The only reason they became so beloved to many is because they were cheap for television networks to buy the rights to. Same thing with the Wizard of Oz.

That chain would only show a limited number of Fox releases each year. That summer, some markets got Titan AE, others got Big Momma's House. Fox did a big advertising push for Titan, but the film's limited availability in places did nothing to help its numbers. Big Momma's House, on the other hand, did quite well. I like Geena Davis, but it think Cutthroat Island would have faired a little better in the hands of another lead.
The only reason It’s a Wonderful Life became a Christmas classic is because it was free to show, so the TV channels started showing it nonstop around Christmas.
When I got a new job, as was wont to happen, they gave me a nickname. I was "spaceman". I endured that name until we got a new employee and we gave him the name "Astro Boy". Every time I hear about Astro Boy it reminds me of those long gone days.
Many of these films I've actually seen, some in theaters but mostly on home video/VOD or a discount theater. The biggest issue is getting enough people to pay full price for a first-run big screen presentation. For some reason or another, audiences simply didn't feel the urgency. Heaven's Gate could have been divided into a trilogy - they certainly had enough footage to do so! It would have at least made UA their money back. But that strategy would have been unthinkable at the time.
Balto (1995) - Amblimation Although the film has gained a sizable cult following on home video and DVD, “Balto” was not a critical and commercial success upon its theatrical release. It didn’t help that the film came out A MONTH AFTER Pixar’s “Toy Story”. It was pulled from theaters after its third week, and Amblimation (an animation production arm of Steven Spielberg’s “Amblin Entertainment”) was shut down after only three films (the other two were “An American Tail: Fievel Goes West” and “We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story”). The good news is that a lot of the animators who worked on that film would go on to work at “DreamWorks Animation” (an animation subsidiary of Spielberg’s other production company “DreamWorks Pictures”).
Solo: A Star Wars Story. This movie was actually extremely good, but between competition with the Mad Titan and Deadpool, poor marketing, and fans still busy bitching about the Last Jedi, it was the first SW film to achieve a net loss.
What?!. Astro boy got a movie? OH MY. That Final Fantasy movie was atrocious. Why would you do a movie using a gaming franchise to then no use ANYTHING related to what make the franchise popular to being with it WOW TITAN A.E. I haven't hear about that one in 20 years
Personally, I was disappointed with "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" because of nearly everything that the movie had: A failed plot and a limited budget. But I also felt that "Superman III" was a downer as well and it was because of the plot itself and the involvement of the late Richard Pryor as well. I wished that Mr. Pryor wasn't in the movie because there was a little too much comic relief and it didn't really help the film at all.

Fox did a big advertising push for Titan, but the film's limited availability in places did nothing to help its numbers. Big Momma's House, on the other hand, did quite well.
I like Geena Davis, but it think Cutthroat Island would have faired a little better in the hands of another lead.
"Heaven's Gate" the movie that killed Michael Cimmino's career. Ouch!!! 😬
And derailed the popularity of the Western genre for a while.
Well the problem with "Heaven' Gate" was that the people who financed it were too stupid to realize that "The Deer Hunter" stunk too.
Titan A.E. and Final Fantasy Spirits Within were the best despite being box office bombs.
Titan was a good movie but yeah
Titan A.E is a classic imo like Treasure Planet
The only reason It’s a Wonderful Life became a Christmas classic is because it was free to show, so the TV channels started showing it nonstop around Christmas.
Why did I think the golden compass was Narnia; I have to go back and rewatch that.
I enjoyed the Golden Compass (though I've not read the books). Regardless of what people are saying about it.
When I got a new job, as was wont to happen, they gave me a nickname. I was "spaceman". I endured that name until we got a new employee and we gave him the name "Astro Boy". Every time I hear about Astro Boy it reminds me of those long gone days.
Heaven’s Gate should have been number one. United Artists was a major studio.
I blame *Transamerica* (UA's corporate owner) more than Heaven's Gate
Many of these films I've actually seen, some in theaters but mostly on home video/VOD or a discount theater. The biggest issue is getting enough people to pay full price for a first-run big screen presentation. For some reason or another, audiences simply didn't feel the urgency. Heaven's Gate could have been divided into a trilogy - they certainly had enough footage to do so! It would have at least made UA their money back. But that strategy would have been unthinkable at the time.
I loved Astro Boy. It was faithful to the original anime.
It’s sad that Astro Boy, Ant Bully, and Titan A.E were such bombs. I LOVED those movies growing up
TitanA.E was a wonderful movie seems like viewers wanted more
One of the problems of the final fantasy spirits within it's not final fantasy, most game fans were also probably thrown off as well
I loved astro boy for me its a classic
Agreed :)
I went to the movies to see it when it first came out and enjoyed it
The golden compass was so good! Definitely underrated
Funny, I was watching Astro Boy on Netflix just the other night.
Cutthroat Island is currently the 4th largest box office bomb of all time behind John Carter, The Lone Ranger, and 47 Ronin.
Ant Bully not only got DNA Productions shut down but the 4th and Final Season of Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius was Cancelled
Ouch :(
Balto (1995) - Amblimation
Although the film has gained a sizable cult following on home video and DVD, “Balto” was not a critical and commercial success upon its theatrical release.
I was the demographic for Titan A.E. I love that movie
"Isn't that my club sandwich?" "Not anymore" hahahaha
Solo: A Star Wars Story. This movie was actually extremely good, but between competition with the Mad Titan and Deadpool, poor marketing, and fans still busy bitching about the Last Jedi, it was the first SW film to achieve a net loss.
yeah..
Ballistic Ecks Vs. Sever was One of the Films that Ruined Studios.
In a way...it helped put a nail in the coffin of Franchise Films, but Battlefield Earth tipped it over the edge.
Most disappointed is for game of thrones season 8 😕😕
tarun bisht Thats a show tho and the company is still fine
Raise the Titanic is one of my all-time guilty pleasure movies. And great music too!
I enjoyed astro boy, it really hit my heart.
Some of these are great, but I’m glad the Golden Compass took the studio down. They murdered that book. Murdered it!
What?!. Astro boy got a movie?
OH MY. That Final Fantasy movie was atrocious. Why would you do a movie using a gaming franchise to then no use ANYTHING related to what make the franchise popular to being with it
WOW TITAN A.E.
To the beautiful person scrolling throught the messages i wish you a great day and a blessing year.
A watchmojo fan here.❤
Small channel love and support❤
I saw Astro Boy with some friends for my 8th birthday. One of my best friends gave me a Happy Meal toy of Astro Boy. Still sits on my nightstand.
In my opinion I really liked Astro Boy
I honestly had no idea there was an Astro Boy film released in 2009. I worked at a movie theater that year and I swear we didn't even get it.
