Cool. What would be more awesome is this with an electric motor and the wings covered in solar panels. Wonder how far away it is for the battery weight to power consumption to make this possible. Wold be awesome to see Stemme as the Tesla in the air
I haven't seen minimum sink rate data on this aircraft anywhere. The 53:1 glide ratio is impressive, but if you really want to soar with it, minimum sink rate is much more important. Who cares if you can glide a long way before you land (out) if you can't stay up without the engine. It looks like a sailplane, but is it really?
112ft/pm. A Duo Discus has a minimum descent rate of 114ft/pm. It’s a sailplane alright. Purists will always give motor gliders the stink eye. When a member of our soaring club bought an RF5B in 1984 it almost caused a riot. After most of the diehards had taken a ride in it and soared, very few nay sayers remained. If there’s a day with nice thermals during the week, not having to organize others to go flying is very convenient.
Hi Glenn! Wes might not see your comment here but if you'd like to get in contact with him, his contact info can be found at www.stemme.com/s12.html - just scroll down to the map and click on the pin over South Carolina. We hope this helps and you have a great demo flight! It's an amazing aircraft!
I’ve got one living 200 miles away in Columbia South Carolina. I might get a used one. The soaring itch is nagging me again. Just don’t have the time to participate in a club. A used S10 might just do the trick.
Hi there! Yes, the S12 is a new motor glider from Stemme. The S12 represents an evolution of Stemme’s S10, with several significant enhancements to the previous design. For more information visit www.stemme.com/s12.html
love ths glider concept so much
Beautiful & wonderful!
This is a fantastic craft. Is there a repair/maintenance facility in Northern California?
Beautiful!

Johan E Nilsson Definitely, they just better not take the gas option away until the electric option is just as good (like the tesla)
Ages away.
Your build dream!
Gentlement ! Is it posible that you can sell or export to other country of yr glider product ?
awesome aircraft, question though.. how long does the battery last considering the motor is not providing power while off?
Hi Andrew! There is a solar panel on top of the aircraft that charges the battery and keeps it charged even when the engine is off
very cool!! how long can the solar array keep everything running? considering clear VFR?
The solar panel will keep everything running indefinitely! As long as you have sunlight, your battery will stay charged.
Electric version?
i wonder just how far the range would be in this with adding long glides into its journey. climb glide repete
I am in Canada, range is about 800km or 500miles.

Why was he talking metres and feet for the wing span?
what type of license is required to fly this?
The Stemme S12 is certified as a glider, so you would require a glider pilot rating, and a self-launch endorsement
Great airplane but if you ding the prop, you better be prepared to wait over a year for new blades. Ask me I know. Cannot be aero towed.
What about useful load?
how far on powered flight???
The Stemme S12 has a range of up to 950 nm (1,759 km)!
Hey Wes! I'm waiting to take you up on the demo flight. Call me!

400k?
Цікаво яка його ціна нового і вживаного.?
What is the price of one of those gider?
Hi Frank! We recommend visiting www.stemme.com for more information. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
I ask just to have an idea .
Thanks for post your video I really love gliders, I don’t have any.
you just "unsold" me. Saying only speciallized mechanics can work on it. No good for me in Australia.
If you can afford that plane you can send some to the course, ;)
╭♥╯
Great if your stemme cert mechanic lives in your hangar. Otherwise you can fly them via G5 from Europe every week. Stupid 1%er airplane.

That kind different S12 from S10?
