with less than 2000 miles! BOTH ARE VERY NICELY OPTIONED! AGAIN GREAT CAR BUT COST FOR CAR AND ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE COMPARED TO A SLIGHTLY USED 911!
Steve Jovan at least you mentioned the word "USED" and what do you think people do with a slightly "used" 911? take it for a drive to see Midge and have tea and scoones? yes, go buy that Used 911 and while youre at sniff the seats.
how is a used car better than a new one? ITS USED- im sorry bro- but a 2-3 yr old used porsche carrera s coupe with 29281 miles for $80,900 is a fucking rip- faster better used vehicle- seriously man
vaporeizied8 Firstly a Porsche is a better made car! See the reviews of Porsche vs BMW! Second the base 911 beats out the M4 let alone the S! For under 80K you can have a 911S with under 3000 miles! On sale now: www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?zip=60614&endYear=2016&vehicleStyleCodes=COUPE&modelCode1=911&showcaseOwnerId=9603808&startYear=2012&makeCode1=POR&searchRadius=0&maxPrice=80000&bodyStyleCodes=COUPE&showcaseListingId=0&trim1=911%7CCarrera+S&mmt=%5BPOR%5B911%5B911%257CCarrera%2BS%5D%5D%5B%5D%5D&minPrice=50000&listingId=407449997&Log=0 Anyone with an ounce of skill could buy this car for less than 77K! Or buy this one for less than 75k! www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?zip=60614&endYear=2016&vehicleStyleCodes=COUPE&modelCode1=911&showcaseOwnerId=9603808&startYear=2012&makeCode1=POR&firstRecord=26&searchRadius=0&maxPrice=80000&bodyStyleCodes=COUPE&showcaseListingId=0&trim1=911%7CCarrera+S&mmt=%5BPOR%5B911%5B911%257CCarrera%2BS%5D%5D%5B%5D%5D&minPrice=50000&listingId=400365798&Log=0 This one could be had for under 73K! So a 911S with under 4000 miles for the low 70s!! Lets see do you buy a car that is slower with lesser build quality or a faster car with 2 months worth of miles that comes CPO and a sticker of over $112K? Do your home work next time!
Steve Jovan The M4 is comparable to the 911... but the M4 is not a pure race car unlike the 911. It's a well balanced Daily Driver with Race capabilities. The M4 can go head to head with the 911 even though it's not in the same class. So what class do you put the M4 with? Well Mercedes C class amg and Audi RS5. The reason you can't compare the M4 to the 911 is the daily driving capabilites and the rear seats in which 911 loses. I would never put my kids in the 911 rear and I certainly would not be comfortable driving the 911 everyday.
Toyota4Life Agreed, the people I work with love this car for some reason. I think its way overpriced, I think when getting into that price range I'd go with a Corvette. Heck for that price range you could opt for the Z06 with the performance pack.
About $78k if you ditch the CC brakes. Audi's RS5 is up there in price as well. As is Mercedes'. What would you rather than the M4? ATS-V? We just drove that with a review probably coming next week.
Pedro Pedrosoy I have more faith in a 80 Lexus/Toyota then in a 80 grand BMW. Sorry. My point is for 86k this is a poor performance bargain. Hellcat.. GTR... new Vette z06... hell even the new GT350 mustang. 86k for just over 400hp? You got to a BMW fan to actually buy this thing. Look at the bigger picture not just the badge.
It's 420 at the crank, according to BMW. At least that's how they spec it out. Nevertheless, they're known for understating their HP. Not sure why they do it. But I'm not surprised it's more on the dyno, but I'm shocked to hear 480 at the crank!!!
86k... and you get a car that sounds like a lawnmower and a Honda, BMW... For 80k I can get a Z06, throw in a few options, maybe 88k, get better brakes, an overall better car, a better looking car, a faster car, a car that brakes better, a car that sounds better, a car that actually looks like a sports car, a car that has a V8 and not a 6, a car that gets better mpg, and a car thats an overall better experience. I think I made my point. Sure I lose backseats but eh, the only people you really need to drive around is you and your girl and for the kids, just pray your girl has a 5 seater.
***** Eh, that's not really a fair comparison. A base Z06 is obviously an insane performance car, but you're not getting the comfort, style, and tech you're getting in the M4. 'Course you *can* get the comfort, style, and tech with the 3LT trim, but then you're gonna be closing in around $100k. A better comparison is with a loaded (3LT) Stringray, which is comparable in price to the loaded M4 and offers a similar level of comfort, style, and tech. In that case the overall performance is very close. As for the looks, yeah... the 'Vette is awesome. So beautiful. But I can also appreciate a less ostentatious sports car.
Mike Doolittle Style I prefer the C7 in everyway (Except interior in some aspects). Comfort, both are pretty much on par, the basic seats in the vette are the same seats from a Porsche. Going up trim levels in the vette just adds simple stuff like Nav, onstar, xm, HUD, Magnetic Ride, and different packages that are more focused on racing rather than tech and comfort (The magride is only 1k option). Overall, if you don't need back seats the Corvette is just an overall better car. I see more people here in Cali respecting the new corvette over these new BMW's.
***** Well actually the trim levels add quite a bit of leather, suede, and carbon fiber options, painted calipers, and quite a few wheel options you can't get on the base model. Which is all superfluous, really, but if you're doing an apples-to-apples comparison the M4 is easily loaded with all that stuff for less than a base Z06. As for which is a better car, I mean that's just apples and oranges. The Vette is faster and more powerful (only marginally so with the Stingray), but the M4 is better balanced, arguably more precise, and hella more practical. The Vette is perfect for empty nesters cashing in on their investments. M4 is great for anyone who wants a killer track car that's still a great grand tourer and daily driver. Me though, I'd probably just risk pissing off my wife and buy the Vette. It's just too hot.
I have one of these cars and every one says it sounds mental as passengers... Videos do not justice at all.... Get a ride in one 😀
Comes standard with the carbon roof. You dont have to opt for it. The only choice you have with the roof is to have a sunroof at extra cost which replaces the carbon roof

