- This 3D animation was designed to share life-saving information with the general public to demonstrate the importance of good effective CPR!
Effective compressions create an artificial pump and send oxygenated blood to the brain to keep the brain alive. CPR also keeps blood and oxygen moving through the heart muscle itself so that it has the best chance of being successfully defibrillated when the AED arrives.
After a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, brain damage will start to set in within 4 minutes and is irreversible after 10 minutes. CPR is the person’s only chance of survival while waiting for an automated external defibrillator to arrive.

@@msprincesss115 I think you need to match your pump with a normal heart beat timing, I think my heartbeat per minute is 80-90 or something so that's probably why they made it 100 per minute
Also don't stop when an AED arrives. Keep compressing while the pads are applied around you. Don't stop until the AED announces that it is Analyzing the patient, then either immediately after the shock, or immediately after it advises No Shock, resume CPR with as minimal delay as possible. Keep going until the patient either wakes up (rare), or professional medical help arrives.
but what if your the one person there? do you run off to get the aed?

@@jungkookthegoldenmaknae1237 Actually per the American Heart Association, if you are by yourself and can't send someone else to go get an AED, yes you do leave the victim to retrieve the AED (as well as calling 911) before starting CPR.

Resuscitation Council UK certified Doctor and Medical registrar leading in hospital cardiac arrests on regular basis. I must say this is the best graphic on CPR i have ever seen. This should be properly marketed to all professional resus council bodies across the world.
this and the heimlich maneuver should be taught to everyone in school.
The Heimlich manoeuvre has been removed from firstaid training many years ago. Please do not use this technique. Perhaps you should update your own first aid skills
@@nicbrown7751 where do you live? I’m in med school and I literally learned the Heimlich maneuver in first aid class😄 Then how would you get for example a piece of food out of the oesophagus while the other person is choking and can’t get it out by coughing?

@@annaszente825 I don’t know where you live, however this outdated technique is no longer taught in many countries around this world. Easy way to rupture a diaphragm. The replacement technique for choking is 5 firm blows between shoulder blades and 5 firm blows on sternum. Quick google check would confirm this information.Repeat process.
If you have someone who is obese, how do you get your arms around them to perform the heimlick? What about heavily pregnant women and neonates? The first aid training in my country and many countries around the world does not train the heimlich, it has been removed from the actual training.
I took a life guard class a while back and learned how to do CPR. Though we used practice dummies, it was hard to visualize how our compressions were affecting the body and adjust so that it’s more efficient. This video cleared up all of my uncertainties. Very informative!
So remember play CPR when doing CPR to save a life

Erroneous meme has the posterior side of the heart staying still and pumping blood. The heart moves with the compressions but uses transthorascic pressure differential to move blood.

Please also mention the need for pumping air into the lungs.. Isn't that necessary during a cpr?
Well CoVid happens, and a CPR itself can resuscitate without M2M resuscitation.
If it is a "witnessed" cardiac arrest (the person was actually seen losing conciousness) there will be enough oxygenated blood in their circulatory system to do compressions only. Plus, compressions help the lungs inhale/exhale slightly to introduce fresh oxygen. This gives you some time before the patient has to be helped with breathing at some point.

Everyone may be scared of the idea of doing CPR but when you are put into a situation where you need it you can and will do it. Source: my moms heart stopped at home and I had to rush and give CPR until the paramedics arrived and she's still with us today. Life and death situations are always scary but when you know what to do you can do it.

I think you should go to your nearest medical college and ask them for a model for performing CPR. Because it is PHYSICALLY EXHAUSTIVE unless you are some athlete who does gym everyday
Really? Almost the opposite for me. Now I know I somehow have to get 120 pumps per minute, but going too fast or slow won't work, I'm not that great at counting my speed like that.

@@zestranfaubert6860 it isn't really "counting speed" (whatever that means), it's just a rhythm. You don't need to be perfectly exact. Any cpr is better than no cpr.
The fact that this is not universally taught in schools is concerning. This would certainly help more than knowing where Napoleon was defeated.

