Benny Martin was my fiddling hero I used to se him on those old gangway Opryland television shows from the fifties he was so good and then after all those years of hubbin it he's still a show stopper love big tig lol 😂
One of the all time great bluegrass stylists. Benny Martin is often overlooked, but his fiddle work on the classic Flatt and Scruggs recordings set a standard.
Thats the Benny Martin Spirit, one hell of a fiddle player, inventor, writer, Pioneer, invented the 8 string fiddle, Sparta Waltz could never be such a Angelic sound until Benny put his touch with that solid double stop tune, as Benny said in one song, get your guitar Lester and lets go, they came up together, Miss you Man, love you Benny, RIP SIR BENNY, you left us with lots of memories, and i know you are making music in GLORY LAND !!
ive allways loved this song from the first time i heard it sung by many great singers but these guys have sent the wabash cannon ball down the line in top cog as fast as lightning pure brilliant players every one of them heaven must be a lively place with these guys up there
I met Benny a few times myself. Played music with him too at Hartford's house and Larry Perkin's house jams. Really different style of playing he had! Super nice guy too.
You wouldn't happen to have a recording of the bluegrass show Ricky Skaggs put together with Monroe, Earl, Benny, and himself (Skaggs), would you? Ricky talked about it on another YT video and said it turned out great, but no one has ever seemed to come forward with a tape of it. Tommy Goldsmith told me he was at the show, and it was good indeed. Thanks!
John Hartford and Benny Martin died within three months of each other in 2001. Way too early. RIP. These guys were legends.
yep so sad -- really good musicians with interesting musical ideas to boot --

Love the way Hoot looks at Benny. Sheer admiration
I'm surprised the stage didn't catch on fire! I've never seen such energy. John and Benny top them all, amazing in a group of 10's.

Man, he was an entertainer. Put everything he had into it and still made it look natural. Gave a lot of credit to his fellow musicians too.
Yes. He loved entertaining & had respect for all musicians.
MASTERS!!!! Love the rubber bands on Benny’s fiddle holding the mic in place :-D
