I was an atheist since I was 13. My mom would always tell me I needed to get God back in my life, but I dismissed it, and I would make fun of Christians. My mom prayed for me all the time, and I began to believe in God at 28, and even believed the gospel, but I stayed in my sin for a few more years, and I gave my heart to Christ two days ago!
With how terrible and useless of a sinner I was, if Christ can get ahold of me, then Abraham will be a piece of cake. Let's keep praying for him and the Piper family.

This video just proves Abraham Piper's point. Abraham is simply being honest about his perspective. Doesn't the Bible promote honesty? Also, stop playing the victim that he is mocking your faith. From his perspective, he is being vilified by his father and community simply for not agreeing with their religion anymore. Y'all need to grow up and act like real people. You aren't better than anyone.

@@Cheesesteakfreak Not sure what you believe in, but nothing wrong here. Salvation is of the Lord through Justification, Sanctification and Glorification. People will one day leave their family to form their own. They have to make their own decision, but it'll still painful to the family. That's why people pray for them. Mocking is a term to twist a truth. I didn't say THE truth, but this truth has already established its meaning and foundation through people of young, old, men, women and different generations. Abraham could just say he found something else more enlightening, but he didn't.

The commenter above is simply pointing out the sad reality here: a strained relationship between a father and his son.
Mocking is an indication of bitterness, regardless of whoever it is directed towards, it is wrong. Mocking is also an invitation of strife and further quarrel. Blame, bitterness, and hate are foolish things that inevitably leads towards division (2 Timothy 2:23, Titus 3:9-11, 1 John 4:20-21). In such an unfortunate situation, pointing fingers is meaningless. The Bible instructs Christians to pray for healing on both sides as it is written in James 5:16.

Better hope that John Piper himself gets saved. John Piper is a false prophet who denies faith alone salvation and teaches a gospel of final salvation secured by holiness and good works.
Abraham was simply unfortunate to have grown up in a home led by a father who teaches false religion.

    To Pastor John:
I too was like your son. But God encountered me in my sin. The Holy Spirit revealed to me who Jesus is. It happened not in church but while I was at the beach getting high and drunk, fornicating etc. But God just showered me with His love and i just knew by then I was Born Again. So the God who is able to do that to me can do the same for your son. Do not worry. Prayed to the Father to draw your son close to His Son. I hope this reaches you. God Bless you!

I am one of three that grew up in a Christian household and we all walked away from the church as adults. I have since in the past couple years come back as a born again Christian. My parents ask me and themselves what happened, what went wrong? There was no discipleship. They assumed we were getting what we needed from church, the childrens ministry was assuming we were getting the spiritual fuel we needed from home, and were instead catering messages to the "lost". Anyone who believes their children are saved because they go to church and "said a prayer" is sending their kids to hell for lack of knowledge! You must be BORN AGAIN. How can a child learn to be a born again adult if they have not been discipled? What they are left with is Christian morals and Christian-like behavior with a (false) reassurance of salvation. That is very different than the true gospel!!!!

You must let children live thier lives, God will take care of thier future. let me explain....I grew up in similar circumstances to you. I remember as a kid that we used to listen to Mrs G tapes and read her books...all Bible based but with such horrible stories such as those found in the Old Testament? not good, not good at all. I despised church and knew there was no 'power' in any of it. My parents faith got wrecked in the process of life. It was a miracle in itself that I heard the Gospel, in my early 20's, and what a shit storm that created...family and community didnt like my new faith. It was an incredibly deep time, but one I would go through again if I could. Let your kids be, I have seen some very miserable children, controlled by fanatical parents...its great to see the zeal, but when such faith is forced down thier necks...trouble will ensue. Always remember, if God built all the world and universe and so on...then Hes big enough to take care of all things.

You've made some good points. I think it's important to let kids keep their "fire" and unique spirit. What I see happening sometimes, and experienced myself, was a breaking down of self-esteem and confidence in hopes the child will submit to God and the Law which left me spiritually empty, insecure, rebellious, and confused. I think the biblical approach would be training up your kids to understand the word with confidence and pride, understanding the context of God's word ect. If it's BIBICAL there should be no resentment or confusion. I believe the approach my parents and church took is not bibical.