Most important lesson: Don’t stop. Sounds obvious, but don’t stop if the ribs break, don’t stop when someone’s saying you’re going to kill them, don’t stop when they seem dead already, just keep going until ems gets there. They may very well be dead, but you gave them the best chance. They may have every rib in their chest broken, but they just might be alive as well.

Almost four years ago, I performed CPR untrained on my mother, who'd passed out right in front of me. After about a minute,, she woke up, sat bolt upright, grabbed my shirt, looked me dead in the eyes, and asked me to help her before passing out a second time. I did CPR for another 5 minutes before help arrived. Sadly, about 2 hours later, the ER doctors declared my mother deceased. Her heart just basically gave out because it was so weak from years of suffering from type 1 diabetes, several massive heart attacks, extreme congestive heart failure, a double bypass when I was 10, a couple blocked veins they couldn't repair, and failing valves. They did everything they could...her heart just didn't have the strength to restart.
I'm an asthmatic, and have epilepsy, and nearly gave myself both a seizure and an asthma attack trying to save my mother's life. In that moment, I honestly didn't care what happened to me...I just knew I needed to keep my mom alive. Where they were taking her, I could get help if I needed it, too.
My mom's cardiologist called me a "hero." I don't see myself as one. After all, my mother didn't make it. Heroes save people...I failed to save her. OK, yeah, I didn't stop trying, and that in and of itself may be considered "heroic," but I still failed to save her.

Wow that's pretty deep. Sorry for your loss but don't blame yourself. I know its easier said than done but you really did everything humanly possible. I hope you make peace with yourself and look back at this with no guilt in the future, but with pride that you did all you could. You didn't fail in your actions but as you said her heart was weak and unfortunately it was her time to go... Im sure she is proud of you, for all you did for her.

I wish I could say something that could take away the pain you’re probably feeling, I wish I knew what to say to help ease the loss, but I’m going to try.
It hurts, it’s going to keep hurting, I’m not gonna sugar coat it and say the pain goes away, you just learn how to shoulder it a bit better. I lost my parents as well, and even fourteen years later, I still miss them, I still think was there anything I could have done differently? You can’t do that though because it’s just a vicious cycle of self blame and self loathing
But know your mother doesn’t think you failed, she knows you did everything humanly possible to save her, the EMTs did everything humanly possible to save her, and the doctors did everything humanly possible. Like you said, her heart just didn’t have the strength, it had nothing to do with you or anybody else, it was just…a bad heart that couldn’t keep going.
Her heart maybe couldn’t keep pumping, but it will forever keep loving you.
Best CPR tutorial by far. Explaining exactly what's going on when you do it wrong vs right is something a lot of tutorials on this lack, but it's SO IMPORTANT

I’ve been a certified first aider for years but giving CPR is a critical task that I haven’t done yet in a real life scenario and as the years go by, even with constant re-training, it still scares me to think sooner or later I’ll need to perform this on someone who is relying on me to save their life. Now I realize what emergency crews go through on a daily basis and I respect them so much.

My father did this on my grandmother.. And she got conscious... But she again had second heart attack a few minutes later and she passed away..☹️

I'm an EMT, and this should be compulsory across the world. There's so many misconceptions about it, and it's such a simple thing to teach but so very powerful.

@@gloriouschannel3683 heart attack ≠ cardiac arrest. a heart attack can cause cardiac arrest, but not all cardiac arrest is caused by a heart attack. In young people, the causes of cardiac arrest are usually cardiomyopathies and arrhythmic syndromes.

This stuff freaks me out. But I clicked on this because someone might need me to do this for them some day. And if I don't know this, that person may pass away. Hopefully no one ever needs this.
There was a guy that carried a device that removes objects from someone's throat when they're choking. He had the device in his car for 5 years and never used it. And one day, he was in a restaurant when a baby started to choke. He ran to his car for the device, used it on the baby, and saved his life.
It takes just one occasion, and you will make a massive difference.

