As a Tunisian, I think you have summarized the situation in Tunisia beyond just tourism and hotels. ask anyone who's been to Tunisia in like 2006 or 2008 or even in the 70s or 90s. Tunisia was a place that really pays attention to detail, the little things that make a place quality! It is for me personally extremely disappointing what the once mighty nation of Africa and Carthage used to be has turned out to be today. But i cannot do anything to it as people see the reality but don't want to work together to change it. so many Tunisians citizens and politicians alike have chosen the self-destruction path. Thank you for the powerful message. Please always show the full picture.

Guys... you made me cry...I am a tunisian living abroad, it is sad to see a beautiful country like ours suffering especially that tourism is playing a huge part in its GDP, nowadays, many doctors and engineers are leaving Tunisia (including me who works as an engineer) looking for a better future over the seas due to the economical crisis which the country is facing (and which is not the fault of Tunisia itself, but a result of globalisation and of what is going on in the world nowadays, small economies like ours cannot resist against the huge scenes that are having place today worldwide), but somehow Tunisia is still telling us "I am still here, beautiful, as you always know me to be"

Ah thank you for the lovely comment and sorry that we made you cry! It was not our intention to upset but only to show both the beauty and the reality of what is happening here. I hope you are having a good time abroad, do you think you will visit Tunisia again soon?

I left Tunisia 20 years ago, and every time I go back I'm just stunned. The whole country is in a phase of decay unless a miracle happens. It is the shadow of its former glory. After the revolution of 2010. Tunisians mismanaged their country and by their own choices gave it to a bunch of amateurs politicians who kept destroying everything on their path. They ended up giving up on their country and most of them think only about leaving and going live somewhere else. Thank you for showing the reality.

@@courtsandmeeks FYI the abandoned hotel you went into was closed down in the mid 2000. So quite a few years before the 2010 revolution and not necessarily a sign of tourism decline, as the mid 2000 saw a massive tourism boom in Tunisia and was by far more popular than Morocco. But like I said in my previous comment, you've touched on an important subject that goes beyond hotels in general, cheers ^^

Hi Courts and Meeks, the country was hit 10 years ago by some terrorist attack waves ( today it's no more the case), you can imagine the impact of that on the tourism. Also we were hit again by the pandemic, no more flights to the country, restrictions .. this explains a bit the difficult situation that many hotels went through and that led some of them to abandon the business. I liked the concept of your videos about Tunisia, we really need people like you to come and highlight many spots, that we as local people may not see it: This is the best promotion that we can have, THANK YOU. I am looking forward for more videos and experiences from you vlogs.

In life the wheel turns continually, and things that were once good fade and turn bad, but as the wheel continues to turn, good follows and returns and is reinvigorated. Just how fast the wheel turns is down to how much energy is put into turning it. If the people work to change the situation, good will come of it. If no effort is spent then the wheel turns much more slowly, but it does keep turning. Such is life. 👋

I'm so sad about the dog and cat situation, seems worse than Turkey there, we definitely can't put it on our list for now because of our dog but hopefully in the future we get to explore Tunisia too. As we're from the tiny rock in the Mediterranean we really understand what you mean, back in the days when we were younger a lot of tours were organised there, it was where everyone used to go for a holiday from Malta because flying on your own wasn't a thing back in the days and it's 1 hour away, plenty of Maltese have been there before and they remember it as it was before, it was like the Maldives but who knows ejjj you'll encourage and inspire people to go there too. Thank you for the lovely comment! I'd say that there are probably fewer dogs in Tunisia than in Turkey in terms of strays, it is just that hotel seemed to be the place to hang out for strays. There have been some at wild parkups but probably not as much as Turkey. There are more cats in the cities and towns as they are well looked after by locals as they see them as good pest control and are considered 'cleaner' than dogs. Really interesting to hear your experience of coming here, we'd love more people to come in the future as we've had such a good time so far! Hope you're doing well xx

I loved the charm of the Tunisian people and their culture in the early 80's. Very interesting place to visit on many levels.Nowhere has been left untouched during these 40 years and tourism had such a large part to play in its prosperity. Increased cost of living prices, airport congestion, lower wages, other alternatives for spending all take their toll and further away holiday destinations, as amazing as they are, find it difficult to compete.