I finally watched Abraham Piper's Tik Tok, 4 of them, anyway. They weren't what I had heard. The first one I saw denigrated the authority of...the Bible?? No, James Dobson! I thought, hey, James Dobson is not the Bible, guys! He has even been heard to say (on Focus) that if the Bible says it's good for a man not to marry, and he, Dobson says otherwise, believe him, Dobson, because if you don't get married, you are missing it all: forget what God says in the Bible. In that way, and others, Dobson undermined the authority of the Bible for decades, but of course, never the authority of the conservative political movement. And nobody (next to) had a problem with him doing so. The Bible have a problem with divination and non-God-assisted time travel? No problem: just send your kids on a time travel trip to the Bible, where they become characters, and as sure as the Pavlovian Tinkerbell "ding", they'll be nice and cozy with "the Bible", enough to let it know it's place, and will have learned the more important conservative political principles, ideas which _really_ matter! You can learn to keep your kids "on your team," oozing lukewarm cup of cocoa-ness, and Hallmark-ness, too. "Ding!"
No, I don't have a problem with him questioning _Focus on the Family_ at all. That is not all he questions, and I hated hearing him question the inerrancy of the Bible, and I hate to hear all this corrupt mess called "evangelical," since that name is supposed to mean gospel-oriented, born again Christianity, not the corruption of the past few decades, not that there wasn't corruption and false teaching before. I found Abraham Piper very likeable, and I agreed with a lot that he said. But he does appear to be in unbelief, so that is sad, but true of so many who are not saved, but subject to becoming saved. (It might do well to throw off the shackles of Paul Washer, and remember that the Bible speaks of "millions in the valley of decision”, and that God doesn't seem to have a problem with the validity of those decisions He asks us to make.) We can pray for people more, as if it made a difference, which Jesus said it does, although the people we pray for are ultimately responsible for their decisions.

Apparently Abraham was one of the children Piper said he'd go into their room at night, and just watch them sleep, looking so sweet, and he said he loved them so much, then. But, he said, he had to "honestly" reckon with the "fact" that his boys might turn out to be some _whom God did not want to be saved._ This awful, supposed possibility, played heavily on the emotions of the crowd, who moaned audibly. I guess it likely that it played on his children's emotions, too.
But this is what he could have done, instead: simply believe God's word, instead of the reasoning of Calvin and Augustine. After all, isn't it true, that whenever we choose the philosophical reasoning of theologians, *_over_* the inspired, revealed word of God, the conclusion is going to be error, and probably a worse stumbling block than it seems at the moment? The devil wouldn't manipulate us to call the words of man the truth, and the word of God a lie, negligible, laughable, of little importance, weak, puny and evil, if he did not have something to gain for his kingdom, and his project of destroying souls, keeping people blind, etc. Anyway, what the could have believed is what Jesus the Son of God said: Jesus, the ultimate authority on the heart of God in salvation, then he would not have had that heartbreaking (but false) dilemma to wrestle with, and neither would he or anyone else have to wrestle with this false, unloving god, if we just believe the true God's eternal word:
      Matthew 18:14
*Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.*
That's Jesus who said that, and He did not say it because He "hated sovereignty", or wanted to advance "humanism" or "emotionalism" over God's sovereign will. In reality, He is not one bit in disagreement with the Father, and yet he said that it was "not the will of the Father that one of these little ones perish". Who is telling the truth: Augustine, Calvin, Piper and Wilson, or Jesus?

God will lead people out of false teaching if the want to find Him, but Calvinism so misrepresents God, who'd want to actually know that god? I have four children raised in the church with Christian parents. None walk with the Lord. The father after 26 years of marriage divorced me to remarry another woman he met on a dating site, while married to me. He introduced the woman to three of our kids when he was still my husband. The youngest never met her because he would have exposed his father about dating while married to his mother. He divorced me in court telling the judge I was holding him hostage in a marriage. Well, imagine how that’s impacted our children. They want nothing to do with the Lord. BUT, I’m TRUSTING the Lord. Trusting Him that the seed that was planted the Lord can water it and draw them to Him! I serve a greater God who raises the dead! He created the universe. I did the best I could raising my kids. I’ve asked them to forgive me for my shortcomings. I trust God has it all in control. This is a great message.

