Too, as previously mentioned, accompaniment seems written as a mere backdrop for the soloist, rather than possessing an equal (or near equal) voice.

It doesn't mean he wasn't a great musician. This would have been a novelty number in a concert of fairly traditional brass band repertoire. A bit of fun! Don't be so scathing.

Youngblood brass band is also amazing, but they have a much rougher sound, and know exactly how to manipulate the extended techniques to their preferences, and this reminds me of a high school pep band version of a song, not in terms of skill of players, but through the arrangement and cleanliness of sound.
This is actual not a Miraphone tuba, but a tuba designed by Peter Oberrauch KG, a Brass instrument manufactury from south-tirol. I don't understand how they came up with Miraphone....
The original one was made by Peter Oberrauch and Wolfgang Rabensteiner. The tuba you see in the video is another version that Wolfgang designed together with Miraphone ;)
