Love your channel! My problem is I'm cheap and have two kids that take all my money so I'm regulated to lenses under $300.. Maybe I'll rent this one to try it out or I'll take an extra job. lol Thanks so much! Do you ever adapt any vintage glass? If so any recommendations? I have tons of vintage glass because of the price. I have become quite good at manually focusing.
Sonny CrackBeats Thanks so much! Two kids is = to two mortgages so I get it. I weep a silent tear every month we pay for Roman’s daycare. If you want the Leica, hunt on EBay and use Esnipe which is like magic, seriously. I use it all the time. You can also find the Olympus used for around $300. Since you are skilled with manual focusing and dig that vintage look, a lens you gotta get is the Speedmaster 25mm f/0.95. Yeah f/0.95, small and here’s the best part - $359.00 NEW. amzn.to/2NKuNRN Fun vintage glass IMO are any Schneider C-mount glass. They’ll be cheep, probably full of fungus but tons of fun. Also, the Minolta 40mm which is the same exact lens as the Leica 40. 💥!!
@@GiulioSciorio Thanks so much!! Thanks for those recommendations.. I had no idea about the Minolta 40mm.. I actually came across one of those not to long ago but figured since I already had the 50 1.4, I didn't "need" it.. I'll keep my eye out again! I'll also look into the Speedmaster. As far as AF, all I have now is the 45 1.8 (love) and Panasonic 25mm 1.7 (like it as well) and of course the kit lenses. I have too many vintage lenses to list here but I'll be hunting that Minolta 40! :) Keep doing videos when you get time!
Man I REALLY want that handgrip you have on your GM1! I just bought the GM1 a couple of weeks ago and they don't make those grips anymore and I've scoured the internet looking for one. Also just bought a new silver 15mm on ebay today to match with the camera. This was a great video.
Oh yeah man, good luck finding the OEM grip. Panasonic did not bring a lot into USA and mine was one of the original prototypes so it was rather special. Glad you dig the video!
I have just bought this lens but haven’t taken delivery yet. Your reference to the history of the lens and the Gm1 made me wonder (as an owner of a GH2) whether LUMIX intended to produce more 1.8x crop sensor cameras (rather than 2x) such that this lens was intended to be a full frame prime 27mm (or 28m essentially) equivalent. That might explain the otherwise atypical 30mm equivalent focal length? The GH5s is one of the only other 1.8x MFT cameras I’m aware of. I’d be interested in your thoughts!
When I worked with Panasonic there was no mention of 1.8x crop sensor cameras. I was opposed to full-frame for Lumix and recommended that they develop more cutting-edge sensors and use them within the M43 ecosystem. I still believe that would have been a better way to go.
Pana 15 f1.7 is legendary, similar color-quality (IQ) to Canon / Nikor but more open feel Shadows - not so murky. great for photo/video outdoors, perfect for small group photos (Wedding reception etc). Less distortion and lighter than most of the big-name cameras, hence used a lot for pro drones. stunning with flash .. I don't use it for portraits but yes for everything else.
Thank you for your excellent video. I have the G9 with the kit zoom 12-60 and I want to buy a prime lense Pana 15mm or Olympus 17mm. I prefer the focal 17mm but the pana is probably sharper. Can you see a difference in sharpness between the two ? Xavier, France, Vendée.
It’s super legit cause you’re getting the Leica color science for video and stills in a tiny package. If you were to build the ultimate micro system I’d say the GM1 Leica 15 and Olympus 12/2.0 would be at the top of my list.
@@davidvictory9764 yo I ended up using both lenses my freind. I PERSONALLY did not like the leica 15..wasnt enough character not much bokeh and idk it was just kinda plain to me I personally like the sigma much more but my favorite was the mitakon 17mm .95..fully manual I have a video of it on my channel . But between the 2 15 and 16 I would go 16 hands down
@@A1Bokeh yeah I know what you mean. That's what I was thinking. The pani just felt to plain and not motivational, and the sigma feels more professional like I am holding a 24 70 f2.8 g master. But I don't have any. I can't find the sigma where I am rn, but can find the panisonic. I think I will have to go with pani, hopefully it's not much different than the sigma. Thanks. I mainly wanna do gym videos so hopefully the f1.4 and 1.7 isn't much different
@@davidvictory9764 If I was you bro I would wait to get a hold of the 16. Can you order it from bh or adorama? I actually specifically did a gym video with it lol And one another video I just didnt like it at all. Dont get it and regret it lol
I can't believe I didn't talk more about the character which is a huge selling point IMO. I do go into some detail on the accompanying article for PhotoFocus which should be out soon. Overall though, it's warm and rich without looking oversharp and sterile like most modern digital lenses. If you look around on Ebay you can even find them in silver and the price is good too. Just make sure it comes with the lens hood but I would not worry if the rubber cap is missing. That thing pops off with ease. I'll be posting pics to my IG starting tomorrow.
the 15mm is NOT the smallest prime in the Lumix collection .outside the 2.5/14mm (now discontinued ) you have the 1.7/20mm which is smaller , cheaper and more interesting as a normal focal length
Henry Anthon lol I can see why that rough concrete would make someone squirm. In my years of experience, I learned to let go of keeping cameras bodies perfect. I am quite picky about keeping the lens and sensor clean however.

I think that this lens would be perfect with the GX9. A killer combo for street photography.
Ordered the lens together with my first mirrorless camera the GX9 ... can't wait!

sweet thanks dude!

mate what about the 20m 1.7?

Dude I can't decide between the 2 right now for the gh5