Once I left home for high school and college, I lived as a hypocrite because I didn't leave the church since my older brothers were there, I just lived the remaining days of the week away from God. Although I felt so much shame and guilt toward God and my family, because my parents did everything right.in bringing me up as christian parent should, I felt trapped in immorality. It took a long time, but I came back and confessed to the Lord. This happens a lot to the children of pastors. What I've come to realize is that we are warn against so many things, that the first time we feel a little freedom we decide to experiment and unfortunately some never come back. I would remind any parent of the story of Manasseh. Manasseh's father was the Hezakia the greatest King that Judah (and Israel) had ever known, and yet his son Manasseh was the most wicked King Israel had ever had. Manasseh did such evil in the eyes of the Lord that he made Israel more evil than the surrounding nations. He sacrificed children to Moloch, placed idols in the temple of God, shed tons of innocent blood, including God's prophet Isaiah, he destroyed all of the ancient scrolls containing Gods Word he could find, and committed other atrocities. Surely of anyone God would look on this man in contempt, hatred, and resent him. Yet we see that when Manasseh is carried away by Assyria and is in great distress, Manasseh cries out to God and the Lord hears his prayers, forgives him, and returns him home. And then it says "Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God." 2 Chronicles 33:11-13. This text shows that even the most vial man who aims his sin directly against God is not beyond Gods forgiveness if he truly repents and cries out for salvation. Hezakia was a God fearing man, with a God rebelling son and yet his son came to know God in the end. No one is beyond God's saving, and no ones children is ever beyond redemption.

I wasn't looking for this but it came up right after a video I'd been watching about a completely different subject but did I ever need to hear it! I'm so grateful that the Lord put this in front of me today. I've been so worried about my nieces' salvation even though they're small, I'm always on my brother to live right and talk right in front of them so that they will know the Lord before the world tries to devour them whole. This settles my heart. I will continue to pray over them but will give them to God.

I walked away as a young adult. Sometimes we just need to learn things the hard way.
      My advice FWIW:
Admit any responsibility for shortcomings, apologize. Also ask God’s forgiveness and know that you are forgiven - don’t allow the enemy to beat up you over it! God wants to bless you and use you to bless others every day and he can’t do that if you’re stuck in the past.
Tell them you love them no matter what.
Keep the door of relationship open, but don’t beg. That lowers their respect for you and causes guilt, which makes them want to avoid you.
      Keep praying for them.
      ❤️

As a parent, there is nothing more terrifying to me than the thought of my children walking away from the Lord. It almost makes me want to stop having any more children because I have so much trouble trusting the Lord with their eternities. I have no power over the Sovereign election of God. I struggle immensely trying to understand this area. It is, at times, utterly crippling to my faith.

If in your mind, their eternal life is so important, why risk them not going to Heaven if you have that ability? You're risking your children being condemned by your god to an eternity of hell. With your theology, would this not be more merciful? You would be automatically sending your children to an eternity of being with God. I'm not trying to be facetious, but would this not make sense? If Christians truly believed what they claim to believe, this would make sense.

I see the point you are making, but you can't use this argument to condone murder. That's very twisted thinking. Murder, especially against something as innocent as a child, cannot be justified. But as I'm not very good at debating, I'll direct you to this exact question as answered by the same pastor of this video. ruclips.net/video/tH5nt_NzR9Y/видео.html

But I do agree that I struggle with the idea of purposefully having a child, if there is not guarantee of heaven. As you said, why risk it? So, should Christians just adopt children already born and raise them in the Word of God in hopes that they will receive the gospel. Something they might not even hear about in another home? I'm not sure. I feel that purposefully not having children because you don't trust God isn't having very much faith in his ultimate goodness, is it? As I said, it's a struggle for me too!

@@MikeHammer1 There are a lot of factors that could lead to divorce, and indeed, it's sad how the rate has increased among evangelical pastors in recent years. It's not easy to keep a family and be in ministry at the same time. I know of a pastor who was also divorced, and it has lead him to a closer walk with God. He found a purpose partner years later, and the new wife and him are both actively serving in ministry for a decade now. I think pastors need more prayers from the congregation rather than them doing all the praying for their flock. Praying for Ptr John's family to be restored. It's sad to see the enemy doing the divide and conquer strategy on his family.

We yearn for our children and want them desperately to know and love the Lord, doing our best to bring them up in godly ways and modelling the gospel to them sacrificially. We all make mistakes and when we confess our sins the Lord graciously forgives us.
    Acts 13:48
And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed
We don’t know who is and who isn’t or why the Lord chooses some and not others. This includes our family. I am so humbled by this.
That takes the pressure off us (as if we could save anyone, it’s the Holy Spirit who melts hard hearts).
Let’s not be discouraged but continue in prayer and let’s pray for Abraham, that he would know the living God. What joy this would bring to Pastor John and Noel.

