I was born in 94, and by the time I started going to short track races it seemed like every track had at least one truck division. Funny to think just a few years before there weren't any. I did love the old SCCA truck series though.
That pace car is a Suburban, I believe. And I was wondering about Internationals as well, or a couple of Plymouth variants. Either way, great mod, thanks so much for showcasing it, Jake! Happy New Year!
No Plymouth trucks in 1965, but Ford of Canada had the Mercury M-Series (a rebadged F-Series), plus the Jeep Gladiator (newly available with the AMC 327 V8 for '65) and the aforementioned International (which would have been the D-Series in '65).
This is probably the coolest thing ever created, a series of classic racing trucks way before someone had the idea of actually racing them IRL. A fair few cross-border raiders as well, and a van as a "pace car". Brilliant!
My dad actually raced a 64 Chevy in a local Farm Truck Division a few years ago, won 7 out of 11 main events for the 2022 season and the championship. Looks amazing seeing almost that exact truck model in NR2003! I'd love to see my dad's truck painted up for this mod, that would be incredible.
I love stuff that sits at the confluence of big-money motorsports R&D and the natural kinds of questions every gearhead has at some point. And that, to me, is what makes things like the idea to put trucks on circle tracks or the fast-rising MotoAmerica King of the Baggers series such fun: they are series that naturally arose from questions asked by people who OWNED the things! In much the same way the owners of American touring motorcycles might toy with the idea of a "knee-dragger bagger", circle track teams might take a look at the pickups in the infield and think long and hard about what'd happen at the top of 3rd gear out of turn 4. No marketing, just gearheads using insane vehicles to answer stupid questions. Love it. (Tangent: The insane size of most modern mid-size pickups probably precludes using them as a template for pavement racing, but Mavericks, Tacomas, and Colorados might just work for a more production-based pickup series to slot beneath the current silhouette Truck Series. More than that, I genuinely believe that the current craze for trucks, SUVS, and crossovers has put cross-country off-road racing - Baja 1000, Dakar, King of the Hammers - in about the strongest position of any discipline out there.)
Man this is really cool. I think it's time to dust off my copy of NR2003! I think the only thing they could possibly do to make it better would be if we had custom engine sounds that are appropriate to the engines those trucks would have, but that'd just be a cherry on top of the sundae at this point. Excellent mod
IIRC the turn 3 pit entry at North Wilkesboro wasn't a thing until 1995. Before then the pit road was only on the front stretch and it didnt even have a inside pit wall until sometime in the 80's or early 90's. Guessing it was on this version to accommodate a full field in NR2003.
I like how you mention that by tweaking the physics of a 2003 truck they're able to achieve good results, something that is rareley seen these days with modern sims and all their underlying physics engines...
ok, I was just making a carset to race in nr2003 and I thought of making a homage to you jake, and I was thinking in a name of a new axelson on the field, and here you are releasing a nr2003 video hahahaha by the way, is ronnie Axelson approved by you?
To be honest, I think I could see something like this using 80s trucks as a pseudo Goodwood festival, that could be held at NWB some time not conflicting with their other NASCAR obligations. Anyways cheers for the entertaining race!
This was different, but fun. I'm usually more into the road racng, and other series, but the older NASCAR stuff can be nice. I'd probably say 1992 marked about the end of the "classic" era in NASCAR. Speaking of the older stuff, is it possible to kind of emulate the 1st half of the 1979 World 600? Of course, I suspect a notable part of how/why that scrap was able to go on for so long like it did is because the guys weren't quite pushing the cars to their limits. That said, it seems they were pushing a bit too hard, as engines and things started to go not long past halfway, and then the 3-wide running 2 rows deep was over.
I feel like the current trucks should be the primary series. The whole idea of stock car racing was to make race cars out of the cars that regular joes drove around. I feel like today a lot more people drive pickups rather than mustangs and such
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YTthe problem is the same with ARCA these days. The put children in those cars, which is absolutely ridiculous. Back in the days those series had young people, yes. But they also had the ambitioned amateur racers who are between 30 and 60 years old. People with driving experience who wanted to have a clean race because they owned the equipment they drove. I really miss those days when NASCAR was great. The field fillers of the cup series where also absolutely amazing. Just racing for the heck of it. Back when repairing your car was allowed and you had the car in the garage for 2 hours but still went out to get some lap points. I wish we could back to those glorious times! Every real NASCAR fan wants that, but the organization is nothing but a bunch of Oligarchs with zero racing knowledge. They only do whatever they think is right because they are rich and always right.
The thickness of the sheet metal on the trucks would have allowed for a lot of rubbing without taking out the tires. 1950s trucks would also be fun to see, especially the trucks with step sides, but aerodynamics would not exist.
Love me some alternate history content! I wonder if DMR would ever consider doing a 1970s racing van mod, given how big vanning was during the decade. (They could watch some modern Japanese *dajiban* action for some inspiration/motivation)
I just got myself an external dvd-cd drive so i can reinstall my original copy of NR2003 on my Win 10 pc. Is it likely to work right away or will there be any tweaks I'll need to do? Any advice much appreciated
It's possible but braking will be extremely weak due to how the abs works. And without abs you'll just lock up every corner on keyboard So basically its possible but itll be very difficult, if you have a controller then def try to use that instead of a keyboard
iracing does, and the ai is quite good, but you need to pay a subscription as well as buying the content to race with it. if you're just running offline, nr2003 is certainly the best bang for buck, but i'd take iracing over it any day if i was already paying for it for online racing. especially once they drop the proper gen 4 car they're in the process of scanning!
New nr2003 mod in 2024??? Its truly a Christmas miracle
I'm horrible with time, but I think we also got the new modified mod this year too.
@@sagethevvitch we did about 8 years ago
@@Noskywyd no, the dmr modifieds came out late last year
@bondedwithpotatoes0076 damn already?
Theres multiple new mods every single year why is this surprising to you

If the SCCA had any brains they'd bring back the RaceTruck Challenge for the smaller pickups.

Totally rad. Shame there’s no International Harvester or Jeep Gladiator, but realistically they wouldn’t’ve been fast enough to keep up anyway.
So awesome. The 60s Chevy is my favorite truck of all time
Merry Christmas Jake thanks for this gift
Amazing looking mod. They have knocked it out the park
Holy cow how cool is that ! Im gonna have to check this out. Thanks for the heads up.
The game looks gorgeous nevertheless.

im into worldbuilding and thought about a 60s truck series for a tropical island state set in the 70's, really looks like i imagined it :3
I got my #26 Chevy painted up the other day and it's been fun at Talladega 1970s. I'm wondering what sound mod is used in this video?
No Internationals? Game looks really good though! I like how the dirt accumulates on the glass, would also be cool with some bugs.
