    Great rant dude. My hope is that Maschine+2 comes out somewhere with some worthy upgrades, I really want to be working standalone, so no DAW. Got my plus just two weeks ago, brand new and for a steal, and although I am still figuring things out, I like the workflow better than that of my MPC. The controlling of external hardware synths with the MPC is out of this world, though, so good. I hope NI will work on that

  • @DJSlaughter
    @DJSlaughter 5 месяцев назад +12

    About the standalone topic. I beg to differ. I believe Maschine should double down the efforts for standalone for both the groovebox like they currently have and their keyboard line. The reason why I say this is because they have the library. And if they put the DAW That you mentioned in your video within that standalone device along with their library, they can wash Akai! Some people may say it's impossible, but the way technology has improved in the last 5 years alone, it is definitely possible

    • @BlackBeltTitus
      @BlackBeltTitus  5 месяцев назад +2

      That’s totally valid!!! What features do you feel would make the maschine + better? Cuz to me their is something super appealing about standalone honestly

    • @DJSlaughter
      @DJSlaughter 5 месяцев назад +1

      @BlackBeltTitus sorry this might be a long comment lol. But Maschine+ could be better if it was a full DAW within a standalone device. Sequencer, mixer, etc. I believe it should have access to all NI and izotope plug-ins. They shouldn’t automatically be installed, but the user should be able to download and install whatever plug-in they have available within their marketplace. I believe it should be powerful. No excuses. It needs an ARM chip, plenty of RAM and at least a TB of space. An artist or producer should be able to produce a whole album on this device without ever having to touch a computer. It should be able to connect to any mixer or interface like a computer would. Same for mixing control surfaces. Not only should the drum machines be standalone but the keyboards. I’ve been having ideas for a standalone device like this since 2015. I wanted it to be very familiar to anyone who uses a regular computer DAW. I was thinking of this because I got tired of lugging around my midi keyboard and my laptop. Admittedly at the time I did have a heavier laptop than I do now. But that’s not even factoring in the audio interface. So of course I was excited when Akai dropped the MPC Live. Fun fact, I was the one who leaked the original schematics of the first MPC live. Well kind of. I was in a MPC forum talking about the device that I wanted to create. And I said it would be nice if Akai or NI could do something like this. A lot of people in that group said it wasn’t possible. A few at Weeks later I was on google searching Akai standalone groovebox randomly. Don’t know why til this day, but there it was In the results, out in the open, the schematics to the first MPC live. And no one knew about it and no one was talking about it. So I took that link and posted it in that same forum. And people were mind blown. The next day my name was written in a whole bunch of articles about the leak of this potential new device. It was a crazy moment LOL. Sorry for the long comment. Honestly, I’m still trying to create that standalone machine. I just don’t have any design or engineering experience lol. Akai is 90% there but I want more

    Native Instruments are a complete shambles of a company since they got bought out and fired/lost half their staff. The whole Kontakt version update issue is just ridiculous for a start, for users of older (and brand new) macs, you have to have exactly the right version of Kontakt or it just won’t load anything you’ve already made. It’s shite. 7.8 is still 7. Therefore everything prior to 7.8 should still work with it. It’s utterly ridiculous that it doesn’t. Then there’s the whole non integration of the new komplete kontrol keyboard with machine. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. Then there’s the issue with maschine. No updates forever. It’s a fantastic bit of kit yet they just seem to not give a shit. Make the new one actually stand alone like the mpc,

    Maschine+ is an MPC One that runs Maschine firmware. It competes, its just overpriced because it lives in the wrong price bracket, buy they didn't have a choice because the MK3 is already $500+.
    If MK3 was $399, the Plus could be $700 and compete directly against the product it already does, practically speaking.
    Right now, it costs too much more than an MPC One and doesn't offer any advantages, and the price disparity is so high that even preferences becomes borderline indefensible.
    NI is doing terribly. They have been quite bad at updating their software to keep pace. I do agree that the MK3 is fine. But the Plus needs an update with an updated CPU (ARM) an NVMe slot and more RAM (and compatibility with Play Series Libraries and Reaktor Ensembles from Komplete) if they want to keep it at a $1K+ price point.

