Absolutely love AMS2 and it's in the best place it's ever been right now, so I'm glad to see it finally getting tons of praise. One of my favorite things about AMS2 is that It drives really well with my xbox controller and has the best offline experience of any of the racing sims out there currently IMO. Trying to race with a controller on the other racing sims I've tried did was a frustrating experience. I'd love to have a wheel again one day, but a controller is my only option for what will likely be many, many years due to being poor.
Been watching your great videos on classic races for years, mostly your AC races on obscure modded tracks, loved your insights into the scene at the time. Had no idea you enjoyed new games. Which makes sense as no one does classic content better than Reiza. Looking forward to more of your races. Watching you makes me want to try harder at being better.
I just watched Rush-bilista 2, starring Jake Williams, on YT theater. I highly recommend the "flick", this time the Axelson saga take us to an Indy Cart drama with brake checks and all 😂🤟
Love this combo...The FUSA gen 2's are even better. The feeling of the tire scrubbing in these is so good, 1.6 has made AMS2 my fave sim atm, replacing AC and RF2.
Stumbled upon this video, like the way you done this, should make a lot of newbies very exited. I'm racing sims for 26 years already, love it. Build me a full motion platform (DIY SFX-100) a couple of years ago and I can tell you, well worth the trouble, it adds a major level to racing sims, without movement any sim now feels death. Greetings from Germany
With how much V1.6 has enhanced the offline experience, I'd love to see you do a 100% race in AMS2 on stream just to see how the experience is from your perspective! Great sim-racing content as always!
did they finally figure out the problem that their UI does not work with triple screens anymore? When they changed to the new GUI in spring of this year it stopped working..
I did it. I swear they did it with this update, fuckin finally. I never jumped on the hype train with the 604 guy, neither did i go down the ironic route with Gamer muscle, i feel this one is good enough to have some serious fun.
Yeah that phasing in and out with the other car fully opaque is always jarring, doubly so in VR. It’s the same in AC. Cars should be ghost-like whilst in their phasing periods.
It gets me every time! I always get an outer body experience in AC as well when the cars teleports to the pits after the race is complete. Glad I found the forced cool down lap option in CM!
I feel like if Champ Car had continued to exist past 2007 they would have raced here at some point. In it's final season Champ Car ran the fantastic Panoz DP01. Don Panoz also owned Road Atlanta. Interestingly in the 2000's Don Panoz also owned the other two tracks included in this update; Sebring and Mosport.
It’s not going to happen so long as the Indycars have a regular date at Barber, but I could see these cars racing on the modified final turn they built for motorcycles several years ago.
32:00 CART actively fought the development of spotters in their series for a long time, like to where teams started buying regular tickets for guys to sit in a high row at an oval and spot from there, because CART wouldn’t provide an actual place for them. That included some Penske guys on the roof at Michigan or Fontana or Nazareth (one of the tracks he owned) getting moved away from there by CART. I’m not sure when or if that changed, but on the IRL side of the split spotters became essential pretty quickly with the crazy pack racing that developed on the numerous 1.5 mile tracks.
Great video. I remember when the older Ferrari V10 cars were there for an all Ferrari car event they did a lap in 59 seconds and change. This track is just nuts in person, no game or in car video can do the elevation changes justice. Been going every year for Petit since 2011.
AAA, USAC, CART, or IRL - it does not matter. North American open-wheel racing, or Indycar, has always been one of the best for me. The 80s and 90s, in particular, showed us what racing truly is, and I personally think it cannot be beaten!!!
Here I go with multiple comments again… 37:44 it was Toronto ‘89 and the dark red Alfa powered March of Roberto Guerrero that was sitting off to the side of the Lake Shore straight for quite a few laps when Mario came around battling another car and blasted it into another dimension. In 1990 that would have been in MGD livery.
automobilista on the steam deck is just amazing... i haven't had this much open wheel racing fun on a portable device since monaco gp on the sega nomad.
Current IndyCars are about on par with the diesel LMP1s from about 15 years ago, and those visited Road Atlanta pretty regularly. Hell, even the DPis weren't too far behind an IR-18. It's worth taking a look at all the problem areas for crash safety (the final turn chief among them), but it's also worth a shot, right? Run a test, be tentative, and evaluate. Oh yeah, wait, Penske would rather have a street track in Fort Worth.
I think its done because in some cars if you use the hide steering wheel it also removes the dash that shows the speed and revs. So you just got a big empty hole in front of you
I can't believe they took the AI breaking and acceleration skill sliders out of this. It was in the beta and would be the biggest fix for so many issues. I hope they add it back.
The madness engine is junk, surprised they’ve done as good as they can. Only hope we pups be ams3 go to a different gaming engine. I bought ams2 in 2020 for CART cars. I haven’t played since 1.5, that update ruined the group c and no fixes to this car. I’d get a lot of debris left on track, pits , you never knew what you’d get , wets, 2 tire, none lol
@@GM_Sanjit_Rameshyou couldn't. These sliders were non-functional due to ongoing AI calibration, which is also the reason why they have been removed - I guess they want any reports to be with default values there.