Ive worked in an ICU as an RN. Ive done compressions on so many people. Ive cracked so many ribs. One time on a 90 something year old the ribs peirced through the skin. I remember feeling the persons heart compress and fill up with blood in the palm of my hands when doing cpr.
It should be a mandatory course at school along with other emergency aid techniques, and survival skills like swimming, and dealing with fire hazards, etc.

That's what the shock pads are for.
Technically the heart still beats....but the rhythm is so bad (just like bad compressions from CPR. Too fast, not strong enough, etc. ) that the body starts dying, and let me tell you, some parts (the brain- yes, but also the delicate heart muscles too) can die off or get damaged very fast. The shock is supposed to STOP the heart. That might allow it to naturally 'jump into' its normal, so-called 'sinus' rhythm.
Actually you're correct. Due to lack of oxygen the heart muscles stops pumping. This is when you no longer feel any pulse or hear a heart beat or see a flat line in the heart monitor. CPR is done afterwards so that blood will again flow to those parts of the body that needs oxygen especially the heart. Doing CPR helps bring back oxygen to the heart causing it to start pumping again. Using shock pads or defibrillators helps only if there is an irregular heart beat that can cause the heart to not pump properly which if not corrected will cause it to stop pumping. It's like resetting the heart. In other words unlike in the movies, defibrillation(shock pads) is only used if there is still a heart beat on the patient not without or flat liners.

Ribs need to break, that usually happens with the first push and then you should start doing 30 pushes after that you should inhale through the person's mouth closing their nose, and then perform it again. CPR gives best results when performed correctly.

While I understand the process as I’m watching this at home, I feel like if I’m in a situation where CPR is needed, my nerves would get the better of me and I’d mess it up 😰
If you get emergency services on a phone they will talk you through it, they do an excellent job of keeping you calm.
The most important factor in avoiding panic is practice, ideally as realistic as possible.

Any CPR is better than no CPR
Even though you are scared do it anyway. Better to do it and maybe get it wrong or maybe get it right than just watching him die
I've been through CPR and Advanced CPR several times and EMT school. This is far better than any of the American Hart Association's big budget cheesy demonstration videos used in certification. 2:50 is very important: broken ribs are common and a sign of effective CPR. Ribs can heal, but a brain without oxygen for even a few minutes won't recover.

It's honestly nice to know that broken ribs are normal when doing cpr. When my health teacher was teaching us cpr, he said that you should push hard, but not hard enough to break the ribs otherwise you would be doing it wrong. I was so confused back then because he said to push 1-2 inches and I knew that if you push that deep at a rate of 120 compressions a minute, you'd probably break a rib.

@@johnpaulbarrientos3006 I'm a marine engineer working onboard and in our training in academy, first thing teacher said about CPR is if you're doing it right you'll also break the ribs and that's normal.
I’ve been on many full arrests and have yet to feel ribs “breaking”. I’ve never even felt popping or cracking. The ribs don’t actually break in majority of cases according to the Red Cross and AHA
This doesn't necessarily save someone's life, but it keeps your chances of coming back way higher.
I had a cardiac arrest at work in March of this year. Fortunately my co-worker was a CPR instructor. She started CPR within minutes of my collapse.
I received 3 shocks from the the AED before the paramedics arrived. They continued CPR all the way to the hospital. If it wasn't for her training and skills I would not be writing this.

My CPR course did not go into as much details as this video - about the effects (the why) of pushing hard, deep, etc. good video 👍
@Russia But they should at least know, luckily my teacher had dummy's and had a green light if you were doing good enough and tested our CPR skills and made us practice this for about 3 weeks
I’ve done cpr a total of 7 times and have saved 5 out of those 7. Cpr is a very important skill to learn and maintain. This is a great video!