    Black Belt Titus you are right and wrong at the same time. A lot of people want stand alone Maschines. What NI should do is bring back their whole line of Maschine products like they had in the past this is why Akai is winning or is ahead of the game. NI should make a flag ship Maschine. Maschine studio Plus give it dual flip up touch screens (nice to have that option but still have all the buttons as usual) where you can flip up the screens individually or one long screen that flips up like on their S series controllers, 8 outs 2 xlr combo inputs with 48v phantom power for condenser mics 4 1/4 inch inputs, phono inputs, CV outs 8. Stem separation, full intergration of certain Komplete and Isotope instruments, with sound design capabilities, all the things the current Maschine has, MP3 support .SF2 support, time stretch, 10 audio tracks, vocal suite, internal HDD front SD card slot, 4 midi puts 2 midi inputs, 8gb Ram.
    Maschine Plus MK2 1XLR combo mic input, phono in, put 4 1/4 out puts, 2 1/4 inputs, HDD, Battery option, 8 audio tracks, 4GB Ram. 4CV gate outs , Flip up screen touch. 2midi ins 2midi outs.
    Maschine MK4 every output, and input of the Maschine Plus MK 2 1XLR combo mic input phono input 4CV gate outs, Unlimited audio tracks because it tethered to computer. SD card slot
    Maschine Mikro plus 2ins 2outs, mic input, 1 midi in 1 midi out, phono input, SD card slot (Just a thought) or just regular mikro with 2ins 2outs 1mic input phono input.
    Maschine Jam Plus Truely a live stand alone live performance instrument 2 XLR mic inputs 48v phantom power, 4 1/4 inputs 4 1/4 outputs HDD, Battery option, 8 audio tracks, 4gb Ram, phono input, cross fader that actually let you scratch incoming audio .wav .mp3 file.

    STEMS aka shitty mp3 sounding tracks. Not cool if you're spending a ton of money in great sounding audio interfaces and quality plugins if you're just gonna be using stems taken from fully produced samples. I wouldn’t quite say they announced a full software overhaul. what I read was more that they were focusing on some minor improvements but had no real plans to give the software a substantial update. There hasn’t been any substantial investment in Maschine for a few years now and the best they managed to in the latest version was a handful of bug fixes and making it compatible with last year’s MacOS version.
      Using the Maschine SW as a plugin is really clunky but as a DAW it has a massive potential because of the unique powerful way it integrates with the controller. There is a lot of low hanging fruit in the SW but for some reason NI doesn’t want to invest in it any more.
      Dropping Maschine support from the new keyboards was a telltale sign that Maschine is no longer a priority.

    I do not like to record audio for ideas when MIDI notes are a clear memory saving option. You can edit, change tempo, change sounds, and many other things when you can record the MIDI notes. With MPC, the crap forces you to have part of the song in the VST DAW or convert and drag the Audio files into the song. I really hate that limitation. Also, with MPC, you can not use the audio inputs on the Key 61 or whatever you are using if you are using an audio interface. You have to use the Audio interface for audio input. It is such a dung show.

    Your channel is amazing, and I enjoy watching, but I have to disagree with you. I think the Maschine Plus holds its own against any MPC. I believe that Maschine users are far more creative than the new MPC users because of the limitations. We most definitely have better sounds, and the workflow is faster. Therefore, NI doesn't need to scrap the M+; it just needs an update. When it comes to these drum machines, it's never been about built-in speakers and keys. While they are very convenient, the essence of the drum machine lifestyle is about sampling, and the M+ has absolutely no problem manipulating any sample that you feed into it.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY MPC KEY 37, and although I'll get hate for this, I'm glad I sold my Machine + and Kontrol Keyboard and got the MPC Key 37. It really comes in clutch with a beat machine AND a keyboard. Again, as a keyboardist, I truly appreciate the integrated keyboard, and in a portable platform. you make a great point when you say that the software should be the main focus and honestly i hope thats the direction that they go in. It seems like native instruments already has a great piece of hardware and the price is very competitive. To be able to work with maschine in FL like you can with Kontrol would be a game changer. I think if there is to be a mk4 it would be an upgraded stand alone variant with better/faster hardware and maybe a touch screen if your really into that. I was there and I've been there this while time. Ni was a software only company when Akai was almost entirely hardware. Linn created the MPC for Akai and was happy to do it and it took off. The best sampler company at the time was EMU and their systems were just too complicated and costly, so they were eventually purchased by Creative Labs in the 2000s and dismantled and that made Akai the top sampler company. Then Ni wanted to make more money and got into samplers. They were last to market and their products are good, but so expensive that they basically rip off their customers. Ni has always been all about money over customers. That's the entire reason I use Akai and avoid Ni like the plague. Because I know both companies well. Stop spreading your BS.