Exact same Ai behaviours in this video as I was experiencing in tin top cars. I hope that behaviour that’s been there for years finally gets ironed out.

I think it has to do with the new blue-flag logic for the AI. Previously AI did not slow down for blue flags on straights, but from what i recall they added it to now be possible. Looks like it needs a bit of tuning on AMS2's side to take into account if there are cars behind.
I was struggling to figure out who Frost is and it turns out Norberto Fontana ran some CART races. Who knew? I only watched all of these races back then. Never noticed him.
@mxracinguy5993 Actually, me neither, until this video. He apparently died suddenly from a heart attack. Any further speculation into the underlying possible causes I'll leave up to one's discretion.
I've been asking for the start/finish line to be moved back to the actual start/finish line. I hope it gets corrected, because the current invisible line is way down the track. Unfortunately AI even on the IMSA content is hit and miss per track. Hopefully with physics being in a good state they can focus more dev time in on dialing the AI in at every track so diff is more even across the board.

Isn't it a good idea if you are struggling with front lock ups to shift the brake balance rearwards a bit? It seems to help me, but maybe that's placebo 101.
Brake bias rearward could help but it might make the car difficult to slow down without spinning. In this scenario the issue was between the seat and the pedals, so some adjustments there were more appropriate
Is it true that Reiza plans to release a single player career mode for AMS2? That would be amazing. It's something what I am looking for in sim racing.
@ oh, didn’t know that. Good info and great video. I’ve been playing this weekend and I love the update. I did notice lots of racers not noticing you start a race with green tires, but cold brakes. I was racing at Spa and half the drivers piled up at turn 1 because the cars didn’t stop very well. Wry nice detail!
Love watching your channel. One of your problems is in racing, you should be either on the brake or on the throttle; it doesn't have to be full throttle of course. There should never be a time at anytime where you are coasting. If you are, then you're losing time there. In yesterdays video, I was watching your pedal use, and you do this a lot in slower more difficult corners. Hope that helps.
I've always had a love/hate relationship with this sim. I really want to be able to run full length races against the AI but the sim still has so many shortcomings and quirks and they just zap my enjoyment and constantly ruin the immersion for me. I find myself just hot lapping or doing short races but that quickly gets boring for me.
@@quietbatperson To me the sim feels like "a jack of all trades, master of none". Too many different series of cars but nothing 100% fleshed out. The most fun I have with the sim is picking a car/track combo, setting up a 60 minute practice session and hot lapping with other cars on track. Doing full length races or running a championship is where things start to fall apart. AI speed varies so much from track to track, you have to do run multiple "test races" at each circuit on the schedule to find the AI level for each track. The terrible AI pit strategy ruins longer races. Seems like such an easy thing to fix but It's been like that since the beginning. I would think a few lines of text and some 3rd grade level math should do it, but what do I know.
Oddly enough, not enough skidmarks. And I truly hate the disappearing skidmarks in any session. Sometimes I purposely do a doughnut somewhere go around once come back in the donuts gone that should not happen, at least within the confines of one session.
I’ll be installing the update tomorrow but not getting my hopes up. Group c I hope they fixed it. The neutered it on the 1.5 update. I saw the notes saying the did some tire fixes on the 962 🤷♂️
