2015 BMW M4 Coupe Review: Two Doors for the Price of Four Doors

- ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2015 BMW M4 is a two-door version of the legendary BMW M3. It is certainly fast, fun and very sexy, but is it a good car to buy when you can get cars like the new Chevy Corvette for the same ( or even less) money. Check out this TFLcar review as Nathan finds out for himself.

The music playing whenever you cut into the M4 makes this video so great. Good review!
I considered this car but after careful consideration I purchased a Corvette Stingray convertible. The Vette just has a mesmerizing look and awesome sound. It just feels super special. I love them both.
I'm a huge BMW fan, but I think the C7 makes everything else under $100k irrelevant unless you need back seats. And that's before you take into account the Z06, which is still less expensive than the M4 here. Good call on the C7, especially in white.
Loping Camshaft
Actually it's GTR that makes everything else irrelevant under 100K unless you go for drive style.
henoch44 You're right, but the Corvette is already faster than everything below $100k. And the GT-R is faster still, but the base price is now about $100k, not ~$65k as it started out.
Loping Camshaft
You are correct, they shot themselves in foot by going over $100K from PR point of view.
I tell you the truth if I was spending this kind of money I would want to test drive both. I wouldn't be surprised if vette was my choice but you cannot ignore GTR just because it's couple grand over $100K.
henoch44 For sure it depends on how strict your budget is. There is quite a leap between a $65k Corvette or M4 and the GT-R. And I'm sure most people would be happy with any of them. That's why I can't wait for reviews of the C7 Z06 to come out. Should be at least as quick around a track as a GT-R, but $20k less. And it has a manual trans.
Dear Nathan,
you are the absolutly FIRST tester, who tested these car with an "human" and critical eye!
Thanks alot!!!
(I couldn't explain the meaning of the "human" eye - my english is too bad for this, but I hope you unterstand?!) ;)
Greeting from Bavaria, Germany
$86,000?! Damn add the BMW M cars to list of dreamers. That's Tesla money...
People like to complain on the comments and rip on these guys for providing their opinions on certain vehicles on how they'd have done things differently or how they should be. Yet it's free and as far as production value and content goes, it's in the top 3 auto journalist channels on RUclips easily(car reviews on camera aren't as easy as they look nor are they nearly as simple as written reviews or magazines like motortrend or automobile would have a more seamless transition to the internet). Especially when you consider that they're exclusively on the internet and have yet to charge anyone for any content. Thanks Nathan and Roman, as I may have disagreed with some of your videos in the past, I know I'm not the only one who sincerely appreciates what you are doing here. Ignore the haters and keep the videos coming!
Dan
I love this review, how Nathan speaks to us, expresses our feelings... I prefer this review than those of the second journalist (the main reviewer in fact, the tall guy you know, sorry to forget his name). Thank you Nathan, I wished you had the manual version of the M4. For me, if you want a sports car, buy a M3 e36 and for the same money a 4 series Gran Coupe with a smaller engine, to cruise, or a C class break, more practical. But the 63 AMG and the M4 have never been so pointless, for us who pay insurance, oil, tires, and who don't race everyday, hope to keep their driving license or go on tracks every week-end. And if you want sensations, buy a motorcycle. M3 e36 + 4 Gran Coupe + Honda CB650F = price of the M4. But finally, thank you Nathan this is a great review.
the music at 3:45 perfectly portrays musically how i'd feel internally for spending 80k on this car
I liked this review in particular, Nathan. It seemed as though you were having an emotional connection with the M4 in this video(minus the manual, of course). I watch all of your videos, love you guys, BTW, but I noticed a glimmer in your eye today. That's awesome. I get like that every time I get in my '13 5.0 with a 6spd manual :) keep up the good work Nathan and Roman!
There is a extra piece of plastic with space at the back of each seat (right where the seat push button is), thats meant to keep the seat belt in for ease of accessibility
I SIMPLY CANNOT WAIT FOR THE M2
One door for the price of 5 doors?
