- Carlos Santana is a global music icon. The guitarist and his band first topped the charts with “Evil Ways” off their self-titled debut in 1969. Fifty years ago this weekend, Santana took the stage at Woodstock in Bethel, New York. At the time, he was an unknown musician. He won over the massive crowd with his guitar riffs and his band's percussion. This year, he's celebrating that historic performance and the 20th anniversary of his Grammy Award-winning album "Supernatural," which includes the popular song, "Maria Maria." Santana joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss his performance at the iconic festival and what we can learn from Woodstock today.

He's a total hippie, I love it!
eh , he’s a total believer in all the innate goodness we each have. That’s a philosophy I can subscribe to, hippie or not.
Well, he can afford it...
mexican power
exactly !!!!
_I’m still hallucinating_
- Carlos Santana
“There can be another Woodstock, we just need to love eachother and stop hurting eachother”, don’t cut Santana off right when he brought up school shootings
Carlos Santana is such a musical superstar
Hello Thanks for being a great fan over the years.. you send a text through my hangout Gmail. I promise to give a response back. I guess it's a little way of showing my fans appreciation.. I'm now available to meet and greet.

well, the CBS interview was a little better than the CNN one, but neither did true justice to Carlos.
I remember when they were the Santana Blues Band from Oakland, California. They used to do outdoor concerts in Berkeley for free.
you are one lucky hombre
Viva Carlos Santana! he is a super star! recently loved his concert in Austin Texas.
While Carlos was doing the Santana Blues Band my uncle was already playing Latin rock with Latin percussion with his band called the "Aliens" Because my uncle and Carlos were friends at the time my uncle would invite Carlos to check out his band which eventually Carlos stole my uncles sound and his percussionist Chepito!
@@ronaldtorres5758 much like comedians stealing each others material. Not your uncle though, he invented music... A-ha!
Holy F*ck, those Fillmore years you mean? sir. Probably from like 67 to 69 right? Awesome 😁 👍 😊 ✌️
I just picked up a lot of game from this man ... he understands how life is supposed to be and how they the world tries to form us into evil angry paranoid scared people to an extent when we can be all around more happier
Just listening to him talk puts me in a different frame of mind. Now I’m in a more positive mood and I’m going to have an all Woodstock day, I’m even going to use Woodstock in my stew.
so humble, always saying thank you for the rad questions they ask him cause his life is so rad. wow
"a little tipsy" obviously she has never taken LSD.
He sounds really cool! I'd love to be his friend.
God bless Carlos Santana
The man is spiritually beyond most people
Can you imagine when he and George get together again? I wanna be there.
HE IS AWESOME....WE WISH HIM THE BEST ALWAYS.....KEEP UP JAMMIN MY BROTHER.