As you know from previous comments, my husbands family is from Djerba. It is so upsetting to see this happen to this gold Coast island. Back in 1992, I can actually say that I was probably the only English person in Djerba. The majority of tourists were from France, Italy, Spain and Germany. If you looked for a holiday in a brochure or online package holidays, we're not available to us, but in 2010, they were, and it was great. But yeah, the 2011 revolution hit, terrorist attacks happened in the North, then covid.
For us, we have to travel to either Paris or Tunis and get a flight to Djerba from there as there were no longer direct flights. Tunis air has also cut back on its flights. It's just all too much. We now drive to Djerba from the UK as car hire to is expensive. We drive from the UK to Marseille and then boat to Tunis, and we stop with family for a day and eventually drive to Djerba and take the ferry from the mainland to Ajim.
You mention in previous vlogs that it's cheap. Yes, it is for us, but for a local, since the revolution, prices have gone up. What I mean is the price of bread, milk, eggs, cheese was a set price but now it's like the UK and the prices vary. The revolution has had a good outcome, but in other ways, it hasn't.

I find your comments very interesting. I'm actually in Djerba at the moment, having arrived on a flight from Tunis last night. I'm not even sure how Djerba came to my attention, but once I started researching it, I knew I had to visit. But then I realised that whilst there are direct flights here from many places in mainland Europe, to get here from London meant a change of planes somewhere, and as Nouvelair had some good fares from Gatwick to Tunis, I decided to head there first to spend a few days before flying onwards to Djerba. But even so, Nouvelair currently only flies between London and Tunis twice a week! I started to realise that outside of the main resorts of the likes of Hammamet and Sousse, Tunisia just doesn't seem to be a favoured destination for us Brits! Even flicking through the TV channels in my room last night, I found that I could watch programmes in French, Italian, German, Spanish...even Japanese! But for anything in English, I'm limited to BBC World. It just seems that we're not expected to want to come here.
I know that the awful events of 2015 had put many British tourists and travellers off from visiting Tunisia, and I know that most of the victims were British, but were we being specifically targeted, or was it just a very unfortunate coincidence? I just wonder why other European visitors weren't put off. I recall years ago adverts for the country on TV, with the tagline, "In your dreams, you've been to Tunisia", but such adverts are no more. Is more marketing needed? I don't know, but it is very sad that so many of us don't seem to be interested in this beautiful country.

Tunisia had always a big tourism boom since the country's inception really and it ties back to our cosmopolitan status of civilizations' crossroad. However since the revolution some intelligence agencies from many countries (mainly France and Qatar) worked really hard on tarnishing our image by executing vicious terrorist attacks in key places like Soussa and Bardo(Tunis) followed by a long compagne of demonization on BBC Aljazeera and France24. Many of our "friends" banned their citizens from traveling here labeling us a high risk country. This coordinated attack worked really well and our economy has been tanking since 2011, but 2014 is when countries like France and Qatar (maybe Turkey too) started to conspire against us. And now the country is totally reliant on IMF and Paris club isn't off the picture. Coincidence? I don't think so...

That is a bold claim, in fact putting the blame on others is the easiest game ever, as if the tunisians (the political figures and parties) were not responsible... Let's hope the future will be bright for Tunisia

There are interests in play that's true. For instance Morocco's interests in banking off of Tunisia's miserable years post-revolution worked pretty well for them (for a while) they're also going the shite road. But it's no where near a full conspiracy as you label it. it's interests. and Tunisians forgot everything about working hard, being competitive in an ever competitive world. Oh, and also Tunisians keep choosing to stick with the french language and educational system hence the lack of economical prospects...

