I wanted to take my young family on adventures when we are all sitting in doors ,wanting to connect and also distance ourselves from the technology. Like most we are not a millionaire family, but I found this video reassuring as it's nice to know that I am learning a game that millionaires will chose to play in their spare time, of all the things they could be doing and they chose to play D&D ,that really says something.
Most people would consider themselves having ‘made it’ in Hollywood by doing x, y, or z.... I would consider being a made man if I was invited to this game.
Nevermind playing a giant barbarian in a D&D campaign, Big Show is a giant in real life. I could totally see him in war paint and wielding an axe at a ren faire.

It does my heart good to know as my game time winds down that the game will still go on with the same enthusiasm all of us old timers had from the start.
“It’s my wife’s bird, not mine!” That’s where the Big Show draws the line. He openly admits to being a hardcore DND nerd but birds? Not a chance, jack!
We had some epic campaigns in HS. At one time had so many players we had to split into two groups. The DM bless his soul ran one group Friday night and the other Saturday night. Somehow one group started turning darker and eviler. The two groups at the end before the majority moved to different places (Sucks being a military brat) had an epic final battle as the DM's best friend stopped playing and help co DM. Man those were the days. The characters all started off as friends but split and became enemies. Man, I miss those days
Whether you have all the minis and massive miniatures or it is just dice with printed character sheets and a shared set of books. D&D is still a total and complete blast.
This is dope to see celebrities playing DnD. I was the only person in my hometown (that I knew of) that wanted to play, so I forced my friends 😅 Now they love it and one of them wants to DM next
When I was a sophomore in high school in Tennessee I got sent to the school counselor because I brought an RPG related book (GURPS Magic) to my creative writing class. The same teacher ended up marrying a student in that class that I played D&D with...I need a t-shirt that says "I survived the bible belt during the satanic panic".
This brought back memories, Tennessee in the 80s, I was obsessed with DnD, my step mom saw a 700 Club episode where they talked about how satanic DnD was. She got super scared and talked to me.... 😅

Joe - we met briefly outside of a Pittsburgh hotel years ago and we chatted for a few minutes. I gave you massive props for all of this! Keep it up! Good work - and I’m always ready to join the group! Haha
“Dan, Dave... no... I know you guys want to end the game early, but you can’t do that... don’t you even remember the premise or the rules of the game?” “What?”
"You approach the final chamber gripping your weapons in anticipation of the final encount-" "Oops. We gotta go." "What? This is the last part of our year long campaign." "Yeah, we know. But a buddy of mine is running a Star Wars game and we promised to be there."

From this guy who was crucified by his parents for wanting to play D&D when he was a kid, and still loves the game thirty years later, I have just one word: beautiful.
I know what this is like. I play with a small group, but coordinating everyone's schedules to have a game day can be daunting. We just have regular jobs. For these guys to play on a regular is amazing. I bet it's also just a really good time.
Now I'm imagining Tom Morello playing a gig and while playing guitar in front of thousands of people; he's just thinking "Maybe my D&D guy needs more hit points". lol
D&D has been my mental de-stress for years. I started playing in 1979 with AD&D and am still playing & DMing today. Our group isn't as highly recognizable as this one & we're still doing flat maps and terrain with different tokens representing character placement, but we have fun and enjoy ourselves - that's what matters.
Love it, I miss playing DnD and other RPGs. I never played the board game version, we just had to picture it all in our heads (there was no dungeon or man cave to go and play in). My friends and I would always just play in our parent's living rooms or our small places. To this day I still think about ideas for missions and playing again.

Now, imagine the room is dark as the players enter the game room, except for a small reading light at each seat, with just enough light so they can see their character, dice, and flagon of ale, but the dungeon in the center of the table is dark and unknown. As they progress, small, dim LEDs light up sections of the table showing where they are in the environment, but not what lurks beyond. And maybe a sound effects sampler behind the DM's shield, with speakers under the table, to let players hear the environment.
Sounds amazing. Fun to imagine! Where money is no object. Only the experience.

This may blow yout mind, but I had to wait 17+ years to see ANY woman playing D&D. And no, that didn't give me some kind of smug self-satisfaction. It just sucked. We would have loved to have female players. These things change slowly. There are reasons for some of those stereotypes (even though that's apparently not what OP meant).

I found this video as I am learning to DM for my young family, I am the father and I am currently chewing through the DM 5e guide and I was looking for tutorials and examples of play.
Great job Joe. I'd give almost anything to see Big Show play a Halfling.

He’s on the Jox machina one shot. I think he’s a half giant.