@Muhammad Hussam it really depends on your paramedic or person in charge to call it. I’ve done CPR for 45 minutes on one patient but that’s because the doctor told the medic we need to continue but she was asystole.

@@sipo3600 to begin with, cardiopulmonary resuscitation is not performed by a single resuscitator. At least two resuscitators should perform CPR, because heart massage should not be interrupted until death or signs of life occur.

This is a the best tutorial i've ever seen, and will probably save more lives than what I was taught in the early nineties i.e. pausing to deliver a breath far too often and not pushing hard enough.

@@JesusTorres-zu8wz most training classes don’t show you exactly what’s going on during the process. I took my first CPR class back in high school and it wasn’t explained like this. The only reason I know it is because I told my doctor about having to take it to graduate. I asked him, being medical professional, what the best technique is for to tell if you’re pumping enough. Then he explained to me how it all works.

Ya, scary to think about at first. I’ve seen hundreds (thousands?) of CPR events-ribs usually break. It’s necessary.
I remember talking to a paramedic and asked about breaking ribs during CPR (the paramedics did a visit at my school and showed off the gear they had to save lives). His response was basically we can fix anything else later at the hospital but only if they're alive. Keep in mind I was about 12 at the time

I hope to god we don’t have to come across a situation like this. But it’s very important to know the information just in case.
My daughter who is a resident doctor casually mentioned that she saved a 17 year old girls life in this manner. After seeing this I asked her about it. She told that since the girl was young, she took it in herself to do all she could. She did CPR for more than an hour and she told, yes many ribs were broke. But the girl lived.

They didn’t show the breaking of the sternum or ribs. It is really a nasty experience braking those and then feeling the heart in your hand. This is never as easy as they make it look
How will the heart end up in your hand, come on. I have done countless CPRs and nobody's heart has ever jumped out of their chest into my hand. Besides, ribs are held in place by many muscles. Just don't worry.

@@AA-bz1pr it is bro. CPR is no joke and it can be very disturbing both during and after. They make it all peaceful here, but there is bile, blood, people freaking out/crying and a general atmosphere of tragedy. You get used to it and just stay the course after your 2nd or 3rd one, but you can’t unsee it. They don’t tell you about having to find the femoral pulse or how to bag and breath for the patient either. Also, if they aren’t shocked out of v-fib within a few minutes, the chances of survival or normal life decreases. I’ve never had ROSC because of where I respond to is all volunteer work and rural so we aren’t able to get there on time. To be honest, we often pump on the chest just to give the family assurance we’re doing all we can, but by then, it’s unfortunately a lost cause. This just being real.
But you never know. So I keep showing up just to maybe someday save a life.
I was hoping theyd show something about this too! Especially when done against younger kids, some people doesn't realize that cpr is different on kids since theyre more fragile, and you shouldn't put too much pressure

I love this video ... it really saves a lot of lives .... one of them is my Life !!! I personally experienced it !!! Last December 2018 I suffered Cardiac Arrest and collapsed while playing Basketball . Fortunately there are people knew how to do CPR . They performed CPR on me for about 15-20 min. Until the Ambulance came and took me to the Hospital . Timing is really critical and I thanks God that he gave me my second life and to those people who patiently gave me CPR . By the way , I undergone an Angioplasty procedure wherein they put "Stent" inside the Blocked Artery in my heart .

But whats pretty scary about CPR is how violent it is in reals life. If you ever have to perform CPR on someone you have to break their ribs. Sure, makes sense if you think about it (our ribcage is supposed to protect us from getting to touch the heart). I just don't like to imagine to break someones ribs even if they probably won't feel much at first.
It's a pretty terrifying feeling, but I try to get through it by reminding myself that ribs can be fixed but death cannot.
Don’t worry about that. Ems will probably drill a needle into their bone to give fluids. They won’t complain at all
CPR is still required once an AED is present, just not whilst analysing and shocking.
This, an AED does not replace CPR, it can shock the heart into a normal rythm if it has fibrillation because of the CPR.