You my friend forgot to talk about the transmission on the M4 as you've promised on the start of your video!
At about 2:30min into the video review, it was said that the M4 coupe is wider than the M3 sedan (stated as one of main reasons to go for M4 as opposed to M3). This is not correct. Per BMW brochure on these cars, both are about the same width. As matter in fact, the M3 sedan is just slightly wider than the M4 coupe.
Excellent review Nathan. As a person who prefers manual transmission that speech you made about why you prefer manual in regards to "driving" a car was spot on. I couldn't have said it better myself. Looking forward to your next review.
This guy is good at reviewing
I like this video more than the usual ones. The music was not annoyingly loud. I do like some juvenile delinquent but that's okay it's nice to see a straight up professional video
However, you never did mention the one thing in the interior that you did not like. And why was I speeding ticket worth it?
Me too!
Thanks for the great review guys keep it up!
I do believe we are starting to see previously hidden depths in Nathan. Since the advent of Andre he is no longer having to single handedly carry the mantle of babe magnet and Roman's nursemaid. This welcome release has allowed him to develop his naturally philosophical character, his erudition. Hello, Nathan, the Renaissance man.
Regarding M4 being much wider than M3, data from BMW USA website: M3 - 73.9 inches, M4 - 73.6 inches. M4's height is lower, but that doesn't make it wider. Check your facts.
The transmission on this car is regarded as one of the best on the performance car market at nearly any price. I realize some prefer manuals but what could be wrong with this dual clutch.
I agree as long as the dual clutch tranny allows you to shift as fast as you want to shift and hold the gears where you want them id get it over a manual any day. However, bmw has been criticized over its DCTs being slower than other DCTs hopefully this is not the case.
Ultimatemxcn This gearbox allows you to shif when you want and hold gears until you change. It give you down shifts when you want, not like Mercedes gearbox that sometimes take a secound or 2 before it shifts down. Everybody has praised this ZF gearbox.
Actually the ZF8 transmission is better than the dct. Hence why the g80 uses it instead. I love the ZF8 in my 335i. It’s amazing.
would love to see you review a manual version. curious how the auto rev match affects the driving experience, haven't driven one myself yet but not necessarily a fan of the idea
very good video. one thing i like is the backround music.
I picked up the '15 M3 and really do like it. Agree with everything in the review. Also wished I had a stick, but the dealer said I would have to wait till January to get a stick and I wanted my car in September.
"I think it is metal" lol
It is a BMW of course it is a real metallic, which in this case is Aluminum. Also, it is not just a standard 7-speed automatic transmission, it is a DCT system that is easily one of the best in the industry. Other then those two comments, I enjoyed the review haha
The Fast Lane Car I do admit that this needs a manual, don't get me wrong, BMW makes a decent dual clutch but a manual would be the icing on the cake. Anyways, great car and great review.
BMW has adaptive dampers for people like you complaining of how stiff the suspension is. Also M4 comes in standard manual.
No 0-60 run!?! This was probably one of the most sedate M4 reviews I've seen. And let me tell you I've seen a lot. I love you guys, please try and pick up the pace on these reviews. I almost fell asleep.
Dear Nathan, here in Europe we drive mostly manuals for the last hundred years, and we are kind of fed up with manuals and clutch replacements and all that.
yes, because automatics don't have clutch and don't break.
Talk for yourself, we in Europe love our manual transmission and don't want pay extra for what we don't need.
Great athlete, and still available with a manual. Love the M3 sedan option!
Same generic not-$70k interior as every other BMW, and crappy exhaust note.