I purposely did not use the awesome skinpack/mods because i want to test the ai parameters as they are from Reiza, those mods were made pre 1.6 and may not have optimal settings
It’s so frustrating that AMS2 has amazing AI, detailed cars and tracks, good online play, nice graphics, but the physics model is still frustrating. Every big update I try it again and I’m always left feeling disappointed that the behaviour at the limit of grip, especially at the front axle, is unrealistic and unintuitive. I do hope one day it can handle like iRacing or Rfactor.
Have you ever driven a race car? I think AMS2 is actually more realistic that those you name. My experience irl is that cars are actually much more forgiving than I thought. What frustrates me is basically the set of quirks that are seen in this video: AI still do wacky things once in a while (in the track and strategically). They keep inproving patch to parch though, and to be fair other sims usually are even worse quirk-wise.
@ Yeah, I have driven a few race cars and a few road cars on track too. It’s specifically open wheel cars in AMS2 which diverge from my behavioural expectations the most. I’m willing to put up with the quirks of other titles because I care more about the physical accuracy of the cars. Even a direct drive wheel and high refresh rate monitor has not brought me around to loving or even tolerating AMS2 which is a real shame :(
Apologies if the wheel not moving on screen is jarring! I can barely see it from my PoV and I disabled the movement so the shift lights are always visible. I'll figure something out for the next one!

Oddly enough, not enough skidmarks. And I truly hate the disappearing skidmarks in any session. Sometimes I purposely do a doughnut somewhere go around once come back in the donuts gone that should not happen, at least within the confines of one session.
Disappearing skidmarks sounds great, I mean it would save on clothes washing at least!
AMS2 has now the best AI of all sims. I did a 90 minute race at Road Atlanta two days ago and it was challenging.
Still room for improvement. That brake check was totally uncalled for.
What shifter do you use?
Heusinkveld Magshift
Do the tire lock ups (feel and sound/audio) bother you or seem good?
They seem very arcade-like to me.
Frustrating - admire your patience soldiering on to the end - suspect you are right - AI to AI blue flag logic but failed to note you behind 😬
I’ll be installing the update tomorrow but not getting my hopes up. Group c I hope they fixed it. The neutered it on the 1.5 update. I saw the notes saying the did some tire fixes on the 962 🤷♂️
GP Laps is my comfort content.
Never knew AMS2 has its own radio chatter now. I wonder how it directly compares to Crew Chief.
I am using crew chief here
The sequential era was definitely the best, everything after is just knockoff f1 junk
Awesome vid. I noticed when you turn left or right the wheel in the car doesn’t turn it’s frozen. Is it something Reiza didn’t noticed? A bug maybe.
It's a deliberate setting you can choose
@ I didn’t know that. Thanks.
Very cool!!! Looking forward to your next video! 😘🍭

Gearing is too tall bro
Put the tire widget up so we can see the tires come up.
Petition to go back to ultra wide 🙏🙏

Great video, but it's a pity that nobody has done anything about all those fake driver names in the sim....
I purposely did not use the awesome skinpack/mods because i want to test the ai parameters as they are from Reiza, those mods were made pre 1.6 and may not have optimal settings
@@GPLapsNAMeS: Real Drivers for AMS2 solves all of those issues.
Even a direct drive wheel and high refresh rate monitor has not brought me around to loving or even tolerating AMS2 which is a real shame :(
I thought that car that was parked Mario ran into was Long beach but you’re probably right. He ripped the whole right side of his car off