This car should come standard with M suspension, I mean come on its a bloody M car
+ShortFatandStumpy FAT it does come with M suspension, it's the M adaptive suspension that you have to pay extra for in the States.
+Dennis Morales That's great! I just bought one in alpine white with all the carbon fiber front lip, side skirts, and mirror! It looks absolutely stunning. Can't wait to pick her up next weekend! How much attention do you get with driving this car around? DO people stop to take pics and stuff?

8 years later this car is still legendary and has retained half its value
Awesome. I love M4. God Job bro
I like the review, particularly how you cut in the 'at rest' shots of this beautiful car. Thanks.
Awesome. Very honest, no BS review. Are you a voiceover artist by chance? Very articulate lol
Not yet. But maybe one day I can get to VO work. And thank you!!
Good news: The artificial piped in sound can be turned off..

Just found this channel. Now I'm binge watching your great car reviews and subscribed! BTW: you guys need to review a Porsche ;-)
Jeffrey Formeister Trust us...we are trying! Thanks for the comment and feedback!
even though this car has some weak points and its kinda expensive, its still a better car then every car from the usa ;D
I found this channel to be so great for cars reviews subscribed
Mission accomplished :)

Very cool channel!

drdj69 The F-Type can be a bit much at times. The only thing I thought "cheap" was the interior. They failed by comparison to the outside of the car.
***** yes its too loud and constant it gave me a headache when I test drove it.
You heard the M4 in person on the outside Phillip? Sounds incredible
engine noise piped into cabin via speakers? What in the hell?
I love the M4, but damn it's overpriced! In my country, the M4 is around 45k USD more expensive than the Lexus RCF. Pedro Pedrosoy Have you tried both for at least several days or are you just being a keyboard fanboy?
Great video
Thank you. Anything you'd like to see that we didn't include?
what camera did you shoot this with - it looks handheld - but has super high quality.
+Yas Men I just shoot with a Nikon d5200 and usually a Tamron Lens 18-50 f/2.8 -- Not even a full frame camera.

+Art Klimek
in sport plus mode, the full hp is available...
think about the pronounciation of the sentence again and you will understand
Does this guy know the difference between CFRP and Plastic...
Huh?
+Gadget Review I said huh!!!
those options are such bs so expensive and so many things that should be standard
Agree, the M cars should come fully specked as there a premium car and top of the tree

There is alot as standard.. cf roof, bucket seats. Those are expensive options at amg
It sounds like a Honda according to Brian Makse. 90G's for weak pipes that are altered through the speakers Fuck naw!
Keep in mind if you don't opt for the CC brakes you save about $8k. But point taken.
Dnaovrimdan whatever douche.

So the faster better car is not the one to buy?
LOL!
Used 911S with under 5000 miles can be had for less than the new M4!
how is a used car better than a new one? ITS USED- im sorry bro- but a 2-3 yr old used porsche carrera s coupe with 29281 miles for $80,900 is a fucking rip- faster better used vehicle- seriously man
vaporeizied8
Firstly a Porsche is a better made car!
See the reviews of Porsche vs BMW!
Second the base 911 beats out the M4 let alone the S!
For under 80K you can have a 911S with under 3000 miles!

86k ? Damn near 100k for this? People have more brains then money.
Toyota4Life 480 at the crank.... its not 420hp as he said, they dyno at 445
It's 420 at the crank, according to BMW. At least that's how they spec it out. Nevertheless, they're known for understating their HP. Not sure why they do it. But I'm not surprised it's more on the dyno, but I'm shocked to hear 480 at the crank!!!
Haters going to hate
163MPH?? I used to rushed to 166MPH and it is all stock.
Articulate script. At first the camera work was interesting, but it didn't take long for it to become somewhat disorientating.
Ive a late 2019 one good car .
Dam..What's Wrong with my garage... :)
Dream car because its 260.000 $ here in turkey ..
Hold on a minute, how can the Americans talk about handling 🤔
I'd take a f type R thank you. ..
Not as dynamic; though
No dip stick.
86k... and you get a car that sounds like a lawnmower and a Honda, BMW...
