Yes, agreed... I am 68, born in 1956... Can recall these scenes, as if it was yesterday... Piccadilly Circus was always busy ( Used to call in the Boots the chemist shop every time )... Haven't been into central London since 1999...
Them were the golden years of 70s and 80s, we loved going to the central London, especially during the Christmas time where the big stores have their beautiful heart warming Christmas Display. It was so nice and peaceful and happier, people were happy, loving. The atmosphere was very uplifting and Enchanting. Now, it's all rotten, miserable. It's been over Twenty Two years since we last went to Marble Arch and Bond Street to my sister who came from America. Even they were surprised and couldn't believe it, when we told them that we haven't been here for over twenty two years,
London was a great English city back in the 80s and was as safe to walk the streets late at night or early in the morning. I miss the London we once had, when it was our own city, the capital of England. The greatest city in the world.
100% correct ... successive weak governments over many decades have opened the flood gates to all ... recipe for disaster ... the U.K. as a whole has lost its national pride and identity.
@@Bella-fz9fy Hahaa, there's a Mark 3 Granada at 00:29 and they were '85 - '94 and at 3:28 there's a Nissan Bluebird model '86 - '90.. so the later part of the '80's for sure.
@TT_1221 Well,I bow to your superior car knowledge, but the hobble skirt and various fashions looked a bit earlier because I remember hideous patterns and bagginess took over in 86/87!I think, maybe could have been 86/87😄
@@Ritff666l-e9e Actually,I looked again, and I think you are both right,it’s amazing how your brain can see the same thing differently,I noticed different people and they did look later,it was two women’s fashion that put me off(hobble skirt etc)I’m blaming them😂
That brought back memories as I got my first job in Covent Garden in 1984 - My first car was a Volkswagen Golf Mark1 - I had a Filofax for keeping all my notes - I was a proper little Yuppie - Brought my first home in 1989 - You could still have a good night out for a tenner in those days in the mid 80s...
Exactly. I visited yesterday and had a great time. The Lights at HAYS Galleria and Covent Garden are wonderful, the atmosphere still magic. White English left but I still live there.
Ah yes, the good old days when London was a British city, with British values. People had respect for each other back then. No migrant gangs, no (or very few) halal butchers/restaurants, Mosques, pro islamic/anti western marches or hooded thieves on electric bikes, and a police force that kept control.
I'm from America and I visited London in 1982. I remember riding in the big spacious black Taxis and shopping in Piccadilly Square. I also remember not seeing many Black people I'm sure they were somewhere I just didn't see them. Times have changed with the influx of immigration. It appears that colonization has reached your shores? Chickens coming home to roost per se.
Sadly true ... soon English people will be in a minority ... governments are to scared to be heard saying anything against any foreign country or group or even individual ... being an island it should have been easy to keep our country safe and free.
London is completely ruined by mass migration, we always used to dress up when we went to the capital, now we just look out of place and hardly ever go now …so sad.
It is very amusing to read your sad little tantrums. London is the best city of the world right now, back then it was a boring af place. ❤ London in 2024
London still is a great city ,food is so much better now due to immigration and let’s move forward and not backward whilst you enjoy this technology you are using now ,you can’t pick and choose bits from different generations or go back to the days when we all looked the same and the streets were dirty and cholera was rife
What a fabulous time to be young. . 21 in 1980. . It was so much better than it is now . ❤

same for me from the 90s, now it’s all one ways, etc. Sadiq Khan has ruined this beautiful city.

This is the London I knew! Wonderful, accessible and safe. And fun! British people lived on London. Wouldn't go near the place, now.
Back when us Brits loved London. Too scared to go there now.
Something’s gone very wrong since.
I agre. I would say there are a number of factors that have contributed in the creation of our current calamity, one of them is the internet.

That can't be London, its full of English people.
Used to go up London nearly every weekend. Tower Records in the early 90’s Spent far too much money on 💿 Cd’s . They were Frickin expensive back then.
yeh price is still pretty much the same now as it was in the 80s
Why oh why did I sell all my vinyl for CDs ???
Same here
Loved tower records shame it shut years ago
Should have gone over to Berwick St in Soho. Much better prices and selection.
Heartbreaking. The UK 🇬🇧 Country and Citizens betrayal of both Governments.

I went to school near Parliament in the 80s. Westminster City School just off Victoria Street!
When life here was relatively normal stable and civilised.
From the models of cars I think 1988 or 1989..

I’m sure someone is likely to disagree but comparing times how did we screw this up so badly?
50 years of equally ' wonderful ' governments....
Lots of english people saying that they are too scared to visit London now. Why not all go, in droves and claim it back?