Too scared to pray openly and man up. It's not an excuse, but my relationship with my Dad really messed with me and affects everything I do and all that I am. Been a Christian for over 30 years and yet, sit here typing this knowing that I am a failure. I think of my Dad and where he might be now -- and it makes me hate myself. What if I had just spoken openly and truthfully; what if I had told him (once again) who I believe in? And my children --- what if they don't trust Christ? The pain is unbearable. :(

Repent and ask the Lord for strength through the power of His Holy Spirit. He is so faithful. The burden is heavy, but in Jesus, you can find rest (Matthew 11:28-29). He's able to heal you from your abuse (Isaiah 53:5), and strengthen you in times of fear (2 Tim 1:7). Strain forward from your past mistakes and keep trusting in God.

Gods grace is new every morning. Don't forget, God does not reject a broken heart and contrite spirit. He is close to you and He is waiting for you to just surrender. Ask for forgiveness, for failing, for giving in to fear, for being passive, forgive yourself. Do not let the past allow to determine your future. Your past mistakes have been done, so what, let go of it, you can have a new start with God right now. Was not Manasse a bad and evil king? Yet in his last days he returned to God and started cleaning up his kingdom. Do not underestimate Gods power, He can still do more than you could ever ask or imagine. We are saved by grace, not by our works. We are saved by faith not trough a perfect life.
The enemy will accuse you, for he is the accuser but he is also a liar. There is forgiveness for you and God does not just forgive, he forgets, he removes your guilt as far as the east is from the west. God will cause you to will and to act according to His word. He will equip you for every good work. Be blessed, mighty man of God!

Think again of Gods chosen, think of Paul, and his life before Christ, think of his actions, how could he ever forgive himself? Your right, he nor you nor me deserve Christ, but that’s not the point, God tells us this throughout the whole bible, He shows us through Christ, he is what makes us deserving, he is what redeems us, we are horrible, but Jesus is so great, So Loving, we are saved, forgiven, and loved because of him, keep working, work for no man but work for God, as hard as you can, just as Paul did, through the strength of Christ.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:3-7, NASB)
It isn't up to us to save anyone. It's in God's hands. Errors from our side didn't decide anyone's fate ultimately. Trust that God is in control. Those who belong to Jesus gave up the right to evaluate themselves. Don't call yourself a failure. If we are hidden in Christ we are a new creation and God looks on us with favor because we are in his son. Warning: hating yourself is self centered sin like pride. How could Jesus forgive you but you don't forgive yourself? That is holding your standards higher than God's justice. Respond to his kindness.

I feel like I need to add to Pastor John's advice. The writer doesn't just feel sad but depressed. So I wonder about that. Feeling "so depressed" about unsaved children would make me ask myself "am I parenting for God first; or am I putting my children before God or my ego, or need to control before God? Am I depressed because my parenting might be looking bad and so I'm angry because I look incompetent- is it my pride? Could I be depressed because I don't have control over my children and I'm secretly mad at God because I'm not getting my way? Do we trust that God knows best? In Ephesians when we're given instructions on family relations, I understand these to mean commandments. We submit as wives for example because we're obeying and adoring God 1st, regardless of how believing or loving the husband is. Same with being a boss, or a parent. God looks at how we please him in our role, not at the choices of the child, the employee or the husband. It's God's job to judge us all and our worth should be in God's judgement of our hearts, not how much praise from other people we receive by how great our children turned out. Did you raise your children in the Lord when they were young? God knows you did your best and just as he respects your freedom, he also values and respects your child's. Their path also needs to be unique and different from yours. He knows what they need. Maybe God will give them hardship. Maybe they'll repent on their death bed long after you're gone. Your adult child is ultimately God's responsibility, not yours. I like Jesus' attitude towards earthly families. " Who are my brothers, my sisters and my mother? They are those who hear and obey God's word. " He put his relationship with God 1st and had a detachment with the earthly family. Of course he loved his unbelieving family, he arranged for his mother's care for example but eventually, at least two of his siblings became believers and even Church leaders! How things changed! Trust God. Keep praying to God that he will work in his way and time with the people in your life and cherish God and his peace and let him love you and give you what you need.