"When you take something from one, it's stealing. When you take something from many, it's called research." Dope saying. I like it cuz i makes sense.
I love this interview because it shows what a spiritual what a deep person Carlos Santana is 💗🙏✌🤲and talking about something with such seriousness,, and you have the anchor people giggling and joking making innuendos not understanding the full concept of the message he's trying to express! These are the kind of people I love calling stupid suits!!!!😖
What innuendos?
Carlos Santana is that super cool and fun grand uncle everyone wished they had
Santana, super philosopher, great points/tips! Plus in good taste, breaking down to news networks, that what they make a killing with, "preaching bad news" is really not healthy to all.
He was just awesome then doing "Soul Sacrifice!" That just blew the crowd away. Also a dynamite drum solo by Mike Shrieve.
The best guitarist ever
Love you, Carlos, muy bien, hermano,
Hallucinogens do not make you “tipsy” !
He was trippy lol
Have met him - he's an awesome guy, and great band!
Carlos Santana spirituality is too over the top for those news casters to understand
You Nailed It Carlos. They do Need a Wood Stock.
Santana on Vinyl, what could be better.
I love Santana. And all the music that his band played. Rock on and keep being groovy. You keep being a hippie cool.
Yeah, Don't take Acid 💊before the show !!!! 😵💫 😆
Eres el mejor, fue un placer escucharte y verte en vivo!
He looks younger here than he did 22 years ago in the Supernatural era.
grande santana...historia viva..de una de las mejores épocas de la música!! bravo santana!!!
the best
he's got a sense of humor 😂
Very classic act from an icon.
Always says thank you for asking that
50 year anniversary and Santana is spending it talking to msm 'SQUARES'.. What would 'Sly' think? ..not the Stallone one!, The Family Stone one!!
RICHIE HAVENS TOO
well it's an interesting meeting to have different perspectives
You gotta love his hippie mentality..
They don't listen to him! He says such profound things and they come with the next question before he finishes his idea. Instead of interaction with his beautiful things he says, they just jump to the next question like schoolboys...
LONG LIVE the #legends
Carlos the man
feel the love
New ALBUM!! I want it!!
I used to bring my amp and guitar to keg parties in the '70s. One guy said "Santana!!
One of the best compliments i got then.
Carlos is still great.
Did people speak Spanish or Native American languages or English in Woodstock 1969 ?
Love his sound
How you my love this man
Growing up with Carlos Santana’s music
I saw him live back in the late 90s before supernatural hit.
Ruben Baeza how was that???
@@Beingtherain good concert, lots of dreadlocks.
Seems a lot of his philosophy is similar to that of Jimi Hendrix. They're right you know. Peace✌
*Living Musical Icon & A Humanitarian.* *He speaks Truth.*
What a lovely wise man x
Great Carlos…. Great Thx👏👏👏
Carlos Santana performed in Venezuela in 1972
Gotta' Love Santana and his spiritual musical insights, those CBS talking head squares should drop acid on live TV and then interview their guest long form style, Turn on, Tune in and Reject the war machine!!!
if they all drop acid together he'll probs interview them too!
Hopefully there's more of this interview somewhere so we can hear about his music rather than drug use during the 1960's. What a waste of his -and our- time having such a music legend from whom we can learn so much and just concentrating in one single issue. Issue which by the way hardly anybody cares about anymore having so many important matters at hand to which Carlos has been contributing to around the world. Music CBS, we wanna know about Santana's music and the things he does far beyond his music world. Please.
THANK YOU
MISTER CARLOS SANTANA

Somehow i dont think his message was understood by them.
In the world there were and are very good guitarists, call yourselves, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brian May, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Hendrix, etc, etc, etc, but from there they did not pass, in several years they will to listen to a recording and they are going to ask, what good guitarist? Who is he? - But when listening to an album by Carlos Santana, they will immediately identify him, because C. Santana belongs to the small group of musicians who have created an inimitable and unrepeatable style, Carlos Santana stood out above all of them and that is why he is recognized worldwide

carlos santana enjoys a world wide fame
other players are unknown outside the jurisdiction
only worshiped by a few guitar geeks, the public is not interested
music is art, the people of the world understand his greatness
Too bad they couldn't let the man speak longer. He is full of awesome wisdom and life knowledge. Plus he's a master of the guitar!! I could hear one or two notes and immediately know it's CARLOS!!
Mein geliebter Carlos,
Das Album "Supernatural" kenne ich noch nicht.
Ich MUSS es kennenlernen!
Es ist garantiert GROSS, wie alles, was ich von Dir kenne!

Hey 😁
Spero d avere l accredito..
Ham ma. Ti. Ta.
Supernatural - probably his worst album and the beginning of a period of dross. Coming back now. I'm a great fan but he doesn't improve with his pseudo intellectualising does he?
Weird dude. Lol. Great Guitar Player.
I lost my Carlos Santana shirt I got from Winslow,Az in the back of a Oklahoma City cop car when I ripped it off along with my shorts, because the officer left me in there handcuffed with no air and windows up.
I was already previously suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion...
So its gone forever.
Ended up being booked in in a paper suit.
Sorry to hear that. What did you get busted for?
Well, I was living behind a dumpster and that evening I was on my way to eat dinner at this place called Grace Mission and my moms house was in between so I stopped and went through the back door to get a glass of water...I sat and not even able to take one drink her roommate and his wife(who previously stolen my brothers tablet when I'd forgotten it) walked in and started attacking me...which they always do and then they call the police and I'm the bad guy...
My mom was away at work so they only got their story so before you know it I was being arrested for "assault",I didn't hit him and "burglary two"....
Thank God they dropped the assualt charge and down graded the burglary two to breaking and entering....
But,with that ishit being the way my family interacts and shows me love I jumped ship and starting my life in a new state making new friends.
I'm progressing better without the negative and violent behavior from those I'm supposed to rely on.
A. Dont do drugs.
B. Enter rehab early and frequently.
A. Praise God
B. Do Drugs
He s a very confused accultic practicing soul ...
When she says tipsy…cringe