As if you don't find lost hotels and castles in other countries. I don't see anything special about filming it. They exist everywhere in the world. The hotel takes part of the majority of the footage as if the country is full of them. Although you visited every beautiful place and you know that it's totally the opposite. But you insist on showing the few negative sides more than the many positive sides in all of your videos. That's not how you attract viewers by the way. A thumbnail with a shocked face and a caption saying 'sad' gives the impression to viewers that the country is still under chaos, destroyed, poor and most of it's hotels got lost. Is there anything that harmed you in the hotel? Then why are you showing it ? Tunisian people hosted you in their country and you know how welcoming they are , this is how you reward them? At least you support them with some professional footage. Show Tunisia some love as you said in your video. You're still new in the vlogging world, you should have smarter footage , captions and thumbnails honestly. You don't have the right to harm a county's image by your misleading footage, and don't tell me that you're free, your channel is public. So please be professional.

Hey Assma, we actually have filmed abandoned places in other countries and find them fascinating to explore (as do our viewers through us) - go check out the Sardinia off roading video where we drive to an abandoned mine and miners village where the old houses used to be, or, shipwrecks in Greece, or abandoned villages perched on a hilltop in Italy. We have not singled out Tunisia with this video but we have to be honest and show both the beautiful sides and the sadder sides of travel too. You cannot expect vloggers to only show good and perfect looking places as this does not show a true reflection of the world or any country. Your comment makes it sound as though we made a whole video about the negatives of an abandoned place but this is not true - the title and thumbnail show both sides beauty and decay and the abandoned hotel is only in the 2nd half. We were very careful to make sure we show both sides equally including a thriving hotel where we stayed as well as the beauty of Djerbahood. Please go and check out some of our other videos on Tunisia because we have made many now that are all about the beauty and positive travel experiences like meeting locals in Kebili, the natural wonder of the Sahara Desert and camping in nature, the amazing history of the south around Chenini as well as a whole video with a title and thumbnail dedicated to promoting the sahara festival and how the media doesn't show this positive side that we have seen and show in our videos. Our only intention is to be truthful and fair with what we show, and hope to promote travel to the country to our followers. It seems you only comment on the videos where you find a small negative you don't agree with but never comment on the positive videos, why is this?

@@courtsandmeeks @Courts & Meeks Because even the negative sides you're showing have nothing to do with The country itself.
Go check your video Titles, all of them include negative adjectives.
You're talking about Italy, Italy is one of the most visited sites in the world. Showing bad sides in it won't harm it because people already know how beautiful it is. No matter what you'll show, they will visit it . But Do they know Tunisia? No.
Why do you think? Because no one is promoting it and when they speak about it , they picture it as a dangerous country in the news or they show its weird sides as you did. We've already had enough of rumors and false news. We need to be careful about what to show to the world. Because they don't know us.
You can film scammers, thieves if there are any, or talk about high prices or bad quality products, anything that harm you as a person, it's your right and we'll stand up with you and be sorry for that. But Bringing a minority and showing it in your highlights, gives the impression that this is who we are.
At least don't let it take part of the majority of the footage and don't put it in your captions with shocking thumbnails. I myself got scared by just seeing your thumbnails. Show us culture not mediocrity.

Really?? I use to love watching most of your videos but this was a pure joke. There are abandoned hotels along the beach in every country, Turkey had hundreds of them which I thought you being experts on Turkey would know this.
Greece Spain Italy Germany yes Germany Croatia etc etc. I have videos of these places but the country with the most abandoned coastal hotels is….. wait for it …… the UK 🤦‍♂️
Let’s not forget why Tunisia fell by the way side that you failed to mention in your “being honest and telling all” speech…. What killed off Tunisia tourism was the mass shooting of holiday makers on the beach while they were sat relaxing and the corruption in the country that allowed it to happen, a friends sister was one of the first to be shot that day.
I’m sorry but this video is really really silly, why is this the first country you’ve visited out of all the countries you’ve been to and only just seen an abandoned hotel. You picked the one country where it’s not a surprise that there is abandoned hotels.

Hey Omar, I don't know if you watched the full video because we showed the current hotel thriving, beautiful murals of djerbahood, complimented the house style and design. And in our other videos from Tunisia we promoted many beautiful places. The reason for showing the abandoned hotel is for a positive reason to promote how much Tunisia needs tourism to return. It was all with good intention and I hope if you watch it back you will see this :)