Pastor Piper has admitted that he probably didn't give the attention he needed to his son in favor of the greater church ministry he was leading. I've unfortunately seen it happen numerous times with legitimate pastors like Piper and with the phonies I've encountered that were more concerned with their own pomposity and building the biggest congregation for their own glorification 😞 It has actually scared me to think about being a pastor after seeing this happen to the child of a legitimate man of God like Piper :(

More than that, people on their own life path learning, growing, and changing in Christ. I have done my best to disciple and raise my children for Christ with the limited tools I had as young Christian. I became a mom at 16 and didn’t come to accept Christ until I was 23. Even then it was a long road of learning, trying, failing, and learning again. There was so much I didn’t know back then. It really made me sad to read some of these comments. Upon seeing the title of this episode, I thought JP was going to speak of his personal journey, of his unbelieving children, and offer some self-reflection, but there was none. I do appreciate the advice he gave to parents who are be asking this question, which was biblically sound, although I'm not able to reconcile his theistic determinism with his advice. Presented in tandem, they are wholly incongruous. But, what he instructs here, separately, is great.

God never promised to save anyone’s children. Proverbs is a principle not a promise. There is no incongruity; salvation is always of the Lord. We are called as parents to obey and teach our children. But ultimately, each of our children are responsible to God for their own sin. “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” This is a hard saying, but “who are you, O man, who answers back to God?”

People can have happy moments without believing in God. That is not the part Christians should grieve about.
Christians aim to have as many people into heaven as possible. They believe heaven is perfect and only perfect people can enter heaven. That means nobady can enter heaven. God made it possible for non perfect people (everyone) to enter heaven by letting Jesus pay for all our sins. Thats why Christians hope everyone believe in Jesus.

As far as i know. The Gospel says. God loves us. Even with the mistakes we make. But God is holy and heaven is a perfect place. A perfect heaven cant accept non perfect things to enter. (I think we would be destroyed by the cleansing bright lights that heaven is showing if we would stand before the heaven gate.)
We all make mistakes and do wrong. 1 mistake is enough to make us not good enough to enter heaven cause its a perfect place.

We can try to do good things and thats good (God loves it when we do good) but remember. The bad things we have done cant be erased from history. (that means we can try as hard as possible but we will never be good enough.
a Christian should know that and never boast cause they should know they are far from perfect in Gods eyes)
in other religions, their God forgives us when we ask for forgiveness. But ask yourself. When someone steals something or tells a lie and then helps an old granny cross the road. A just judge will have to punish us for one thing we did wrong. It would not matter if we do good things after that. If God would let that slide it means God is not holy and perfect cause God would than accept bad things.
God loves us but cant accept bad things into heaven.
The payment for our sins should be death (our life)
Now the question comes how the heck can we enter into a heaven perfect heaven when we are not perfect? And there Jesus comes into the picture.

There is coming a day when this earth will be burnt up and cleansed of wicknedness and apostasy.
If it was about morals, then Jesus would not have needed to come at all. You could just be good and that's it.

Children are honest. Teen May start to grapple amd we need to be real and answer their questions and don’t fake it. If we don’t know something, say that and we’ll find out together. We sometimes just don’t create safe spaces to ask questions, they get their heads chewed off when they do in our frustration if we don’t have the answer for something the world had now presented. The world has an answer to teens questions albeit worldly, but they answer. We sometimes don’t at all, and the enemy takes home
Court advantage when we do that.
Also the Bible says to test every spirit, Every spirit. We will know them by their fruits. May be not just all their doing in life, we look at that as producing fruit, but the Bible is a book of Spiritual laws, for spiritual eyes and for ppl born of the spirit. The words are spirit and thus beyond nature or the natural. Fruit maybe talking about the fruits of the spirit. Do they have it? Love, joy peace patience kindness goodness gentleness self control. 1. Pray about it- God will reveal it. 2. Trust the Lord with them.
They too have a path. We have understanding that the enemy is after your children as young as in the womb. If they can’t be killed they will be snatched, devoured, or destroyed. We must train up a bit better in the spirit. Well versed in Gods laws. The same ones the adversary will use to discredit us before God, and which if unrepentant use as open in our defenses against him. It’s all there in Gods word. Just need to put it together, work and at the end of the day- rest in Him knowing as parents, we did our best to raise them as they should go, but they too have trials, tests and a walk they must walk especially if they count the cost of following Christ. It’s all still worth it. But hey, the enemy will not hold up becuase your child is under age and not ready by our standards to deal with his attacks. Hope that helps. I dove in deeply on this, but if you have spiritual understanding then you know what I’m saying. If not pray about what I’m saying. The Lord will give you the scriptures. We need not fear Satan, but he is relentless and he will not stop coming after the children of God especially to spite God. Isaiah7, matt 7, Romans 10