I have an E92 335i, that is my weekend car. And I miss driving it through the week. I can imagine how driving the M4 is.
love your car reviewing and you seem really truthful.. not many car reviews tell the truth your not one of them.. I own E92 M/// but still love the M4 but choose not to buy one because of the turbo, im an all motor guy.. keep up the good work and stay truthful..
really great review guys i love it maybe one of the best ever! it was very relaxing and honest straight forward, no bias...Nathan you're my favorite here glad you did this(i love Roman too) btw can you please take 2 minutes from your life and tell me more about how it accelerate does it slam in the face like let say new Mustang and maybe Camaro ? and how does feel overall again compare to V8s? btw thank god it comes with a manual as standard and they're selling more Manual than the lest Gen E9x which good! PLEASE DON'T IGNORE MY COMMENT!! i need you to tell me more about it. hey you seem like you lost some big part of your manliness you're so sad:( i told people Manual and Automatic are just like a Woman with no boobs, yes they're fun but....
Those are tough questions David and almost impossible to answer unless you drive the different cars back to back. Sounds like the making of a classic TFLcar mashup review. Please stay tuned.
+David MuscleGuy Ok, I'll bite. I gave up my M3 V8 vert last November to get my M4 vert. One of the first M4 Vert around. In a straight line slam in face, yes. Compared to the V8, but it's why I hate the car. The V8 was said to have no low end torque. Not that bad really. Yes the power was at the higher RPM but wow so well delivered. You will have almost no torque in the M4 then bam!! All at once. I hate the way it delivers the power. Also in the convertible the top squeaks constantly, and it's beyond annoying. 90K car! The exhaust note sounds like ass in my book. Most days I can't wait to get rid of it. Why would you buy this car in manual when the DSC is faster shifting? You will have your hands full just playing the throttle let lone trying to shift it.
Best review ever Nathan!! Very fair for the vehicle as well. I know that Roman is a BMW hater and he is biased when reviewing bimmers. This was a relaxing review, watched three times, I think you should embrace this style, it's great!
Judging by the beginning, I thought you were going to tell the story of how you got the speeding ticket, so that was a bit of a let down.
Are you going to take it to the track that you guys do your drag races on?
He's so baked. Great video of my somewhat dream car
It seems like suspension comfort on these cars simply comes down to engineering. My 991 C2S was very comfortable, the suspension soaked up everything really well. My current Audi RS5 is so stiff that I almost don't enjoy driving it on a daily basis. Makes me wonder how stiff the 1M, and if it is a good daily driver...
Nice intro.
The transmission is a dual-clutch, not an automatic. You're downplaying the car by saying it has an automatic. A dual-clutch is an automated manual gearbox, meaning that there is clutch but it's operated automatically.
I like this style review. Great job Nathan.
I love this era of BMWs. However, a lot of people in my area in GA do not like that I own a BMW. Their anger is visible. I find it amusing.
Cool review. Weird about the seatbelt thing. We have a 428i and it's got the helpers.
Saw the M4 in person at the dealer the other day when I went in for service, and it's damn sweet. My loaner was a 335i GT, though.. :)
great review guys!
did you mention about the drive train I assume rear wheel your driving it 5 mph when its designed for high speed
I'm a Corvette guy, but this looks like an amazing car. I always have had a spot for BMWs, great review and keep it up! Weird question for a review video however, but what is the song used in throughout the video? It really was a nice piece to go along with the review.
Would definitely get this in manual.
Great vid guys. Nathan : why so sad ?
He gained about 15 lbs lately ...:)
You bring up the corvette in the description but dont even compare to it in the review? Why bring it up then? Viewer expects that you will do so. Also, you casually mention at the end the DCT is very annoying but you dont elaborate. That might be something we want to hear more about? Great review but missed a view obvious talking points
Why does it seem every 2 minutes this guy wants to cry? He pauses and seems like he's about to tear up o.O
great videos but monitor your audio levels they change dramatically on all your videos
Did you prefer it to the stingray Nathan? Similar pricing.
A generally good and thoughtful review. However, the mantra advocating that a performance car should have a manual gearbox is getting very tiresome. The reason we car enthusiasts have opted for manual transmissions is that up until recently the only alternative was a "slush box" automatic with a torque converter that resulted in weaker performance. To now discount the performance advantage of a DCT because we want the "feel" of rowing through the gears questions the reviewer's credentials as a performance car enthusiast. Although not mentioned in this review, another misplaced criticism of this car is that the sound is not as good as the previous version or other cars with normally-aspirated engines. The reason motor heads have traditionally liked the wail of a V8,10,12 was originally not because the sound has some natural resonance in our brains, but rather because the only cars that made those sounds were ones at the top of the performance ladder. A true performance car enthusiast will disassociate the relationship of the sound with performance when better performance is to be had accompanied by a different sound.
All this talk about the " purity " of the manual transmission and the feeling of " control " a clutch and gear lever give the " proper " driver always puzzles me. I can only assume the people who feel this way have primarily driven automatics. It's the only explanation.
why throughout the video was the M4 shown being driven like my grandma's Camry?
Nice review buddy
i feel your love with the bmws
Never seen you drive that slow, the ticket worked wonders on your driving style.
Only BMW would name the 2-door 4 and the 4-door 3 because the naming scheme must be obeyed
That music doe
Getting a speeding ticket! With the BMW Nathan Thats a Proud moment xD
anyways Nice decent Video
That background is freakin beautiful......almost doesnt seem real
This guy needs to visit a doctor,he's obsessed with "Sticks" in cars. your in a $86k BMW not a $25k Civic SI. Look at all the high end car companies very little offer sticks. It's all paddle shifters now.
I'm just waiting for him to say BMW needs to wrap this car in Camo and add room for my gun-rack while I shift my own gears.
I know, it must be a car journalist thing like wagons to make them feel better about themselves. There was a time we hand cranked an engine to turn it over. It tells the driver if all the pistons are moving well and lets them feel when the pistons fire. The process brings the driver so close to the engine. Heck when we hand cranked the engine there was no need for a starter reducing weight. But who hand cranks there engine aside from race cars now?
What the paddle shifter allows is faster, smoother shifts that don't potentially grind a gear or stall the vehicle.
Porsche offers manuals. Aston Martin offers manuals. Lamborghinis offered manuals up until last year. There is much more for a driver in a manual car.
Manual is more control and more fun.
henoch44 Agree.
Did you try to drive a sports car that is manual?
Paired with the music you seemed very thought provoking haha
I'd love a quick sentence or 2 comparing it to the RS5, C63 and even the GTR. Price point is very close to the GTR now, which is a bit shocking. I'm cross shopping these options now, love to get your feedback on how the M4 compares to the GTR. Thanks!
It depends a lot on if you lean more to performance or luxury. Once you figure that out, your decision should be easy
I thought it wasn't very efficient to twin turbo charge a straight 6 engine.
This is a paddle shifters car but can you all so drive it with out changing any gears? Plss help
Wow. Im all for the manual. I love 'm!! However, you're the only one complaining about the dct. Everyone elso loves it and says it's on par or even better than the pdk from Porsche. Just find that weird. Still, I would buy the manual though if I won the lottery. Oh and about interior trim pieces. I don't get why reviewers complain about them or complain about the colour of the seats. When you buy the car, you can choose them.
You say it shakes your fillings loose then claim its comfortable. There is not a lot of feedback in the steering then go on to claim say it "tells you exactly what the front wheels ." Just feel like you are contradicting yourself a lot. Also whats wrong with the DCT?
How much was the ticket...and how fast were you going?
Is that Captain Kirk fighting a Gorn behind you?
So is it stiff or comfortable?!
No fireproofing under the hood at all, and I bet that engine gets hot as hell.....
86.000 $ im gonna cry now!!! It cost 180.000$ in my country
no video of how you got your ticket?? :(
When will you guys get your hands on a Lexus RC F and can you guys make a match up against the M4 with it maybe throw in a c63 too thx
Disagree with the reviewer regarding the transmission. it is a great transmission. But I can understand that prefers the manual
when he was saying thank you did he say don't give a shit?
Yeah, you didn't state anything about the speeding ticket after the beginning of the video.
Would love to see something more than a leisurely stroll: otherwise pretty sweet
Nathan, you're driving this car like an old man, hating the experience. It's an M4. I want to see great handling in your vids. Great acceleration runs through the gears. We never got to hear the engine's glorious sounds through the rpm's. I always admired you for wanting a great car to drive, then when you get one, you don't give us what we want. Speeding ticket or not. Call the State Police, close the road and get that testosterone happening.
What is the song that is playing the whole time?
I was hoping you'd depress the gas pedal every once in a while..after all it's a performance car! You guys can do better.
I really like the M4, but I'd personally take a C7.
Would you get an M4 or used 911 (991 body)?
Damn manual transmission is in an option on bmw m4 , if you hate automatic you can have manual
Beautiful area! Where did you guys film this? I love the exterior color, but those white seats, no thanks. I had a 72 Camaro; Placer Gold Metallic with a white interior. Never again!
Hey TFLC, is the 2015 Mustang GT w/6speed manual the poor man's M4, or is that not a fair label for the Mustang?
That's not a fair label for the M4.
Class of 2015 - Check out this in-depth review of the 2015 BMW M4 High Performance Sports Coupe by The Fast Lane Car. The review includes, engine inspection, interior and exterior overview, and a test drive. #2015BMWM4 #BMW #M4 #BMWM4 #MPower #MPerformance #TheFastLaneCar
Does anyone know the name of the music?
Great review btw, very relaxing and informative.
As the song is called from 0:45 to 1:17?
Can you guys do a review on the fj cruiser?
lol at title "Two Doors for the Price of Four" wtf?
Thanks for the comment. One Word: M3
The Fast Lane Car can i ask u where is this place? can u name it ? sry for my english
hashem alshehry Red Rocks, Colorado
The Fast Lane Car Er, M3 is two words. Actually, it's a letter and a number, but definitely not one word.
MrKeyboardCommando It's actually called alphanumerics... But who cares?
There is a manual version though. Which is quite suprising of BMW to still have.
Which is a good thing.
It's a german car, all germans car has a manual version as well as automatic.
Alamda195 If you think that, then you don't know anything about German cars for the last decade or so lacking manual transmission.
Jonathan Alerte i'm lacking german manual transition. I drive a manual transmission Yaris :#
All the new BMWs are overweight. All the carbon fiber is just for show. I can see why people like buying the old ones to enjoy as they have less electronics, less uneccessary engineering, and more road feel.
Very stiff, moving around cojones, yet a few seconds after that you say it's comfortable. Which one of the two is it?
7:30 - - - I referred to it as being very stiff when compared to the regular 4-Series - and it is.
nathan adlen okay, thank you for clarifying! And thank you for all the great content!
I usually love your guys's reviews but, on this car you needed to do a little more homework, you stated a lot of misinformation between the M4 and the M3. Now this makes me question some of your other car videos that I don't know as much about.
Love your channel....but this review....slow driving and slow music?
What instrumental is at 1:00?
Could you guys review the RC F?
Am I the only one who hates the M Sport steering wheel, it seems really thin and ugly. I prefer the regular one that comes with the 5 series (non M Sport). Does anyone else agree?
+Andy Kaladjian Sorry but the feeling on the M Sport steering wheel on my 535i is a real pleasure to use ! It is absolutely gorgeous (IMO).
Anyway, you can buy to your BMW dealer a different one (check out the brochure), there is even a M sport steering wheel with alcantara, not cheap though.
Awwww he is getting emotional. Makes the show more human not just numbers and straight reviews. :)
The price makes it exclusive. That's what some people pay for.
Are you talking about the M series specifically? Because I see BMWs everywhere. They're cheap to lease.
of course i meant the m cars. not every bmw costs 84 k. damn, i wish i had that much money. what a cutie ;)
dschonsie Gotcha.
Did you do this at 'Garden of the Gods"
